This article narrates from experiences in the classroom, the use of visual perception in the search for the solution of a basic problem of modular repetition, embodied by the lack of continuity in the elements that shape the design surface. Although Wong (1998) approach emphasizes the intuitive and intellectual approach as different parameters for building visual compositions, we list both as participants in the same focus, where the solution starts from the sensory stimulation.

O antigo edifício do Matadouro Municipal, aparece no cenário do município de Presidente Prudente como um importante elemento do imaginário social urbano e de forte valor arquitetônico e histórico. É possível perceber a presença de alguns marcos e lugares que revelam uma leitura da arquitetura histórica da cidade, sendo a área do Museu e Arquivo Histórico de Presidente Prudente um conjunto de interesse cultural neste espaço urbano. Este trabalho elabora uma análise detalhada da paisagem antiga e atual e quais são os registros histórico/culturais materializados no antigo matadouro e propõe adequar o edifício histórico às novas funções urbanas contemporâneas, com o propósito de preservar a função de museu e arquivo histórico e recuperar esta herança para cidade e seu valor patrimonial

The activation of aluminum surface has the most various purposes as for example the search for the surface activation mechanism and the corrosion products by mercury ions. The objective of this work is to study the reactivity of the surface of aluminum metal when activated by mercury ions (Hg2+), with the consequent formation of an Al-Hg amalgam. Results demonstrate that the kinetics of the reaction, by measuring the mass change with time of the corrosion product formed between Al and Hg, and analysis by infrared spectroscopy (IR) that the product of the reaction between the amalgam, located on the surface, and the atmospheric oxygen is Al2O3 (aluminum hydroxide). The results also indicate that the kinetics of the reaction between the amalgam (Hg-Al) and atmospheric oxygen is of first order and reach a region where there is no more formation of product

From the second half of the twentieth century, due to several factors that have attracted industries and public investments to the city, São José dos Campos has begun to stand out in the economic and industrial scenario. Consequently, the city received a big migratory flow of workers, families and those who seeked a better life, which caused the horizontal e vertical expansion of the city. With the high demand of urban spaces and increasing of property speculation, the verticalization process was necessary. Robots are needed to perform important field tasks such as hazardous material clean-up, nuclear site inspection, and space exploration. Unfortunately their use is not widespread due to their long development times and high costs. To make them practical, a modular design approach is proposed. Prefabricated modules are rapidly assembled to give a low-cost system for a specific task. This paper described the modular design problem for field robots and the application of a hierarchical selection process to solve this problem. Theoretical analysis and an example case study are presented. The theoretical analysis of the modular design problem revealed the large size of the search space. It showed the advantages of approaching the design on various levels. The hierarchical selection process applies physical rules to reduce the search space to a computationally feasible size and a genetic algorithm performs the final search in a greatly reduced space. This process is based on the observation that simple physically based rules can eliminate large sections of the design space to greatly simplify the search. The design process is applied to a duct inspection task. Five candidate robots were developed. Two of these robots are evaluated using detailed physical simulation. It is shown that the more obvious solution is not able to complete the task, while the non-obvious asymmetric design develop by the process is successful.
