Analysis and simulation of a-Si Ha-SiC HPINIP structures for color image detection

It is presented in this paper a study on the photo-electronic properties of multi layer a-Si: H/a-SiC: H p-i-n-i-p structures. This study is aimed to give an insight into the internal electrical characteristics of such a structure in thermal equilibrium, under applied Was and under different illumination condition. Taking advantage of this insight it is possible to establish a relation among-the electrical behavior of the structure the structure geometry (i.e. thickness of the light absorbing intrinsic layers and of the internal n-layer) and the composition of the layers (i.e. optical bandgap controlled through percentage of carbon dilution in the a-Si1-xCx: H layers). Showing an optical gain for low incident light power controllable by means of externally applied bias or structure composition, these structures are quite attractive for photo-sensing device applications, like color sensors and large area color image detector. An analysis based on numerical ASCA simulations is presented for describing the behavior of different configurations of the device and compared with experimental measurements (spectral response and current-voltage characteristic). Processos criativos: a importância do olhar

Pesquisas realizadas recentemente salientam o papel desempenhado pelas emoções no cerne dos processos cognitivos e, em particular, na criatividade, entendendo esta não como uma faculdade mas como um processo complexo e dinâmico, dependente de vários fatores intrínsecos e extrínsecos ao sujeito. Paralelamente, a abordagem pedagógica no domínio das artes modificou-se consideravelmente desde os anos 80, desviando a atenção da produção para o processo de conhecimento e o seu conteúdo. Essa alteração levou a uma mudança de paradigma: em vez de se introduzir cegamente os alunos nos detalhes e métodos da produção artística, isolando estes do seu contexto social, procura-se agora despertar neles o olhar estético. Como em Duchamp, tenta-se alcançar uma viragem qualitiva, do objeto para o contexto.

O papel dos estados de espírito no comportamento de compra por impulso

A compra por impulso constitui um tipo de resposta do consumidor a diversos estímulos internos e externos, capaz de gerar sentimentos de pós-compra. De acordo com a literatura da especialidade, um dos preditores deste comportamento de compra, são os estados de espírito, pelo que, no presente trabalho, discute-se o impacto dos mesmos na compra por impulso. Para testar as relações entre compra por impulso, estados de espírito e o efeito nos níveis de satisfação do consumidor, recorreu-se a um método do tipo quantitativo, através da aplicação de um questionário a 253 indivíduos. Desta feita, os resultados obtidos permitiram confirmar duas das hipóteses de trabalho definidas: a compra por impulso ocorre maioritariamente perante estados de espírito positivos e existe correlação positiva entre compra por impulso e a satisfação pós-compra.

Happiness, hope, and affection as predictors of quality of life and functionality of individuals with heart failure at three-month follow-up

The scientific evidence supporting the management of the chronically ill in a positive psychological perspective in opposition to traditional pathological approach is scarce. This study examines issues associated with recovery of health status in heart failure, in particular hope, affection, and happiness. We use a longitudinal study of 128 symptomatic patients who after medical intervention reported improved quality of life and function at 3-month follow-up. We evaluated the contribution of happiness, hope and affection, individually and as a whole, in the quality of life and functionality of individuals with heart failure. Happiness (Subjective Happiness Scale), Hope (HOPE Scale), and affection (PANAS (positive and negative affect schedule)) were determined before medical intervention. Individually, we found that happiness is correlated with the quality of life and functionality, hope to self-efficacy dimension of the quality of life scale, positive affect to functionality and negative affect with symptoms dimension, quality of life dimension, and overall sum of the quality of life scale. Overall, we found that happiness has a unique contribution to the quality of life, except in self-efficacy dimension where hope takes this contribution and positive affect has a unique contribution to the functionality in this short-term follow-up. The results highlight the importance of positive variables to health outcomes for people with heart failure and should be considered in intervention programs for this syndrome.

A checklist for patient safety rounds at the care pathway level

Objective - To define a checklist that can be used to assess the performance of a department and evaluate the implementation of quality management (QM) activities across departments or pathways in acute care hospitals. Design - We developed and tested a checklist for the assessment of QM activities at department level in a cross-sectional study using on-site visits by trained external auditors. Setting and Participants - A sample of 292 hospital departments of 74 acute care hospitals across seven European countries. In every hospital, four departments for the conditions: acute myocardial infarction (AMI), stroke, hip fracture and deliveries participated. Main outcome measures - Four measures of QM activities were evaluated at care pathway level focusing on specialized expertise and responsibility (SER), evidence-based organization of pathways (EBOP), patient safety strategies and clinical review (CR). Results - Participating departments attained mean values on the various scales between 1.2 and 3.7. The theoretical range was 0-4. Three of the four QM measures are identical for the four conditions, whereas one scale (EBOP) has condition-specific items. Correlations showed that every factor was related, but also distinct, and added to the overall picture of QM at pathway level. Conclusion - The newly developed checklist can be used across various types of departments and pathways in acute care hospitals like AMI, deliveries, stroke and hip fracture. The anticipated users of the checklist are internal (e.g. peers within the hospital and hospital executive board) and external auditors (e.g. healthcare inspectorate, professional or patient organizations).
