This paper analyzes the profile of Spanish young innovative companies (YICs) and the determinants of innovation and imitation strategies. The results for an extensive sample of 2,221 Spanish firms studied during the period 2004–2010 show that YICs are found in all sectors, although they are more concentrated in high-tech sectors and, in particular, in knowledge-intensive services (KIS). Three of every four YICs are involved in KIS. Our results highlight that financial and knowledge barriers have much impact on the capacity of young, small firms to innovate and to become YICs, whereas market barriers are not obstacles to becoming a YIC. Public funding, in particular from the European Union, makes it easier for a new firm to become a YIC. In addition, YICs are more likely to innovate than mature firms, although they are more susceptible to sectoral and territorial factors. YICs make more dynamic use of innovation and imitation strategies when they operate in high-tech industries and are based in science parks located close to universities. Durante años, muchas instituciones y universidades han comenzado a experimentar con los dispositivos móviles en el aprendizaje a través de diferentes proyectos como parte de su metodología de aprendizaje. La experiencia adquirida con el empleo de estrategias y enfoques en la educación a distancia puede facilitar la conceptualización del aprendizaje móvil, así como el desarrollo de aplicaciones para este nuevo medio de aprendizaje. Los dispositivos móviles abren además nuevos caminos para el aprendizaje y una nueva generación para la educación a distancia, y los investigadores conocen estos nuevos caminos para el aprendizaje y oportunidades de llegar a un público más amplio. Este trabajo, muestra los resultados de un grupo de discusión que se llevó a cabo entre 20 estudiantes de licenciatura con el fin de explorar las percepciones, y en general todo aquello que afecta a la interpretación subjetiva de los individuos y su interacción con un fenómeno social como el aprendizaje móvil.

This study compared the outcome of total knee replacement (TKR) in adult patients with fixed- and mobile-bearing prostheses during the first post-operative year and at five years' follow-up, using gait parameters as a new objective measure. This double-blind randomised controlled clinical trial included 55 patients with mobile-bearing (n = 26) and fixed-bearing (n = 29) prostheses of the same design, evaluated pre-operatively and post-operatively at six weeks, three months, six months, one year and five years. Each participant undertook two walking trials of 30 m and completed the EuroQol questionnaire, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis index, Knee Society score, and visual analogue scales for pain and stiffness. Gait analysis was performed using five miniature angular rate sensors mounted on the trunk (sacrum), each thigh and calf. The study population was divided into two groups according to age (≤ 70 years versus > 70 years). Improvements in most gait parameters at five years' follow-up were greater for fixed-bearing TKRs in older patients (> 70 years), and greater for mobile-bearing TKRs in younger patients (≤ 70 years). These findings should be confirmed by an extended age controlled study, as the ideal choice of prosthesis might depend on the age of the patient at the time of surgery.

El proyecto de rehabilitación del "Parque Recreativo Cariari" se enmarca en el proyecto más amplio "Proyecto Limón Ciudad Puerto". Se ubica en la zona más desfavorecida de Costa Rica, a nivel social y de infraestructuras. Nuestra labor en el proyecto de rehabilitación, se centra en la preparación de la propuesta de actividades de educación ambiental, aprovechando los recursos biológicos y geológicos del parque, así como las infraestructuras que incluirá una vez rehabilitado. Para la realización del proyecto fue necesaria una gran revisión bibliográfica, una serie de encuestas y reuniones con escuelas, profesores y la responsable del Ministerio de Educación Pública en la región. También se contactó con personal especializado con materias claves para los talleres. Además se acordó con universidades nacionales la realización de prácticas de sus estudiantes de los sectores de turismo ecológico y administración. Así, el resultado, son los 18 talleres, y la preparación de un hormiguero y un mariposario abierto, que se implementarán durante la rehabilitación del parque. De llevarse a cabo correctamente, se espera que transmitan a sus participantes la importancia ambiental de la zona, implicándolos en la conservación de esta. A nivel general, se espera que el parque sea vía de escape y ayude al progreso social y mejora de la calidad de vida de Limón.

Many loan repayment and incentive programs are available to encourage college students and graduates to enter into and continue to work in designated high-need careers. More and more Iowans are reaping the rewards of these federal, state and private programs that help reduce student loan debt while allowing them to pursue their career goals. Some programs make payments directly to the recipient’s student loan servicer to reduce the balance owed (loan repayment), while others may provide the option of an income stipend or bonus for eligible recipients who meet specified employment and other criteria. This guide provides information on many of the federal and state loan repayment and incentive programs currently available.

Paying for college doesn’t have to be financially overwhelming. There are several types of aid, including federal, state and institutional grants; scholarships from numerous sources; college savings plans; student and parent loans; and student employment options available to help you pay for college. In fact, most students attending Iowa colleges and universities receive some form of financial assistance. To be considered for most financial aid programs, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applying for admission is not the same as applying for financial aid - you need to do both. To receive financial aid, it is necessary to file a completed FAFSA and submit an admissions application to the colleges and universities that interest you most. [spa] Este texto forma parte de un proyecto de investigación Los efectos de los cambios sociales en el trabajo y la vida profesional de los docentes universitarios, parcialmente financiado por el Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (SEJ2006-01876), en el que nos planteamos explorar los cambios los ámbitos de la legislación, laorganización institucional, la investigación, la gestión y la docencia en los últimos treinta años. El principal objetivo del estudio era profundizar en nuestra comprensión sobre el impacto del cambio económico, social, cultural, tecnológico y laboral que están experimentando las universidades españolas en la vida y la identidad profesional del personal docente e investigador, teniendo en cuenta el contexto nacional y europeo. Estapublicación recoge la 24 historias de vida profesional realizas con o sobre otros tantos docentes universitarios. Sus relatos analizados y contextualizados, significan una contribución significativa al conocimiento basado en la investigación sobre el saber profesional y la experiencia laboral en las universidades españolas, y en consecuencia, a nuestra comprensión sobre cómo los académicos se están enfrentando con los cambios actuales.
