30. Sitzung des Codex Alimentarius Komitees für Fische und Fischerzeugnisse in Agadir, Marokko, vom 28.9. bis 2.10.2009

The Codex Committee on Fish and Fishery Products held its 30th Session in Agadir, Morocco from 28 September to 2 October 2009, at the kind invitation of the Government of Morocco. The Session was chaired by Dr Bjørn Røthe Knudsen, Regional Director of the Norwegian Food Safety Authority. The Session was attended by 218 delegates representing 78 Member States, one Member Organization (EC) and 1 international organization.

Implantação de células experimentais para a avaliação de codisposição de resíduos sólidos de serviço de saúde e resíduos sólidos domiciliares: resultados preliminares

O tratamento e o destino final dos resíduos sólidos de serviços de saúde são assuntos que têm gerado controvérsias no tocante às alternativas tecnológicas disponíveis e aos riscos para a saúde pública e ao meio ambiente. O presente trabalho consistiu na caracterização físico-química e toxicológica de lixiviados de resíduos de serviços de saúde e de lixo domiciliar coletados pela Companhia Municipal de Limpeza Urbana (COMLURB) na cidade do Rio de Janeiro e teve por objetivo subsidiar a discussão com relação à questão da necessidade de tratamento e disposição final diferenciada para os resíduos de serviços de saúde. Os resultados obtidos ilustram uma biodegradabilidade não tão elevada dos lixiviados das Células experimentais C1, C2 e C3, onde C1 contém 100% de RSD, C2 100% de RSS e C3 98% de RSD em mistura com 2% de RSS. Percolados oriundos de aterros sanitários novos se caracterizam nomalmente por valores elevados de biodegradabilidade. No entanto, os resultados mostram um baixo nível de biodegradabilidade dos lixiviados das Células experimentais C1, C2 e C3. Os parâmetros físico-químicos analisados indicam que os microorganismos encontram-se ainda na fase de adaptação ao meio. Os resultados mostraram mais similaridades do que diferenças no lixiviado gerados da disposição de RSD, RSS e sua codisposição durante um período de 60 dias de operação das células experimentais.

Application of Entropy and Fractal Dimension Analyses to the Pattern Recognition of Contaminated Fish Responses in Aquaculture

The objective of the work was to develop a non-invasive methodology for image acquisition, processing and nonlinear trajectory analysis of the collective fish response to a stochastic event. Object detection and motion estimation were performed by an optical flow algorithm in order to detect moving fish and simultaneously eliminate background, noise and artifacts. The Entropy and the Fractal Dimension (FD) of the trajectory followed by the centroids of the groups of fish were calculated using Shannon and permutation Entropy and the Katz, Higuchi and Katz-Castiglioni's FD algorithms respectively. The methodology was tested on three case groups of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax), two of which were similar (C1 control and C2 tagged fish) and very different from the third (C3, tagged fish submerged in methylmercury contaminated water). The results indicate that Shannon entropy and Katz-Castiglioni were the most sensitive algorithms and proved to be promising tools for the non-invasive identification and quantification of differences in fish responses. In conclusion, we believe that this methodology has the potential to be embedded in online/real time architecture for contaminant monitoring programs in the aquaculture industry.

Guía para el estudio de macroinvertebrados. II.- Introducción a la metodología de muestreo y análisis de datos.

Sobre la base de los objetivos propuestos, el muestreo tiene que estar cuidadosamente planeado (diseño de protocolo de muestreo) para que se pueda realizar una comprobación estadística de los resultados. Las herramientas de análisis como son los cálculos numéricos y los análisis estadísticos están ligados al estudio en sí, ya que son los que nos permiten demostrar que los resultados de una investigación son el producto de procesos ecológicos y no del azar.

Transcripción de 17 conferencias, 13 en castellano, 3 en inglés y uno en portugués, dictadas durante la Reunión Argentina de Limnología (RAL'91)llevada a cabo en la ciudad de La Plata y la que terminó teniendo carácter internacional. La mayoría son revisiones de temas más o menos amplios o síntesis de la obra del propio autor. Se intentó dar un cierto orden de distribución de los trabajos por temática.

Acoustic plasmons in extrinsic free-standing graphene

An acoustic plasmon is predicted to occur, in addition to the conventional two-dimensional (2D) plasmon, as the collective motion of a system of two types of electronic carriers coexisting in the same 2D band of extrinsic (doped or gated) graphene. The origin of this novel mode stems from the anisotropy present in the graphene band structure near the Dirac points K and K'. This anisotropy allows for the coexistence of carriers moving with two distinct Fermi velocities along the Gamma K and Gamma K' directions, which leads to two modes of collective oscillation: one mode in which the two types of carriers oscillate in phase with one another (this is the conventional 2D graphene plasmon, which at long wavelengths (q -> 0) has the same dispersion, q(1/2), as the conventional 2D plasmon of a 2D free electron gas), and the other mode found here corresponds to a low-frequency acoustic oscillation (whose energy exhibits at long-wavelengths a linear dependence on the 2D wavenumber q) in which the two types of carriers oscillate out of phase.
