High performance video standards use prediction techniques to achieve high picture quality at low bit rates. The type of prediction decides the bit rates and the image quality. Intra Prediction achieves high video quality with significant reduction in bit rate. This paper present an area optimized architecture for Intra prediction, for H.264 decoding at HDTV resolution with a target of achieving 60 fps. The architecture was validated on Virtex-5 FPGA based platform. The architecture achieves a frame rate of 64 fps. The architecture is based on multi-level memory hierarchy to reduce latency and ensure optimum resources utilization. It removes redundancy by reusing same functional blocks across different modes. The proposed architecture uses only 13% of the total LUTs available on the Xilinx FPGA XC5VLX50T.

The higher substrate and chiral auxiliary concentration is a pre-requisite to obtain efficient separation of H-1 NMR signals of enantiomers. The higher concentration of chiral lanthanide shift reagents provides broadened spectral lines resulting in a severe loss of resolution between the enantiomer resonances. In order to circumvent such difficulties, herein we present the application and the usefulness of a selective F-1 decoupled correlation (COSY) experiment which yields proton decoupled proton spectra in the indirect dimension. The potentiality of the experiment is demonstrated on several chiral compounds possessing different functional groups, employing either a lanthanide shift reagent or a solvating reagent as chiral auxiliaries. Background: Sobemoviruses are a group of RNA plant viruses that have a narrow host range. They are characterized in vitro by their stability, high thermal inactivation point and longevity. The three-dimensional structure of only one virus belonging to this group, southern bean mosaic virus (SBMV), is known. Structural studies on sesbania mosaic virus (SMV), which is closely related to SBMV, will provide details of the molecular interactions that are likely to be important in the stability and assembly of sobemoviruses. Results: We have determined the three-dimensional structure of SMV at 3 Angstrom resolution. The polypeptide fold and quaternary organization are very similar to those of SBMV. The capsid consists of sixty icosahedral asymmetric units, each comprising three copies of a chemically identical coat protein subunit, which are designated as A, B and C and are in structurally different environments. Four cation-binding sites have been located in the icosahedral asymmetric unit. Of these, the site at the quasi-threefold axis is not found in SBMV. Structural differences are observed in loops and regions close to this cation-binding site. Preliminary studies on ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA) treated crystals suggest asymmetry in removal of the quasi-equivalent cations at the AB, BC, and AC subunit interfaces. Conclusions: Despite the overall similarity between SMV and SBMV in the nature of the polypeptide fold, these viruses show a number of differences in intermolecular interactions. The polar interactions at the quasi-threefold axis are substantially less in SMV and positively charged residues on the RNA-facing side of the protein and in the N-terminal arm are not particularly well conserved. This suggests that protein-RNA interactions are likely to be different between the two viruses.

A framework based on the notion of "conflict-tolerance" was proposed in as a compositional methodology for developing and reasoning about systems that comprise multiple independent controllers. A central notion in this framework is that of a "conflict-tolerant" specification for a controller. In this work we propose a way of defining conflict-tolerant real-time specifications in Metric Interval Temporal Logic (MITL). We call our logic CT-MITL for Conflict-Tolerant MITL. We then give a clock optimal "delay-then-extend" construction for building a timed transition system for monitoring past-MITL formulas. We show how this monitoring transition system can be used to solve the associated verification and synthesis problems for CT-MITL.

Novel designs for two-axis, high-resolution, monolithic inertial sensors are presented in this paper. Monolithic, i.e., joint-less single-piece compliant designs are already common in micromachined inertial sensors such as accelerometers and gyroscopes. Here, compliant mechanisms are used not only to achieve de-coupling between motions along two orthogonal axes but also to amplify the displacements of the proof-mass. Sensitivity and resolution capabilities are enhanced because the amplified motion is used for sensing the measurand. A particular symmetric arrangement of displacement-amplifying compliant mechanisms (DaCMs) leads to de-coupled and amplified motion. An existing DaCM and a new topology-optimized DaCM are presented as a building block in the new arrangement. A spring-mass-lever model is presented as a lumped abstraction of the new arrangement. This model is useful for arriving at the optimal parameters of the DaCM and for performing system-level simulation. The new designs improved the performance by a factor of two or more.
