In the present work we performed molecular cytogenetic studies in two different populations of Astyanax bockmanni from streams of Botucatu, SP: one from Capivara river, on Tietê river basin and one from Água da Madalena river, on Paranapanema river basin. The results showed that the population of Astyanax bockmanni from Capivara river have a diploid number of 50 chromosomes, with karyotype consisting of 8 methacentric, 14 submethacentric, 12 subtelocentric and 16 acrocentric, while the individuals of the population from Água da Madalena river have 50 diploid chromosomes but with karyotype organized in 8 metacentric, 14 submetacentric, 16 subtelocentric and 12 acrocentric. Also, the rDNA 18s sequences are widely dispersed throughout the genome of two populations, with intra and interindividual variations. On the other hand, the sequences for rDNA 5S and Histone H1 remained chromosomally conserved in these two samples and sites located in pairs 2 and 19 (rDNA 5S) and the pairs 2 and 15 (Histone H1). The low dispersion of structural genes and a functional dynamic independence between sequences of rDNA 5S and rDNA 18S may be related to the process of karyotype maintenance and differentiation in these populations of Astyanax bockmanni

The present study aimed to analyze how develops the reverse logistics process applied in electrical and electronic products. Such analysis was obtained through literature search and with the completion of a case study, which was developed at the company's Oxil Reverse Manufacture, showing the advantages obtained as well as the difficulties faced in the implementation of the reverse logistics process. The development of this research shows its importance in so far as the residues generated by electronic components, which are one of the most harmful to the environment and harmful to human health, highly possessing heavy metals and non-biodegradable materials in their composition. In this way, the components collected from this activity, should be properly recycled, reused and finally housed in suitable location, these steps that are part of the reverse logistics process

In this assignment, will be assessed the conditions of operation for the final disposal of household solid waste landfill in the city of Cachoeira Paulista-SP. The theme chosen for research is of great social importance therefore is directly related to the well-being of the people, sustainable development, environmental protection and public health. Everyone should be aware of the problems related to improper final disposal of solid waste of any kind. The objectives of the study were: analyse the conditions of operation of the landfill; verify the treatment technology of percolating liquids (slurry) generated in the landfill; examine whether the landfill obey the rules; which cities in the region depend on the disposal system, verify that there are flaws in the final destination of solid waste in the municipality and in the cities of the region. The research is primarily a bibliographic review, obtained by querying the database and virtual libraries. Technical visits were also held at the study site, to check spot the methodology employed in the operation of landfill This work concluded that for the period under study, the landfill was as a landfill site, therefore, in accordance with the rules of operation

The need to use waste from wood processing industry grows due to environmental demands imposed by laws, so like the need to introduce more competitive products in the market (it means better quality and acceptable cost) who must submit by the rational use of raw material, usually turning waste to sub products, what adds higher value for that. To this research, specific case from Ribon Company, located on Camaçari, Bahia-Brazil, has been studied. It is a treated wood producer. Bulk of monthly wood logs there is 70 m3. Its yield is 71,43%, where bulk of generated waste is monthly 20m3. As an exploitation way from generated waste, it has been suggested some options like: erosion protection to specific areas, a wildlife shelter as an henhouse etc, recreational articles, coal, linings, treadmills. However this research will give focus to the furniture design made of waste. As a conclusion, there is very much need to assign new utilizations to that sub used materials, since there is significant amount to increase company’s productive yield

The current problematic of the construction and demolition (C&D) waste faced for the Brazilian cities, is one of the main degradation factors of the environment, over all about the promise of the urban ambient quality. This scenery must mainly to the unsustainable management adopted by the great majority of the Brazilian cities. Therefore, this work aims at to offer subsidies for medium cities, having as study object the city of Rio Claro-SP, (Brazil), in the elaboration of plans and integrated programs of sustainable management of the construction and demolition waste, in accordance with CONAMA Resolution nº 307/2002, that’s set up a sustainable management system of C&D waste. In this direction, the diagnosis of the management was elaborated for the city of Rio Claro, (generation, collects, transport and disposal) and the public administration of the construction and demolition waste, as well as of the study of the related aspects with C&D waste recycling plant. Later, was suggested a plan of improvements for the public manager of C&D waste: areas of temporary disposal to facility the appropriating destination, appropriated areas of final disposal, incentives to the recycling of C&D waste, new legislations, education and orientation programs and adequacy the agents of C&D waste management (generating, transporting, addressee and public manager), directing for an environmental, economic and social sustainability.

Due to the large economic development associated with the growing consumerist lifestyle of our capitalist society, the problem of uncontrolled solid waste generation worsens, which one is considered to be one of the main responsible factors for environmental degradation. As a case study and in order to solve the problem of large generation of municipal solid waste, this work aims to study the “plano diretor” of Rio Claro city, São Paulo. The “plano diretor” is a municipal law that provides guidelines for the administration of the city, which include guidelines for the management of solid waste generated in the city. The guidelines required in order to write the “plano diretor” are provided by the national law “estatuto da cidade”, providing information for the planning and development of the cities, as well as the management of the urban environment. However, only the “estatuto da cidade” does not provide enough instructions for creating management plans in order to solve the many problems from the urban environment. Thus, studies have been done about urban and environmental management, to understand how municipal management plans should be structured. As a form of seeking information that can complement the “plano diretor” to the creation of policies for managing solid waste of the city, the “Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos”(PNRS) emerges in 2010 as a document which provides principles, objectives and guidelines to create plans for Solid Waste Management at the national, state, regional and municipal levels. Therefore, it was possible to make a joint analysis of the “plano diretor” of Rio Claro with the PNRS to identify what is already done within the municipality about the solid waste management, and identify which aspects are most significant in the municipal solid waste management that the national policy provides. Atualmente o encalhe de filhotes órfãos representa uma das principais ameaças à conservação do peixe-boi marinho (Trichechus manatus manatus) no litoral nordeste do Brasil. O Projeto Peixe-boi resgata os filhotes encalhados, reabilita em cativeiro e reintroduz estes animais em áreas de ocorrência histórica e em locais onde a população está em declínio. Estudos sobre comportamento animal fornecem uma importante ferramenta para avaliação dos Programas de Reintrodução. Os trabalhos existentes sobre comportamento de peixes-boi marinhos em vida livre sujeitos a interações antrópicas restringem-se a animais nativos na Flórida. No Brasil, há estudos etológicos apenas com espécimes em cativeiro ou recinto em ambiente natural. O objetivo do trabalho foi verificar possíveis alterações comportamentais de peixes-boi reintroduzidos, ou seja, que passaram parte da vida em cativeiro e foram soltos em ambiente natural, em função de interações antrópicas. No período de Fevereiro a Julho de 2010, com o auxílio da radio-telemetria, uma fêmea e dois machos (8 anos de idade) foram observados diariamente, em períodos alternados, com a metodologia do “animal focal”. Para o monitoramento, utilizou-se bicicleta, caiaque e, em locais de difícil acesso, o mesmo foi feito a pé. Totalizou-se 114 horas de observação para Arani e 167 horas para Potiguar. As observações da fêmea Aira ficaram comprometidas em função da perda do equipamento de radio-telemetria. A análise dos dados mostrou uma alta freqüência de comportamentos de interação (mais de 50%) em relação aos demais comportamentos de função vital para os dois machos. Dessas interações, as com animais de mesma espécie e objeto atingiram elevadas freqüências. Verificou-se ainda que a categoria afiliativa foi predominante nas interações entre peixes-bois... With the growing world energy demand mainly from developing countries like Brazil, Russia, India and China, the search for efficient sources of energy becomes a challenge for the coming years. Among the most widely used alternative sources, biomass is the one that grows in a more pronounced way. This study will assess the real possibility of having it as a heat source in an Organic Rankine Cycle, which employ heat transfer fluids as working fluids instead of water. From a regional data collection in agricultural production and their potential rice production and the resulting husk was defined as more appropriate. The availability of husks together with an amount of eucalyptus wood, provided by a company in the region on a monthly basis, were analyzed, and the low participation of the wood was discarded by the thermal contribution of little significance. Based on this, it was established the calorific value of fuel for thermodynamic calculations and the cycle to be used. It was then carried out the choice of working fluid from the literature and their availability in the library of software used for the simulations, the Engineering Equation Solver - ESS. The fluid most appropriate for the burning of biomass, Octamethyltrisiloxane (OMTS), was not included in the software and so the R227ea and R134a were selected. After the initial parameters modeling definition, as condensing temperature, efficiency and live steam conditions, the simulations were performed, and only the R227ea remained within the feasible thermodynamic and technological ranges. With this fluid the turbine power output was 265.7 [kW] for a scenario of 24 hours/day burning, 800.3 [kW] to biomass burning for 8 hours/day and 2134 [kW] for burning only 3 hours/day. With the constant increase in the municipal solid waste (MSW) generation, mainly due to the high consumption patterns, it becomes difficult to manage correctly the solid waste and thus minimize their impact on the environment. One of the most problems of the large amount of waste generated is the liquid originated from physical, chemical and biological decomposition process of organic wastes, with dark color and bad smell, called leachate: it can reach the soil, polluting the groundwater and the surface water. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the process of coagulation/flocculation/sedimentation applied in the treatment of the leachate generated in the not controlled landfill of Presidente Prudente, Sao Paulo... In this paper we investigate the temperature variation of the mass of waste along the depth in a household waste landfill of Rio Claro - SP, São Paulo, having a climate characterized as Tropical Altitude. In this research, there were two holes in two distinct points of the landfill, with different depths and characteristics in order to fix several thermal sensors - RTDs - to record the temperature at predetermined depths. Overall, the results show the influence of temperature at depths of up to 3.0 meters (from the surface) and that it varies in a manner to stabilize at depths above 5.0 meters. The highest temperature obtained was approximately 37.5 ° C for a time of waste disposal of 7 to 10 years. The results showed the presence of organic matter (substrate) which resulted in elevated temperature resulting from biological activity

To verify the levels of concentration of some heavy metals in fishes from Sorocaba river (São Paulo, Brazil) and evaluate if this contamination offers health risks to the fishermen, 63 samples of fishes collected from four points along the river were studied for cadmium, lead, chromium, nickel and mercury, with emphasis in this last, since it is the most toxic and most probable as a fish contaminant. Analyzing muscle samples by cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry it was shown that the fishes are not contaminated. None of the five metals studied were present in prohibitive level and the fishes could be judged secure for human consume. It was also analyzed data from four years of cadmium, lead, chromium, nickel and mercury monitoring made by CETESB, from 1997 to 2000, in water from the main rivers of the State of São Paulo. The study pointed out that the majority of the monitored rivers still present contamination by those metals in a level that requires an improvement of the pollution control actions.
