Taidehistorian pääkokoelma sijaitsee kirjaston lainattavassa kokoelmassa. Se koostuu n. 3 400 niteestä monografioita (tiedot marraskuulta 2009). Lisäksi on noin 100 jatkuvaa painettua julkaisua, n. 100 elektronista lehteä ja vanhoja foliokokoisia taidekirjoja noin 8 hm. Taidehistoria ei ole kirjaston ydinaihealue, ja kokoelmaa ei kartuteta aktiivisesti muuten kuin kotimaisen ja pohjoismaisen vanhan taiteen tutkimuksen osalta. Kokoelma on koostunut pääasiassa lahjoituksista. Nykytaidetta ei juurikaan oteta kokoelmiin. Kokoelma on tästä syystä huomattavan vanhaa, 34 % on julkaistu ennen vuotta 1950 (pohjoismaiden ja muiden maiden luokissa 42 %). 2000-luvulla julkaistua aineistoa on koko taidehistorian kokoelmassa vain 7 %. Suomen taidehistoriaa kartutetaan kuitenkin aktiivisemmin, 2000-luvun kirjallisuutta on luokassa 21 %. Vähäisen käytön takia suuri osa muita maita koskevaa yleistä taidehistoriallista kirjallisuutta tullaankin muuton yhteydessä poistamaan kirjaston kokoelmista. Aineisto koostuu yleisestä taidehistoriasta, kuvataiteesta, taiteilijamonografioista ja kirkkotaiteesta. Suomen taidehistoriaa on noin 500 nimekettä, Pohjoismaiden noin 350 nimekettä, Baltian noin 50 nimekettä ja muiden maiden noin 2 200 nimekettä. Kokoelma on monikielistä. Suurimmat kieliryhmät ovat: saksa 36 %, englanti 18 %, suomi 15 %, ruotsi 13 % ja ranska 8 %. Kirjastossa on lisäksi venäläisen taidehistorian kokoelma, jonkun verran taidemuseoiden näyttelyluetteloita sekä taideteollisuuden ja arkkitehtuurin kokoelmat. Ennen vuotta 1900 julkaistu kirjallisuus on siirretty ei lainattavaan kokoelmaan. Kirjaston muuttoon v. 2011 liittyneiden poistojen jälkeen kokoelmissa oli 2 666 nidettä 19.12.2011 (vrt. 3 400 ennen muuttoa). Poistettu oli lähinnä muiden maiden yleistä taidehistoriaa, jota oli nyt 1 750 (vrt. 2 200). Kokoelmissa on lisäksi muutama sata venäläiseen taidehistorian kokoelmaan kuuluvaa kirjaa. Arkkitehtuurin kokoelmassa oli v. 2011 n. 400 Suomen, n. 400 Pohjoismaiden, n. 150 Baltian, n. 140 Venäjän ja n. 630 muiden maiden arkkitehtuuriin ja rakennustaiteen historiaan ja interiööreihin liittyvää teosta, joista mainittakoon kirkkorakennuksiin liittyvä verraten laaja kirjallisuus ja pieni puutarhataiteen kokoelma.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the antioxidant properties of ginger and rosemary extracts, obtained by supercritical extraction. The extracts were characterized by HPLC, GC-MS, phenolic compounds content and antioxidant activity. The main active compounds were identified and high content of phenolic compounds was observed. The extracts presented high antioxidant activity against the free radicals ABTS•+ (350 and 200 mM Trolox/g, for ginger and rosemary, respectively) and DPPH•+ (145 and 80 mM Trolox/g, for ginger and rosemary, respectively). These results suggested that the attained extracts are potential substitutes of synthetic antioxidants used in chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries.

Four tropical woods, were investigated to compare their performance and natural resistances to artificial weathering using the diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFT). The species were garapeira (Apuleia leiocarpa), itaúba (Mezilaurus itauba) and tauari (Couratari sp.), woods traditionally indicated for exterior uses, and marupá (Simarouba amara), that served as reference. The samples were submitted to cycles of UV radiation (350 nm) and water until 2,000 h. The photodegradation processes of woods surfaces were accomplished monitoring the changes in the intensities associated to lignin (1508 cm-1) and carbonyl group (1736 cm-1) absorptions. The results have shown that lignin was the first component to be photodegradated, resulting in surfaces mainly composed by cellulose, after 2,000 h of UV irradiation. The processes of formation and lixiviation of carbonyl compounds were different for each species. The experimental conditions used in this work were too severe to evaluate the wood density and extractives content influences during the treatment.

This paper describes a degradation study of the anti-inflammatory sodium diclofenac in aqueous medium using an electro-chemical flow reactor with a gas diffusion electrode as cathode. Two degradation processes were compared: by H2O2 electro-generated and H2O2 electro-generated/Fe(II). Concentration of sodium diclofenac was determined during the experiments by HPLC. The changes in chemical oxigen demand (COD) were also evaluated. Under the specific reaction conditions, 350 mg L-1 of H2O2 was electro-generated and 99.2% of sodium diclofenac was degradated, with 27.4% COD reduction. At the same conditions, but using Fe(II), drug degradation was 99.4% and the COD reduction was 63.2%.

The aromatic flora of the Amazon has been inventoried for 30 years. In this sense, were made over 500 field trips to collect over 2500 plants and to obtain more than 2000 essential oils and aroma concentrates, all of them submitted to GC and GC-MS. This work led to the creation of a database for the aromatic plants of the Amazon, which catalogs general information about 1250 specimens. The database has allowed the publication of the chemical composition of the oils and aromas of more than 350 species, associated with a larger number of chemical types. The essential oils of many species offer optimum conditions for economic exploitation and use in national and international market of fragrances, cosmetics, agricultural and household pesticides.

Iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized in microemulsion systems composed by Triton X-100/hexyl alcohol/cyclohexane/aqueous solution. The nanoparticles were synthesized in microemulsions containing different amounts of ammonium, in order to evaluate the influence of this parameter on the size of the nanoparticles and on the phase transformation after heat treatment. Powder materials were obtained after centrifugation, washing and drying, and they were analyzed as synthesized and after heating at 350, 500 and 1000 °C. It was observed that the higher amount of ammonium induced smaller particles and minor phase transformation, possibly due to a preferential nucleation process.

A multivariate spectrophotometric method was developed for analysis of kojic acid/hydroquinone associations in skin whitening cosmetics. The method is based on the reaction between kojic acid and Fe3+ and on the reduction of Fe3+ by hydroquinone and further complexation of Fe2+ with 1,10-phenanthroline. The multivariate model was developed by Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR), using 25 synthetic mixtures and mean-centered spectral data (350-380 nm). The use of 3 (kojic acid) and 2 (hydroquinone) latent variables permits the observation of mean errors of about 5% in the external validation phase.

Sosiaalinen media on viime aikoina ollut paljon esillä eri medioissa. Tämä johtuu lähinnä siitä, että erilaiset sosiaaliset yhteisöpalvelut ovat kasvattaneet huimasti suosiotaan. Suuresta suosiosta kertoo esimerkiksi yhteisöpalvelu Facebookin käyttäjämäärän nopea kasvu. Vasta vuonna 2004 perustetulla yhteisöpalvelulla on jo yli 350 miljoonaa aktiivista käyttäjää ympäri maailmaa. Huolimatta eri palveluiden käyttäjämäärien kasvusta, suurin osa yrityksistä, varsinkaan suomalaisista, ei ole vielä löytänyt tietään kyseisiin palveluihin. Yritykset eivät siis ole vielä täysin ymmärtäneet sosiaalisen median potentiaalia viestintäkanavana, vaikka sosiaalisten palveluiden käyttäjämäärien kasvu, ja toisaalta sosiaalisen median vaikutus viestintään on jo ehditty tunnistaa. Tämä kandidaatintutkielma yrittää selvittää, kuinka yritykset voisivat hyödyntää sosiaalista mediaa markkinointiviestintäkanavana. Tutkielmassa keskitytään esittelemään osallistavaa markkinointiviestintää eli uudenlaista tapaa tehdä markkinointiviestintää kuluttajille, sekä sosiaalista mediaa, uudenlaista viestintäkanavaa, jossa kuluttajat ovat läsnä. Näitä kahta uutta viestintään liittyvää käsitettä lähdetään avaamaa esimerkiksi vastaten kysymyksiin: mitä niillä tarkoitetaan, mitä ne sisältävät ja miten ne vaikuttavat yrityksien ja kuluttajien väliseen vuorovaikutukseen?

Previous studies have verified that free radicals such as quinone moieties in organic matter participate in the redox reactions in natural systems. These functional groups were positively correlated with the increase in aromaticity and hydrophobicity of the humic substances. As an alternative to relatively complex and expensive spectroscopic methods, the redox properties of the humic substances, determined by potentiometric titrations, have been used to evaluate organic carbon stability in soil and sediments. The present study aimed to perform organic matter fractionation and isolation of humic substances from deep oceans in different isobaths (750; 1,050; 1,350; 1,650; 1,950 m) to determine their redox properties by iodimetric titrations under an inert atmosphere and specified conditions of pH and ionic strength. Sediment samples were collected to the North and South of platforms of petroleum exploration located in the North of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. Fractions of organic carbon and redox properties of humic substances varied with origin and depth of the samples and with position North and South of the petroleum exploration area.

The optimization of the anaerobic degradation of the azo dye Remazol golden yellow RNL was performed according to multivariate experimental designs: a 2² full-factorial design and a central composite design (CCD). The CCD revealed that the best incubation conditions (90% color removal) for the degradation of the azo dye (50 mg L- 1) were achieved with 350 mg L- 1 of yeast extract and 45 mL of anaerobic supernatant (free cell extract) produced from the incubation of 650 mg L- 1 of anaerobic microorganisms and 250 mg L- 1 of glucose. A first-order kinetics model best fit the experimental data (k = 0.0837 h- 1, R² = 0.9263).

ZnO/TiO2 nanocomposites were prepared by impregnating zinc acetate dihydrate on the surface of titanium dioxide P25, followed by thermal treatment at 350, 600, 750, and 900 °C, in order to investigate the TiO2 phase and titanate formation and the role of the latter in the photocatalytic activity of the nanocomposite. In the nanocomposites, the anatase-to-rutile transition is favored due to the presence of Zn2+, and the conversion is nearly complete at 750 °C. The presence of zinc metatitanate in the sample heated at 600 °C had no significant effect on the nanocomposite photocatalytic activity.

Two simple and efficient procedures have been developed for the rapid simultaneous determination of compounds with mutual spectral interference (rifampicin (RIF) and isoniazid (INH)). The first method was based on the UV–Vis spectral signal (190–600 nm) of synthetic RIF and INH aqueous solutions, whereas the second method involved the visible spectral signal registered between 350 and 800 nm after the reaction of INH with a Cu2+/neocuproine complex. Both multivariate spectrophotometric methods show excellent prevision capacity, providing results that are statistically equivalent with those provided by the standard chromatographic procedure. The methods were validated according to criteria established by ANVISA, showing precision, accuracy and robustness compatible with the requirements for new analytical methods, additionally allowing the reduction of waste generation.

The objective of this research was to develop a primer for a polymerase chain reaction specific for Xylella fastidiosa strains that cause Pierce's Disease (PD) in grapes (Vitis vinifera). The DNA amplification of 23 different strains of X. fastidiosa, using a set of primers REP1-R (5'-IIIICGICGIATCCIGGC-3') and REP 2 (5'-ICGICTTATCIGGCCTAC-3') using the following program: 94 ºC/2 min; 35 X (94 ºC/1 min, 45 ºC/1 min and 72 ºC/1 min and 30 s) 72 ºC/5 min, produced a fragment of 630 bp that differentiated the strains that cause disease in grapes from the other strains. However, REP banding patterns could not be considered reliable for detection because the REP1-R and REP 2 primers correspond to repetitive sequences, which are found throughout the bacterial genome. The amplified product of 630 bp was eluted from the agarose gel, purified and sequenced. The nucleotide sequence information was used to identify and synthesize an specific oligonucleotide for X. fastidiosa strains that cause Pierce's Disease denominated Xf-1 (5'-CGGGGGTGTAGGAGGGGTTGT-3') which was used jointly with the REP-2 primer at the following conditions: 94 ºC/2 min; 35 X (94 ºC/1 min, 62 ºC/1 min; 72 ºC/1 min and 30 s) 72 ºC/10 min. The DNAs isolated from strains of X. fastidiosa from other hosts [almond (Prumus amygdalus), citrus (Citrus spp.), coffee (Coffea arabica), elm (Ulmus americana), mulberry (Morus rubra), oak (Quercus rubra), periwinkle wilt (Catharantus roseus), plums (Prunus salicina) and ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia)] and also from other Gram negative and positive bacteria were submitted to amplification with a pair of primers Xf-1/REP 2 to verify its specificity. A fragment, about 350 bp, was amplified only when the DNA from strains of X. fastidiosa isolated from grapes was employed.
