Normalisation informatique et marchés de services : le cas du XML

Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a generic computing language that provides an outstanding case study of commodification of service standards. The development of this language in the late 1990s marked a shift in computer science as its extensibility let store and share any kind of data. Many office suites software rely on it. The chapter highlights how the largest multinational firms pay special attention to gain a recognised international standard for such a major technological innovation. It argues that standardisation processes affects market structures and can lead to market capture. By examining how a strategic use of standardisation arenas can generate profits, it shows that Microsoft succeeded in making its own technical solution a recognised ISO standard in 2008, while the same arena already adopted two years earlier the open source standard set by IBM and Sun Microsystems. Yet XML standardisation also helped to establish a distinct model of information technology services at the expense of Microsoft monopoly on proprietary software

Broadening the horizon--level 2.5 of the HUPO-PSI format for molecular interactions.

BACKGROUND: Molecular interaction Information is a key resource in modern biomedical research. Publicly available data have previously been provided in a broad array of diverse formats, making access to this very difficult. The publication and wide implementation of the Human Proteome Organisation Proteomics Standards Initiative Molecular Interactions (HUPO PSI-MI) format in 2004 was a major step towards the establishment of a single, unified format by which molecular interactions should be presented, but focused purely on protein-protein interactions. RESULTS: The HUPO-PSI has further developed the PSI-MI XML schema to enable the description of interactions between a wider range of molecular types, for example nucleic acids, chemical entities, and molecular complexes. Extensive details about each supported molecular interaction can now be captured, including the biological role of each molecule within that interaction, detailed description of interacting domains, and the kinetic parameters of the interaction. The format is supported by data management and analysis tools and has been adopted by major interaction data providers. Additionally, a simpler, tab-delimited format MITAB2.5 has been developed for the benefit of users who require only minimal information in an easy to access configuration. CONCLUSION: The PSI-MI XML2.5 and MITAB2.5 formats have been jointly developed by interaction data producers and providers from both the academic and commercial sector, and are already widely implemented and well supported by an active development community. PSI-MI XML2.5 enables the description of highly detailed molecular interaction data and facilitates data exchange between databases and users without loss of information. MITAB2.5 is a simpler format appropriate for fast Perl parsing or loading into Microsoft Excel.

Electronic Construction Collaboration System – Phase III, December 2011

This phase of the electronic collaboration project involved two major efforts: 1) implementation of AEC Sync (formerly known as Attolist), a web-based project management system (WPMS), on the Broadway Viaduct Bridge Project and the Iowa Falls Arch Bridge Project and 2) development of a web-based project management system for bridge and highway construction projects with less than $10 million in contract value. During the previous phase of this project (fiscal year 2010), the research team helped with the implementation process for AEC Sync and collected feedback from the Broadway Viaduct project team members before the start of the project. During the 2011 fiscal year, the research team collected the post-project surveys from the Broadway Viaduct project members and compared them to the pre-project survey results. The results of the AEC Sync implementation on the Broadway project were positive. The project members were satisfied with the performance of the AEC Sync software and how it facilitated document management and its transparency. In addition, the research team distributed, collected, and analyzed the pre-project surveys for the Iowa Falls Arch Bridge Project. The implementation of AEC Sync for the Iowa Falls Arch Bridge Project appears to also be positive, based on the pre-project surveys. The fourth phase of this electronic collaboration project involves the identification and implementation of a WPMS solution for smaller bridge and highway projects. The workflow for the shop drawing approval process for sign truss projects was documented and used to identify possible WPMS solutions. After testing and evaluating several WPMS solutions, Microsoft SharePoint Foundation’s site pages were selected to be pilot-tested on sign truss projects. Due to the limitation on the SharePoint license that the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has, a file transfer protocol (FTP) site will be developed alongside this site to allow contractors to upload shop drawings to the Iowa DOT. The SharePoint site pages are expected to be ready for implementation during the 2012 calendar year.

Prevalencia de caries y estado periodontal de los niÑos y adolescentes de Navarra (2002)

Introducción (fundamento y objetivo): En Navarra se realiza un seguimiento epidemiológico de la caries dental y su tratamiento desde el año 1987, antes de la puesta en marcha del programa PADI en 1991. El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido conocer el estado de salud dental y periodontal de la población infantil y adolescente de Navarra en 2002. Método: Encuesta epidemiológica sobre una muestra al azar de escolares de 1º, 3º y 6º de Enseñanza Primaria y 2º ESO, de 1566 sujetos. Los exámenes clínicos fueron realizados por examinadores calibrados (Kappa 0,93) en los colegios utilizando equipamiento portátil. El estudio estadístico se realizó con una base de datos Microsoft Acces, con el paquete estadístico SPSS versión 10 para Windows. Resultados: La prevalencia de caries en dentición temporal a los 6 años fue de 35,4% (cod 1,28) y en permanente a los 14 años 50,7%. La media CAOD en los cuatro grupos etarios fue 0,04; 0,27; 0,75 y 1,36 respectivamente. Los índices de restauración (IR) 16,7%, 48,1%, 77,3% y 78,7%. El estado periodontal, sanos (6 sext. ) 9,1%, sangrado 86,3%, cálculo 17,2%. Conclusión: La prevalencia de caries sigue siendo alta pero la media de dientes afectados baja; la tendencia respecto de 1997 es a aumentar en dentición temporal y a disminuir en permanente.

Sistema de gestión de un centro escolar

En este proyecto se abordará la implantación de un sistema informático que solicita un centro escolar. Inicialmente, este sistema no abarcará todo el proceso de gestión de la unidad educativa, sino que debe centrarse en optimizar la parte correspondiente al proceso de negocio que maneja el intercambio de información entre profesores y padres de alumnos.

Estimació de la massa d'un porc a partir de l'anàlisi d'imatges digitals

El programa permet estimar la massa d'un porc a partir de sis longituds (la llargada i l'amplada en cinc posicions corresponents a espatlla, abdomen i malucs) obtingudes en una imatge digital de l'animal amb la càmera situada en posició zenital. S'adjunten dos conjunts de dades de referència que permeten obtenir l'equació que relaciona la massa del porc amb el seu volum, considerat com una esfera o un cilindre. Manual d'us: Per a usar el programa només cal indicar en la primera secció de codi el nom del fitxer de dades que es vol importar per generar el model pes / volum i en la darrera de totes, la llargada i les cinc amplades (en cm) del porc per al qual es vol estimar la massa.

Anàlisi i disseny d'una aplicació web per a un banc del temps

Els bancs del temps són eines que permeten l'intercanvi de serveis entre persones d'una mateixa localització geogràfica. El tret més característic és que aquest serveis s'intercanvien sense utilitzar diners, agafant el temps propi d'una persona com a moneda de canvi. Es poden intercanviar tot tipus de serveis: passejar gossos, fer companyia a persones majors, classes de repàs, assessorament informàtic, etc. Aquest projecte proposa la creació d'un portal web que permeti i gestioni el funcionament d'un banc del temps, tant a nivell d'usuari com a nivell d'administració.

Desarrollo de una aplicación informática para la gestión de actividades docentes

Este proyecto consiste en el desarrollo de una aplicación informática que permite gestionar de forma automatizada y consistente los datos requeridos para la actividad docente de un profesor universitario. La aplicación permite gestionar: plan docente, asignaturas, horario docente, calendario de exámenes y proyectos final de carrera. Todas estas opciones tienen las funciones de, agregar, buscar, modificar y eliminar datos. Además tiene otras opciones como calendario docente y webs, cuya finalidad será consultar, de forma directa, páginas web de interés docente. Finalmente, la opción material docente tendrá como finalidad, crear, modificar y eliminar ficheros de diferente formato (word, excel, powerpoint, pdf) asociados a las asignaturas registradas en la aplicación. La aplicación se ha implementado en el sistema operativo Windows en el lenguaje de programación Java. Los datos utilizados se almacenan en la base de datos MySql Workbench. Para las validaciones de entrada de datos se ha utilizado JavaScript y JQuery. El diseño de la interfaz se ha llevado a cabo con Java Server Pages, Html, Css y framework Struts.

Electronic Construction Collaboration System – Final Phase, SPR RB02-008, 2014

This phase of the research project involved two major efforts: (1) Complete the implementation of AEC-Sync (formerly known as Attolist) on the Iowa Falls Arch Bridge project and (2) develop a web-based project management system (WPMS) for projects under $10 million. For the first major effort, AEC-Sync was provided for the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) in a software as a service agreement, allowing the Iowa DOT to rapidly implement the solution with modest effort. During the 2010 fiscal year, the research team was able to help with the implementation process for the solution. The research team also collected feedback from the Broadway Viaduct project team members before the start of the project and implementation of the solution. For the 2011 fiscal year, the research team collected the post-project surveys from the Broadway Viaduct project members and compared them to the pre-project survey results. The result of the AEC-Sync implementation in the Broadway Viaduct project was a positive one. The project members were satisfied with the performance of AEC-Sync and how it facilitated document management and transparency. In addition, the research team distributed, collected, and analyzed the pre-project surveys for the Iowa Falls Arch Bridge project. During the 2012 fiscal year, the research team analyzed the post-project surveys for the Iowa Falls Arch Bridge project AEC-Sync implementation and found a positive outcome when compared to the pre-project surveys. The second major effort for this project involved the identification and implementation of a WPMS solution for smaller bridge and highway projects. During the 2011 fiscal year, Microsoft SharePoint was selected to be implemented on these smaller highway projects. In this year, workflows for the shop/working drawings for the smaller highway projects specified in Section 1105 of the Iowa DOT Specifications were developed. These workflows will serve as the guide for the development of the SharePoint pages. In order to implement the Microsoft SharePoint pages, the effort of an integrated team proved to be vital because it brought together the expertise required from researchers, programmers, and webpage developers to develop the SharePoint pages.
