Objective: To present a model for research and training in multivisceral transplantation in pigs. Methods: Eight Large White pigs (four donors and four recipients) were operated. The multivisceral transplant with stomach, duodenum, pancreas, liver and intestine was performed similarly to transplantation in humans with a few differences, described below. Anastomoses were performed as follows: end-to-end from the supra-hepatic vena cava of the graft to the recipient juxta diaphragmatic vena cava; end-to-end from the infra-hepatic vena cava of the graft to the inferior (suprarenal) vena cava of the recipient; and endto-side patch of the aorta of the graft to the infrarenal aorta of the recipient plus digestive reconstruction. Results: The performance of the multivisceral transplantion was possible in all four animals. Reperfusions of the multivisceral graft led to a severe ischemia-reperfusion syndrome, despite flushing of the graft. The animals presented with hypotension and the need for high doses of vasoactive drugs, and all of them were sacrificed after discontinuing these drugs. Conclusion: Some alternatives to minimize the ischemia-reperfusion syndrome, such as the use of another vasoactive drug, use of a third pig merely for blood transfusion, presence of an anesthesia team in the operating room, and reduction of the graft, will be the next steps to enable experimental studies.

This study aims to evaluate the corrosion resistance of Ti-30Ta alloy when subjected to different strain rates. Samples of the alloy Ti-30Ta were obtained from the melting of pure elements in the arc furnace in inert atmosphere (argon gas). Then, the samples were subjected to a thermal treatment and to cold worked to obtain bars. After forging, the samples were machined in accordance with ASTME9-09 standard for carried out compression tests. To microstructural characterization, samples were sectioned longitudinal and transversally and embedded in resin. After, the wet sanding and polishing were performed, followed by a chemical attack, in order to study the microstructure under an optical microscope. Microhardness was measured on the samples that were subjected to microstructural characterization by using microhardness tester. Phases were evaluated by x-rays diffraction. Corrosion tests were carried out to evaluate the influence of deformation on the corrosion resistance. Results show that microstructure was not influenced by deformation

The proposed work is located in education field in exhibition spaces of art and seeks to analyze a process of formation as a mediator focusing on the public's relationship with art, taking into account the fact that often the general public does not dominate the codes of this area, being incumbent upon mediator introduce them. One of the main points to be analyzed is the impact that can be generated by the contact of the visitor with the mediator in the exhibition space, considering a spectrum of possibilities, where at one end focuses the belonging and in the other the symbolic violence. In this direction this research aims to build a relationship of emancipation and autonomy of both, the educator and the visitor. It is known that the concept of public is a generalization, therefore, the analysis of the mediation process, are having as support the experiences lived by the mediator, especially, in the relationship with the lay public. The locations of the experiences lived, were the SESC Pompéia and the Pavilion of the Bienal of São Paulo, different places, but both with the potential to generate reception and / or distances, shot through space (architecture), bodies, codes, accesses, works of art, repertoires, expographic and especially through the mobilization of educator front of all these issues. The cutting of the research covers the experience of the educator (as an intern and professional) in six exhibitions, in these two spaces, between the years 2010 to 2015.

A proposta deste trabalho consistiu em compartilhar um serviço de pronto-atendimento psicológico às pessoas que vivenciam uma perda significativa, seja por morte de uma pessoa de vinculação importante, como a de um familiar ou amigo, óbito de um paciente ou perda da saúde quando do adoecimento e/ou hospitalização, entre outros, e discutiu os resultados de tal serviço. O enfoque metodológico baseou-se na análise do processo de estruturação e implantação de um serviço dessa especificidade em um hospital público universitário, onde os autores desenvolvem a assistência aos que vivenciam esses processos de perda. Os resultados apontaram a importância da oferta desse serviço, que foi demandado tanto por aqueles que vivenciam o luto pela perda de saúde ou pela morte de uma pessoa significativa como por profissionais de educação e saúde.

In this action research study of my classroom of 7th and 8th grade mathematics, I investigated how math anxiety relates to the student work and behavior in the classroom, and how this can affect the student’s overall relationship to mathematics. I discovered that the harder the work, the more math anxiety was displayed. The harder I pushed students to think more deeply, the fewer responses to my questions I received. I noticed difference in the students’ body language and overall behavior. As a result of this research, I plan to help my students try to overcome the feeling of math anxiety and try to teach them different methods to use when they are feeling anxious. The methods that I plan to use hopefully will help the students when they are feeling anxiety and help the students to understand the math being taught and how to apply the math they learn to everyday life.

Thyroid hormone action is required for normal cone opsin expression during mouse retinal development

PURPOSE. The expression of S- and M-opsins in the murine retina is altered in different transgenic mouse models with mutations in the thyroid hormone receptor (TR)-beta gene, demonstrating an important role of thyroid hormone (TH) in retinal development. METHODS. The spatial expression of S- and M-opsin was compared in congenital hypothyroidism and in two different TR mutant mouse models. One mouse model contains a ligand-binding mutation that abolishes TH binding and results in constitutive binding to nuclear corepressors. The second model contains a mutation that blocks binding of coactivators to the AF-2 domain without affecting TH binding. RESULTS. Hypothyroid newborn mice showed an increase in S- opsin expression that was completely independent of the genotype. Concerning M-opsin expression, hypothyroidism caused a significant decrease (P < 0.01) only in wild-type animals. When TR beta 1 and -beta 2 were T3-binding defective, the pattern of opsin expression was similar to TR beta ablation, showing increased S- opsin expression in the dorsal retina and no expression of M-opsin in the entire retina. In an unexpected finding, immunostaining for both opsins was detected when both subtypes of TR beta were mutated in the helix 12 AF-2 domain. CONCLUSIONS. The results show, for the first time, that the expression of S- and M-opsin is dependent on normal thyroid hormone levels during development.

Under homeostatic conditions, a proportion of senescent CXCR4(hi) neutrophils home from the circulation back to the bone marrow, where they are phagocytosed by bone marrow macrophages. In this study, we have identified an unexpected role for the anti-inflammatory molecule annexin A1 (AnxA1) as a critical regulator of this process. We first observed that AnxA1(-/-) mice have significantly increased neutrophil numbers in their bone marrow while having normal levels of GM and G colony-forming units, monocytes, and macrophages. Although AnxA1(-/-) mice have more neutrophils in the bone marrow, a greater proportion of these cells are senescent, as determined by their higher levels of CXCR4 expression and annexin V binding. Consequently, bone marrow neutrophils from AnxA1(-/-) mice exhibit a reduced migratory capacity in vitro. Studies conducted in vitro also show that expression of AnxA1 is required for bone marrow macrophages, but not peritoneal macrophages, to phagocytose apoptotic neutrophils. Moreover, in vivo experiments indicate a defect in clearance of wild-type neutrophils in the bone marrow of AnxA1(-/-) mice. Thus, we conclude that expression of AnxA1 by resident macrophages is a critical determinant for neutrophil clearance in the bone marrow.-Dalli, J., Jones, C. P., Cavalcanti, D. M., Farsky, S. When dealing with surgical patients, a perioperative evaluation is essential to anticipate complications and institute measures to reduce the risks. Several algorithms and exams have been used to identify postoperative cardiovascular events, which account for more than 50% of perioperative mortality. However, they are far from ideal. Some of these algorithms and exams were proposed before important advances in cardiology, at a time when pharmacological risk reduction strategies for surgical patients were not available. New biomarkers and exams, such as C-reactive protein, brain natriuretic peptide, and multislice computed tomography have been used in cardiology and have provided important prognostic information. The ankle-brachial index is another significant marker of atherosclerosis. However, specific information regarding the perioperative context of all these methods is still needed. The objective of this article is to evaluate cardiovascular risk prediction models after noncardiac surgery.
