Report on Saint Martin's Island ecosystem boundary, Bangladesh: final report

This report seeks to strengthen national capacity on managing Marine Protected Area (MPAs) in Bangladesh. St Martin's Island was used as the pilot ecosystem boundary delineation.

A new species of Henneguya (Myxosporida, Protozoa) from West African catfish, Clarias lazera Val., with a review of the genus Henneguya Thelohan, 1892

A new species of myxosporida, Henneguya clariae, is described from the gills of Claria’s Iazera caught from various waters in Nigeria. Pathogenic effects in the destruction of the components of the branchial system are about 25% of Clarias lazera. A review of the genera Henneguya myxobilatus, and Neohenneguya is made and these were synonymised, with some reservations in the case of to Henneguya. A checklist of the genus Henneguya is given.

Gas transport property of homo- and copolyimides from isomeric thiaphthalic dianhydride and oxydianiline

Gas transport properties of home- and copolyimides prepared from 3,3',4,4'- and 2,2',3,3'-thiaphthalic dianhydride (p-TDPA and m-TDPA, respectively) with 4,4-oxydianiline (ODA) were investigated. The fractional free volume of m-TDPA-ODA is larger than that of p-TDPA-ODA, and the chain segmental mobility of the former is lower than that of the latter. The permeability coefficients of m-TDPA-ODA to H-2, CO2, and O-2 are more increased by 48, 69 and 75%, at 30 degrees C and 10 atm, respectively, than those of p-TDPA-ODA; but the permselectivities of m-TDPA-ODA for H-2, CO2, and O-2 toward N-2 are more decreased by 33, 77, and 26%, respectively, than those of p-TDPA-ODA. The permeability coefficients and the diffusion coefficients of the copolyimides can be described by the following equations: log P = Phi(p) log P-p + Phi(m), log P-m and log D-a = D-a = Phi(p) log(D-alpha)(p) + Phi(m) log(D-a)(m), respectively. The variation of the permselectivity is controlled predominantly by diffusivity selectivity. These observations are interpreted in terms of variations in the fractional free volume of polyimides. The Deve­lop­ment of Leibniz’s Con­si­de­ra­tions in John Yench’s Pro­ject

The purpose of the article is to present John Yench’s a priori language as a continuation of Leibniz’s idea. Before I proceed to show the project of the Inter-Disciplinary International Reference Language, I would like to discuss the development of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz’s view on artificial languages. I will try to show the evolution of Leibniz’s universal language: from its ideal conception to a tool which formalizes the whole of human knowledge. Also, I will show Leibniz’s influence on further ideas of artificial language. I will compare his projects with Yench’s language – Idirl. An analysis of Idirl’s main assumptions will be useful to show the degree of continuation of Leibniz’s ideas in the a priori language of John Yench.

The Offstage of Democracy: The Problem of Social Dialogue in John Dewey’s and Walter Lippmann’s Writings

The aim of this article is to present and discuss John Dewey’s and Walter Lippmann’s views on the problem of communication in a democratic society, particularly their views on the question of a role of communication in forming social processes. First part of the paper outlines the framework of this problem and its meaning to the question of possibility of democracy. Part two is concerned with anthropological and socio-political considerations: I discuss the Deweyan and the Lippmannian understanding of individual, society, intelligence and democracy. In part three I examine in detail the problem of communication, with special attention given to the questions of the role of communication in forming social processes, the foundations and conditions of communication, the debaters, and a subject matter of a debate as well as the questions of who and what forms this debate and whether we can form it altogether.
