Standing waves are studied as solutions of a complex Ginzburg-Landau equation subjected to local and global time-delay feedback terms. The onset is described as an instability of the uniform oscillations with respect to spatially periodic perturbations. The solution of the standing wave pattern is given analytically and studied through simulations. © 2013 American Physical Society.

The nanoscale radius variation of a bottle microresonator with the required dispersion characteristics is determined theoretically. Experimentally, a microresonator with the footprint 0.08 mm2 exhibiting 20 ns/nm dispersion compensation of 100 ps pulses is demonstrated. © 2014 OSA.

A complex Ginzburg-Landau equation subjected to local and global time-delay feedback terms is considered. In particular, multiple oscillatory solutions and their properties are studied. We present novel results regarding the disappearance of limit cycle solutions, derive analytical criteria for frequency degeneration, amplitude degeneration, frequency extrema. Furthermore, we discuss the influence of the phase shift parameter and show analytically that the stabilization of the steady state and the decay of all oscillations (amplitude death) cannot happen for global feedback only. Finally, we explain the onset of traveling wave patterns close to the regime of amplitude death.

For the first time for the model of real-world forward-pumped fibre Raman amplifier with the randomly varying birefringence, the stochastic calculations have been done numerically based on the Kloeden-Platen-Schurz algorithm. The results obtained for the averaged gain and gain fluctuations as a function of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) parameter agree quantitatively with the results of previously developed analytical model. Simultaneously, the direct numerical simulations demonstrate an increased stochastisation (maximum in averaged gain variation) within the region of the polarization mode dispersion parameter of 0.1÷0.3 ps/km1/2. The results give an insight into margins of applicability of a generic multi-scale technique widely used to derive coupled Manakov equations and allow generalizing analytic model with accounting for pump depletion, group-delay dispersion and Kerr-nonlinearity that is of great interest for development of the high-transmission-rates optical networks.

We consider the suppression of spatiotemporal chaos in the complex GinzburgLandau equation by a combined global and local time-delay feedback. Feedback terms are implemented as a control scheme, i.e., they are proportional to the difference between the time-delayed state of the system and its current state. We perform a linear stability analysis of uniform oscillations with respect to space-dependent perturbations and compare with numerical simulations. Similarly, for the fixed-point solution that corresponds to amplitude death in the spatially extended system, a linear stability analysis with respect to space-dependent perturbations is performed and complemented by numerical simulations. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. This paper presents a new tuning methodology of the main controller of an internal model control structure for n×n stable multivariable processes with multiple time delays based on the centralized inverted decoupling structure. Independently of the system size, very simple general expressions for the controller elements are obtained. The realizability conditions are provided and the specification of the closed-loop requirements is explained. A diagonal filter is added to the proposed control structure in order to improve the disturbance rejection without modifying the nominal set-point response. The effectiveness of the method is illustrated through different simulation examples in comparison with other works.
H-infinity control design for time-delay linear systems: a rational transfer function based approach
Resumo:
The aim of this paper is to present new results on H-infinity control synthesis for time-delay linear systems. We extend the use of a finite order LTI system, called comparison system to H-infinity analysis and design. Differently from what can be viewed as a common feature of other control design methods available in the literature to date, the one presented here treats time-delay systems control design with classical numeric routines based on Riccati equations arisen from H-infinity theory. The proposed algorithm is simple, efficient and easy to implement. Some examples illustrating state and output feedback design are solved and discussed in order to put in evidence the most relevant characteristic of the theoretical results. Moreover, a practical application involving a 3-DOF networked control system is presented.
