A few autoreactive cells in an autoimmune infiltrate control a vast population of nonspecific cells: a tale of smart bombs and the infantry.

Inflammatory infiltrates in tissue-specific autoimmune disease comprise a collection of T cells with specificity for an antigen in the target organ. These specific cells recruit a population of nonspecific T cells and macrophages. The rare tissue-specific T cells in the infiltrate have the capacity to regulate both the influx and the efflux of cells from the tissue. Administration of an altered peptide ligand for the specific T cell which triggers autoimmunity can lead to the regression of the entire inflammatory ensemble in a few hours. Interleukin 4 is a critical cytokine involved in the regression of the inflammatory infiltrate.

The Adequacy of Wildlife Management on an Endangered Species: A Design Template for Ecosystems Management in Alabama

The Alabama beach mouse (ABM) was listed an an endangered species in 1985. The ABM has been cited as being minimally managed since its listing. The Sierra Club points out the lack of Primary Consituent Elements (PCE) that are required by the Endangered Species Act of 1973. While traditional habitat status is mired in legal and bureaucratic delays, effective management remains less than optimal. Ecosystem management presents with it, new observable and technological tools that may present a panacea in the ABM's paradox. This Capstone looks at the possible implementation of an ecosystems management alternative in aiding the persistence of a small isolated and endangered species.

A neural network algorithm to simplify 2D meshes

In this paper we propose a neural network model to simplify and 2D meshes. This model is based on the Growing Neural Gas model and is able to simplify any mesh with different topologies and sizes. A triangulation process is included with the objective to reconstruct the mesh. This model is applied to some problems related to urban networks.

El despertar de una ciudad: Albacete 1898-1936

El libro, resultado de la Tesis Doctoral de su autora, estudia y analiza la arquitectura y la ciudad de Albacete en el primer tercio del siglo XX, momento en el que, por diversas circunstancias, algunas de las cuales hunden sus raíces en el siglo XIX, la ciudad se metamorfosea en tal. El libro tiene dos partes: la primera trata de la ciudad, como soporte físico, jurídico, social y cultural de una arquitectura que se describe, con pormenor y cronológicamente, en la segunda parte.

Descripción, tratamiento y valoración ponderada de la documentación utilizada en la investigación para la realización de la Tesis Doctoral "Albacete 1898-1936. Arquitectura y Ciudad". En primer lugar, se describe tanto la documentación analizada como las lagunas encontradas en los archivos histórico provincial y municipal de Albacete; a continuación se explican los criterios de selección, catalogación y ordenación de la misma; luego, las fichas documentales elaboradas y, finalmente, los mapas de renovación y crecimiento de la ciudad. Se aporta un ejemplo de ficha.
