Over the last decades of the 20th century, our society started an endless search for an ideal of beauty, advertised intensely by mass communication media. The concept of beauty pursued is being young, beautiful and thin. Thus, teenagers eventually die in the search for an ideal of body dominated by fat-fearing ideas. This article is a report about the field experience, during the collection of data for elaborating our Master’s Degree Dissertation on anorexia and adolescence. We went through an internship in an Eating Disease Program of a Mental Health Ambulatory from a Public University in the State of Sao Paulo, where we were able to experience the service organization, attention to users and the experience of anorexia, by the users in treatment. As the main result from this experience, it is possible to indicate the clientele profile, comprised predominantly by teenage girls, obsessed with the incessant pursuit of being thinner.

Diferença entre as espécies de Timbó (Derris Spp., Fabaceae) de diferentes regiões da Amazônia no controle da Musca domestica L.

The roots' powder of timbo species collected in different regions of Amazonia that were tested in larvae groupings, didn't produce differential significative effects in two strains of Musca domestica. The two species with the greater number of plants used in the trial were Derris urucu and Derris nicou; the individuals from the species came from regions considered as "forestal refugies" during the Amazonian pleistocene. Among each species the plants varied since that inefficient to control, until plants lethals to the fies. This differential capacity for larvae control among plants of the same species, originated from different regions, suggests that both species had their populations isolated, during the quaternary epoch. In regions or "forestal refugies", where both species were represented, D. urucu was superior to D. nicou in the capacity to control larvae. While among plants from F region (Peruvian-East refuge) of the State of Acre, the two species had convergence in the values of damage to larvae groupings. Among the another species, Derris sp. (yellow timbo or watermelon timbo) didn't show differences in larvae control between samples from the two regions; while the species that was introduced in the Amazonia Denis elleptica showed damage in the larvae groupings similar to the most effective plants of D. nicou and D. urucu.

Amplification of neuromuscular transmission by methylprednisolone involves activation of presynaptic facilitatory adenosine A(2A) receptors and redistribution of synaptic vesicles

The mechanisms underlying improvement of neuromuscular transmission deficits by glucocorticoids are still a matter of debate despite these compounds have been used for decades in the treatment of autoimmune myasthenic syndromes. Besides their immunosuppressive action, corticosteroids may directly facilitate transmitter release during high-frequency motor nerve activity. This effect coincides with the predominant adenosine A(2A) receptor tonus, which coordinates the interplay with other receptors (e.g. muscarinic) on motor nerve endings to sustain acetylcholine (ACh) release that is required to overcome tetanic neuromuscular depression in myasthenics. Using myographic recordings, measurements of evoked [H-3]ACh release and real-time video microscopy with the FM4-64 fluorescent dye, results show that tonic activation of facilitatory A(2A) receptors by endogenous adenosine accumulated during 50 Hz bursts delivered to the rat phrenic nerve is essential for methylprednisolone (03 mM)-induced transmitter release facilitation, because its effect was prevented by the A(2A) receptor antagonist, ZM 241385 (10 nM). Concurrent activation of the positive feedback loop operated by pirenzepine-sensitive muscarinic M-1 autoreceptors may also play a role, whereas the corticosteroid action is restrained by the activation of co-expressed inhibitory M-2 and Al receptors blocked by methoctramine (0.1 mu M) and DPCPX (2.5 nM), respectively. Inhibition of FM4-64 loading (endocytosis) by methylprednisolone following a brief tetanic stimulus (50 Hz for 5 s) suggests that it may negatively modulate synaptic vesicle turnover, thus increasing the release probability of newly recycled vesicles. Interestingly, bulk endocytosis was rehabilitated when methylprednisolone was co-applied with ZM241385. Data suggest that amplification of neuromuscular transmission by methylprednisolone may involve activation of presynaptic facilitatory adenosine A(2A) receptors by endogenous adenosine leading to synaptic vesicle redistribution. Endocrine and paracrine regulation of zebrafish spermatogenesis: the Sertoli cell perspective

Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) either self-renew or differentiate into spermatogonia that further develop into spermatozoa. Self-renewal occurs when residing in a specific micro-environment (niche) while displacement from the niche would tip the signalling balance towards differentiation. Considering the cystic type of spermatogenesis in fish, the SSC candidates are single type A undifferentiated (A(und)) spermatogonia, enveloped by mostly one niche-forming Sertoli cell. When going through a self-renewal cell cycle, the resulting new single type Aund spermatogonium would have to recruit another Sertoli cell to expand the niche space, while a differentiating germ cell cyle would result in a pair of spermatogonia that remain in contact with their cyst-forming Sertoli cells. In zebrafish, thyroid hormone stimulates the proliferation of Sertoli cells and of type Aund spermatogonia, involving Igf3, a new member of the Igf family. In cystic spermatogenesis, type Aund spermatogonia usually do not leave the niche, so that supposedly the signalling in the niche changes when switching from self-renewal to differentiation. and rzAmh inhibited differentiation of type A(und) spermatogonia as well as Fsh-stimulated steroidogenesis. Thus, for Fsh to efficiently stimulate testis functions, Amh bioactivity should be dampened. We also discovered that Fsh increased Sertoli cell Igf3 gene and protein expression; rzIgf3 stimulated spermatogonial proliferation and Fsh-stimulated spermatogenesis was significantly impaired by inhibiting Igf receptor signaling. We propose that in zebrafish, Fsh is the major regulator of testis functions and, supported by other endocrine systems (e.g. thyroid hormone), regulates Leydig cell steroidogenesis as well as Sertoli cell number and growth factor production to promote spermatogenesis.

Laparoscopy of the genitourinary tract of small ruminants

Laparoscopic endosurgery is an important tool for small ruminant breeding especially due to its wide versatility, both in reproductive biotechnologies and therapeutic approach. The purpose of this review is to present the applicability and advantages of endosurgery for routine use in small ruminants. Several endosurgical techniques of the genitourinary tract of small ruminants, including artificial insemination, embryo transfer, and oocyte retrieval for IVF, ovariectomy, cystotomy and renal biopsy are approached. The endoscopic techniques can improve the development of potential zootechnical indexes on the short-term period in comparison to traditional approaches.

We will deal with the Marxian criticism to the Hegelian notion of "being". it will be shown that historicity and objectivity are determinations of this category (and that categories are always.,forms of being, determinations of existence). So, the analogy between the Hegelian logic and the Marxian theory may sometimes, hide essential aspects of the materialist comprehension of history Here, we intend to prove that, by questioning the treatment dispensed to the matter of being by Hegel, Marx criticizes the Hegelian inversion between subject and predicate in a way that, although dialoguing with Hegel, his conception is the exact opposite at the same time.

Indicadores bibliométricos em ciência da informação: análise dos pesquisadores mais produtivos no tema estudos métricos na base Scopus

This research aims at analyzing the indicators of impact and relevance - total of published articles, average of citations, total number of citations and index h of the most productive researchers in the Metric Studies field, within periods of the Scopus base by means of a correlation study, determining the best equation of regression of index h due to the total of citations, as well as to all other indicators under analysis. As research procedure, we used the search terms bibliometr* OR scientometr* OR infometr* OR webometr* OR informetr* OR webmemetr* OR paentometr*, obtaining 36 researchers as the most productive ones. For each indicator, the following descriptive statistics were calculated: maximum, minimum, average, standard deviation and coefficient of variation. The coefficient of correlation of Pearson was calculated and adjusted to the equation of regression of index h due to the total of citations. The equation of multiple regression was identified, from index h due to the other indicators. Concluding, we highlight the need for a matching of such indicators to broadly describe a researcher's multifaceted profile, seeing the complementarity of information provided by the indicators of productivity and impact, from distinctive nature.

Clareamento dentário x autoestima x autoimagem

Dental changes that compromise facial harmony can have serious consequences on the social image of the patient. Depending on the emotional significance for the individual it can change interpersonal relationships, causing profound changes in their patterns of self-acceptance and self-image, with profound effects on their self-esteem of the patient. The search for tooth whitening as cosmetic factor for a harmonic smile grew sharply in the last decade. Although the color of the tooth represents only one aspect in the set of determinants of facial harmony, it is a strong factor because it is quickly perceived. This study aims to report the clinical case of a patient with spots on their upper central incisors. For the patient these spots have compromised her smile, causing harm and discomfort in their everyday social and professional relationships.

Laminados cerâmicos em dentes tratados endodonticamente: considerações restauradoras e endodônticas com finalidade protética

A harmonia e beleza de um sorriso podem ser comprometidos pela presença de apenas um dente da região anterior que se apresente escurecido, mesmo que os demais elementos estejam alinhados e com forma adequada. A alteração de coloração, mesmo que mínima, sendo na região frontal é capaz de gerar um ponto de tensão e de desequilíbrio no sorriso, concentrando o olhar do observador no local1,2,3. Logo, a demanda dos pacientes por um sorriso estético, belo e harmonioso aumenta o desafio do profissional que visa integrar as características ópticas de um dente anterior despolpado e escurecido com os demais dentes polpados e sem manchamentos significativos. O clareamento é a alternativa mais conservadora para resolver o escurecimento em dentes despolpados. Apesar de resultados satisfatórios, alguns clínicos e autores relutam em assumir, como rotina, os procedimentos de clareamento para dentes despolpados, pelo alto índice de recidiva de escurecimento4,5. Mas, é importante lembrar que as recidivas descritas, normalmente, não contemplam um retorno aos valores inicias de manchamento. Deve ser feito um bom planejamento, levando em considerações fatores como a idade do paciente, o grau de escurecimento, o tempo em que o dente se encontra escurecido e a dificuldade em se alcançar o clareamento do dente, que são determinantes para o sucesso do tratamento clareador e para estabelecer a longevidade do clareamento obtido. Por isso, não são todos os dentes despolpados que apresentam alteração de cor que podem ser clareados, devendo ser avaliados com precisão os critérios estabelecidos3. Os dentes tratados endodonticamente e escurecidos, muitas vezes, necessitam da reintegração estética, associando as técnicas de clareamento com procedimentos restauradores ou, dependendo da condição do dente, a escolha imediata por procedimentos restauradores diretos ou indiretos.
