Estudi estratègic del coblisme com a bé cultural

Aquest treball de final de carrera tracta sobre l’aplicació de les modernes tècniques de reflexió estratègica aplicades al sector de la cultura popular catalana, concretament la cultura popular catalana que engloba les manifestacions on el vincle comú és la formació musical pròpia: la cobla. Aprofitar aquest sector, a priori tant complex i tant allunyat en principi del món d’estratègia d’empresa com aquest, és l’excusa per veure el comportament d’aquestes eines i teories, i comprovar-ne la seva eficàcia i adaptabilitat als diferents casos de la realitat, a més de poder treballar un tema tant nou com la valoració d’intangibles. A la vegada, es produeix una síntesi de treballs orientats a l’organització d’entitats sense ànim de lucre existents en la bibliografia especialitzada, i que han tingut un inexistent ressò pràctic. Això pot ser un contrasentit en un país on l’associacionisme és tan arrelat i un dels pilars socials que ens vertebren i diferencien. En el cas de la música per a cobla, especialment destacable en un moment molt important i crític per estar en un temps de transició social molt fort. També, cal destacar vivament que té una sèrie de valors afegits de qualitat i complexitat que la situen en un interessant camí entre la cultura popular i les propostes de caràcter més comercial, en unes condicions actuals de gran desconeixement social. Les vinculacions entre estratègia, innovació, responsabilitat social i cultura del coneixement, donen a aquest treball un fort caràcter actual i adaptat a la realitat en les consideracions sobre el management en general.

Analysis by confocal microscopy of the behavior of heat shock protein 70 within the nucleus and of a nuclear matrix polypeptide during prolonged heat shock response in HeLa cells.

By means of confocal laser scanning microscopy and indirect fluorescence experiments we have examined the behavior of heat-shock protein 70 (HSP70) within the nucleus as well as of a nuclear matrix protein (M(r) = 125 kDa) during a prolonged heat-shock response (up to 24 h at 42 degrees C) in HeLa cells. In control cells HSP70 was mainly located in the cytoplasm. The protein translocated within the nucleus upon cell exposure to hyperthermia. The fluorescent pattern revealed by monoclonal antibody to HSP70 exhibited several changes during the 24-h-long incubation. The nuclear matrix protein showed changes in its location that were evident as early as 1 h after initiation of heat shock. After 7 h of treatment, the protein regained its original distribution. However, in the late stages of the hyperthermic treatment (17-24 h) the fluorescent pattern due to 125-kDa protein changed again and its original distribution was never observed again. These results show that HSP70 changes its localization within the nucleus conceivably because it is involved in solubilizing aggregated polypeptides present in different nuclear regions. Our data also strengthen the contention that proteins of the insoluble nucleoskeleton are involved in nuclear structure changes that occur during heat-shock response.

Una Interpretación de la psicología cultural: aplicaciones prácticas y principios teóricos

En el siguiente trabajo se exponen las bases teóricas y se ilustran algunas aplicaciones de una visión de la psicología cultural alrededor del concepto de “vivencia” y “geografía vital”. Según esta perspectiva, el desarrollo humano es el resultado de la participación en prácticas educativas a través de las cuales nos apropiamos de los “signos”, “tecnología cultural” o formas explícitas e implícitas de vida compartida. Se postulan dos supuestos y tres características. Los supuestos son que la experiencia psicológica se debe estudiar en el contexto o situación donde ésta se expresa y construye, siendo la “dieta cultural” el alimento de nuestra mente (nuestros recuerdos, temores, percepciones, sentimientos, pensamientos). Las características nos remiten a considerar la vivencia humana como unidad de análisis, en tanto realidad dinámica situada y distribuida y, finalmente, en tanto producto o resultado de la participación en particulares geografías o contextos de vida. Se esbozan aplicaciones en el campo de la psicología clínica y la rehabilitación, en el terreno socioeducativo y en el ámbito de las organizaciones o psicología del trabajo, como ejemplos de prácticas acordes a una psicología orientada culturalmente. Finalmente, se concluye considerando la necesidad de vertebrar la dimensión subjetiva, social y política de la cultura con el objetivo de ofrecer vías de comprensión ecológicas de la mente y conducta humana

Informe sobre el Seminari «Sistemes d'Informació per a l'Acció Cultural Local» (Barcelona, 25-28 de novembre de 1998)

El passat mes de novembre, l'Àrea de Cultura de la Diputació de Barcelona va organitzar Interacció'98, unes jornades de convocatòria estatal sobre polítiques i gestió cultural. La convocatòria d'enguany ¿la quarta edició¿ tractà d'un centre d'interès específic: «Cultura i poder local». Dins el marc d'Interacció'98, es va organitzar el seminari de «Sistemes d'informació per a l'acció cultural local». Aquest seminari es va organitzar amb l'intent de conjugar la reflexió teòrica amb la presentació de pràctiques amb resultats positius procedents d'organitzacions públiques de diversa adscripció temàtica i sectorial de tot l'Estat espanyol. El comú denominador va ser la seva significació quant a les possibilitats i limitacions dels sistemes d'informació per a l'acció cultural a escala territorial.

Blocs a la biblioteca penitenciària: un taller de dinamització cultural

Es descriu el taller de promoció cultural que encoratja un grup d'interns a crear i publicar blocs, i que es va iniciar l'estiu de 2006 al Centre Penitenciari de Joves de Barcelona, com una col·laboració entre el punt Òmnia i la biblioteca del centre i la Facultat de Biblioteconomia i Documentació de la Universitat de Barcelona. Els objectius han estat promoure l¿educació dels reclusos i millorar-ne el nivell d'informació, animar-los a llegir i escriure més, despertar o potenciar les pròpies habilitats tecnològiques, i ampliar el contacte que tenen amb el món exterior. Es presenten les biblioteques de presó com un agent de suport al desenvolupament intel·lectual, social i cultural dels interns, que pot ajudar-los en el camí de la superació personal. Es fa una valoració crítica de la resposta dels reclusos; l'experiència es considera positiva. I es fa una reflexió doble: sobre el fet que Internet dins la presó és un dret exigible que pot afavorir la integració social i laboral dels interns, i sobre certes necessitats de la biblioteca de presó, entesa com un instrument que influeix en aquesta futura integració.

La diversidad cultural en Google y los motores de búsqueda: una aproximación conceptual

Se analiza una preocupación expresada tanto de forma implícita como explícita en diversos ámbitos, según la cual los motores de búsqueda en general y Google en particular, podrían estar utilizando algún sistema para ocultar determinados contenidos culturales o bien para destacar aquellos que proceden del ámbito anglosajón en detrimento de los de otras culturas y lenguas. Dicho de otro modo, se considera, en una primera aproximación de modo exclusivamente conceptual, la idea de si el uso intensivo de los motores de búsqueda, tan característico de nuestro tiempo, resulta una amenaza para la diversidad cultural. Para ello, en primer lugar y con el fin de contextualizar este trabajo, se lleva a cabo una presentación de dos polémicas previas sobre el dilema proteccionismo o libre flujo de los productos culturales y a continuación se analizan las características más relevantes de los motores de búsqueda (centrándonos en Google en particular) con el fin de valorar si éstos constituyen una amenaza creíble a la diversidad cultural e idiomática de la Web.

Impact of Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry on the Clinical Management of Patients With Gram-negative Bacteremia: A Prospective Observational Study.

Background. Early identification of pathogens from blood cultures using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry may optimize the choice of empirical antibiotic therapy in the setting of bloodstream infections. We aimed to assess the impact of this new technology on the use of antibiotic treatment in patients with gram-negative bacteremia. Methods. We conducted a prospective observational study from January to December 2010 to evaluate the sequential and separate impacts of Gram stain reporting and MALDI-TOF bacterial identification performed on blood culture pellets in patients with gram-negative bacteremia. The primary outcome was the impact of MALDI-TOF on empirical antibiotic choice. Results. Among 202 episodes of gram-negative bacteremia, Gram stain reporting had an impact in 42 cases (20.8%). MALDI-TOF identification led to a modification of empirical therapy in 71 of all 202 cases (35.1%), and in 16 of 27 cases (59.3%) of monomicrobial bacteremia caused by AmpC-producing Enterobacteriaceae. The most frequently observed impact was an early appropriate broadening of the antibiotic spectrum in 31 of 71 cases (43.7%). In total, 143 of 165 episodes (86.7%) of monomicrobial bacteremia were correctly identified at genus level by MALDI-TOF. Conclusions. In a low prevalence area for extended spectrum betalactamases (ESBL) and multiresistant gram-negative bacteria, MALDI-TOF performed on blood culture pellets had an impact on the clinical management of 35.1% of all gram-negative bacteremia cases, demonstrating a greater impact than Gram stain reporting. Thus, MALDI-TOF could become a vital second step beside Gram stain in guiding the empirical treatment of patients with bloodstream infection.

Supplemental Information to the August 2008 Cultural Heritage and Records Retention Task Force Report, August 2008

The Rebuild Iowa Cultural Heritage and Records Retention Task Force respectfully submits its report to the Rebuild Iowa Advisory Commission (RIAC) for its consideration of the impacts of the tornadoes, storms, and flooding on Iowans and their cultural, historical, and arts institutions and organizations and records collections and archives. As the RIAC fulfills its obligations to guide the recovery and reconstruction of Iowa, the cknowledgement that culture and records as Iowa’s identity is important, and that if these items of cultural heritage vanish from Iowa’s landscape, the items that Iowans associate with their history, traditions, and sense of place also disappears. Iowa is certainly not the only state that has experienced this type of disaster; however, many states have not recognized culture and records as critical concerns as part of the recovery and rebuilding process. When rebuilding Iowa stronger, smarter, and safer, quality of life is an important consideration for attracting new residents, making it a necessity to keep culture alive and thriving in Iowa. Additionally, the cultural arts constitute a vital economic industry, providing employment to thousands of Iowa’s citizens and generating millions of dollars in local and government revenue across the state. In the case of records, these items are irreplaceable and provide important information for the daily workings of government and life in our state, and maintain vital records of Iowa’s heritage and traditions. This report provides background information on the damages incurred in Iowa from the disasters and additional context for policy and rebuilding discussions. It also offers recommendations to the RIAC for steps that might be taken to address the significant and important challenges faced by Iowa’s cultural, historical, and arts institutions and organizations; individual artists and other cultural workers; and records retention entities and officials. Mapping cell-matrix stresses during stretch reveals inelastic reorganization of the cytoskeleton.

The mechanical properties of the living cell are intimately related to cell signaling biology through cytoskeletal tension. The tension borne by the cytoskeleton (CSK) is in part generated internally by the actomyosin machinery and externally by stretch. Here we studied how cytoskeletal tension is modified during stretch and the tensional changes undergone by the sites of cell-matrix interaction. To this end we developed a novel technique to map cell-matrix stresses during application of stretch. We found that cell-matrix stresses increased with imposition of stretch but dropped below baseline levels on stretch release. Inhibition of the actomyosin machinery resulted in a larger relative increase in CSK tension with stretch and in a smaller drop in tension after stretch release. Cell-matrix stress maps showed that the loci of cell adhesion initially bearing greater stress also exhibited larger drops in traction forces after stretch removal. Our results suggest that stretch partially disrupts the actin-myosin apparatus and the cytoskeletal structures that support the largest CSK tension. These findings indicate that cells use the mechanical energy injected by stretch to rapidly reorganize their structure and redistribute tension.

Molecular imaging of matrix metalloproteinases in atherosclerotic plaques.

Ischaemic stroke and myocardial infarction often result from the sudden rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque. The subsequent arterial thrombosis occluding the vessel lumen has been widely indicated as the crucial acute event causing peripheral tissue ischaemia. A complex cross-talk between systemic and intraplaque inflammatory mediators has been shown to regulate maturation, remodeling and final rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are proteolytic enzymes (released by several cell subsets within atherosclerotic plaques), which favour atherogenesis and increase plaque vulnerability. Thus, the assessment of intraplaque levels and activity of MMP might be of pivotal relevance in the evaluation of the risk of rupture. New imaging approaches, focused on the visualisation of inflammation in the vessel wall and plaque, may emerge as tools for individualised risk assessment and prevention of events. In this review, we summarize experimental findings of the currently available invasive and noninvasive imaging techniques, used to detect the presence and activity of MMPs in atherosclerotic plaques.

El profesorado ante el reto de la diversidad cultural: un estudio de caso aplicado a la escuela rural

Analitza el pensament del professorat d'una escola rural davant el fenomen de la diversitat cultural. El treball intenta fer emergir els aspectes fonamentals que potenciaran o limitaran l'acció educativa del professorat i de l'escola per tal de normalitzar i d'incloure l'alumnat nouvingut i/o d'altres comunitats culturals ja afincades a la zona.
