SOS Mindelo - Aplicação Móvel de Apoio a Serviços de Emergências de Saúde

O Android é um sistema operativo de código fonte aberto desenvolvido com foco principal nos dispositivos móveis. Este trabalho pretende aplicar os recursos disponíveis no Android, nomeadamente os serviços de geolocalização (GPS), API do Google Maps, suporte a dados, entre outros para desenvolver uma aplicação móvel de apoio a serviços de emergências de saúde na cidade do Mindelo denominada de SOS Mindelo. A aplicação SOS Mindelo é uma ferramenta que permite localizar as farmácias, hospitais, clínicas e centros de saúde que estejam mais próximos geograficamente da posição do utilizador no momento da utilização da aplicação. As classes que compõe o código fonte da aplicação foram implementadas com uso da linguagem de programação JAVA enquanto que para as interfaces de utilizador se baseou na linguagem XML. A base de dados foi desenvolvida com recurso às linguagens PHP e MySql e o mesmo se encontra alojado na internet no servidor online Hostinger. Para a interligação entre a base de dados remota e a aplicação instalada no dispositivo do utilizador se recorreu á ferramenta Java Script Object Notation. Para a estimação da distância e a selecção de rotas entre a posição do dispositivo do utilizador e os possíveis destinos se recorreu ao API do Google Maps para além da implementação de um método para o cálculo da distância euclidiana entre dois pontos. Tendo em conta os parcos recursos que caracterizam os dispositivos móveis em termos de poder de processamento, espaço de armazenamento e eficiência energética as imagens, textos e outros recursos são guardados na base de dados online e acessados pelo terminal do utilizador quando necessário. O presente relatório está organizado da seguinte forma: na introdução são descritos os objectivos do desenvolvimento desta aplicação, bem como as vantagens da sua implementação. O primeiro capítulo apresenta a fundamentação teórica e as tecnologias utilizadas para o desenvolvimento da aplicação. O segundo capítulo descreve o processo de desenvolvimento da aplicação, nomeadamente a especificação dos requisitos, a apresentação dos diagramas de casos de usos e de classes, a implementação da base de dados remota, as implementações em código e as correspondentes interfaces de utilizador. Finalmente serão apresentados as conclusões finais do projecto e as perspectivas para trabalhos futuros.

En el presente PFC vamos a estudiar a fondo las wikis semánticas, para tratar de plasmar primeramente el estado del arte de éstas, su aprovechamiento y uso real, más allá de su concepción teórica o prototípica. Posteriormente utilizaremos una de ellas para realizar un ejercicio práctico, cargando una ontología nueva desarrollada para ésta y probando la potencia de las consultas sobre ésta.

Estimating the net contribution of interleukin-28B variation to spontaneous hepatitis C virus clearance.

The identification of associations between interleukin-28B (IL-28B) variants and the spontaneous clearance of hepatitis C virus (HCV) raises the issues of causality and the net contribution of host genetics to the trait. To estimate more precisely the net effect of IL-28B genetic variation on HCV clearance, we optimized genotyping and compared the host contributions in multiple- and single-source cohorts to control for viral and demographic effects. The analysis included individuals with chronic or spontaneously cleared HCV infections from a multiple-source cohort (n = 389) and a single-source cohort (n = 71). We performed detailed genotyping in the coding region of IL-28B and searched for copy number variations to identify the genetic variant or haplotype carrying the strongest association with viral clearance. This analysis was used to compare the effects of IL-28B variation in the two cohorts. Haplotypes characterized by carriage of the major alleles at IL-28B single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were highly overrepresented in individuals with spontaneous clearance versus those with chronic HCV infections (66.1% versus 38.6%, P = 6 × 10(-9) ). The odds ratios for clearance were 2.1 [95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.6-3.0] and 3.9 (95% CI = 1.5-10.2) in the multiple- and single-source cohorts, respectively. Protective haplotypes were in perfect linkage (r(2) = 1.0) with a nonsynonymous coding variant (rs8103142). Copy number variants were not detected. We identified IL-28B haplotypes highly predictive of spontaneous HCV clearance. The high linkage disequilibrium between IL-28B SNPs indicates that association studies need to be complemented by functional experiments to identify single causal variants. The point estimate for the genetic effect was higher in the single-source cohort, which was used to effectively control for viral diversity, sex, and coinfections and, therefore, offered a precise estimate of the net host genetic contribution.

Visualitzador de molècules d'ADN per laboratori virtual

RESUM Com a continuació del treball de final de carrera “Desenvolupament d’un laboratori virtual per a les pràctiques de Biologia Molecular” de Jordi Romero, s’ha realitzat una eina complementaria per a la visualització de molècules integrada en el propi laboratori virtual. Es tracta d’una eina per a la visualització gràfica de gens, ORF, marques i seqüències de restricció de molècules reals o fictícies. El fet de poder treballar amb molècules fictícies és la gran avantatge respecte a les solucions com GENBANK que només permet treballar amb molècules pròpies. Treballar amb molècules fictícies fa que sigui una solució ideal per a l’ensenyament, ja que dóna la possibilitat als professors de realitzar exercicis o demostracions amb molècules reals o dissenyades expressament per a l’exercici a demostrar. A més, permet mostrar de forma visual les diferents parts simultàniament o per separat, de manera que ofereix una primera aproximació interpretació dels resultats. Per altra banda, permet marcar gens, crear marques, localitzar seqüències de restricció i generar els ORF de la molècula que nosaltres creem o modificar una ja existent. Per l’implementació, s’ha continuat amb l’idea de separar la part de codi i la part de disseny en les aplicacions Flash. Per fer-ho, s’ha utilitzat la plataforma de codi lliure Ariware ARPv2.02 que proposa un marc de desenvolupament d’aplicacions Flash orientades a objectes amb el codi (classes ActionScript 2.0) separats del movieclip. Per al processament de dades s’ha fet servir Perl per ser altament utilitzat en Bioinformàtica i per velocitat de càlcul. Les dades generades es guarden en una Base de Dades en MYSQL (de lliure distribució), de la que s’extreuen les dades per generar fitxers XML, fent servir tant PHP com la plataforma AMFPHP com a enllaç entre Flash i la resta de parts.

Normalisation informatique et marchés de services : le cas du XML

Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a generic computing language that provides an outstanding case study of commodification of service standards. The development of this language in the late 1990s marked a shift in computer science as its extensibility let store and share any kind of data. Many office suites software rely on it. The chapter highlights how the largest multinational firms pay special attention to gain a recognised international standard for such a major technological innovation. It argues that standardisation processes affects market structures and can lead to market capture. By examining how a strategic use of standardisation arenas can generate profits, it shows that Microsoft succeeded in making its own technical solution a recognised ISO standard in 2008, while the same arena already adopted two years earlier the open source standard set by IBM and Sun Microsystems. Yet XML standardisation also helped to establish a distinct model of information technology services at the expense of Microsoft monopoly on proprietary software

Se presenta el formato de libro multimedia Daisy que permite integrar texto, sonido, imágenes y vídeo de forma sincronizada y con una navegación avanzada por el texto y el audio que lo hace altamente usable para lecturas en digital. También se presenta su componente principal DTBook xml, disposición estructurada del texto que permite generar formatos alternativos. El artículo detalla las diferencias de Daisy respecto a otros audiolibros, los dispositivos de lectura existentes y su adopción en el mercado y en la enseñanza. Si se abaratan los costes de los aparatos lectores y se soluciona la gestión de derechos digitales, tiene muchas posibilidades de convertirse en estrella para editar libros digitales.

Rat splanchnic net oxygen consumption. Energetic implications

1. The blood flow, PO2, pH and PCO2 have been estimated in portal and suprahepatic veins as well as in hepatic artery of fed and overnight starved rats given an oral glucose load. From these data the net intestinal, hepatic and splanchnic balances for oxygen and bicarbonate were calculated. The oxygen consumption of the intact animal has also been measured under comparable conditions. 2. The direct utilization of oxygen balances as energy equivalents when establishing the contribution of energy metabolism of liver and intestine to the overall energy expenses of the rat, has been found to be incorrect, since it incorporates the intrinsic error of interorgan proton transfer through bicarbonate. Liver and intestine produced high net bicarbonate balances in all situations tested, implying the elimination (by means of oxidative pathways, i.e. consuming additional oxygen) of high amounts of H+ generated with bicarbonate. The equivalence in energy output of the oxygen balances was then corrected for bicarbonate production to 11-54% lower values. 3. Intestine and liver consume a high proportion of available oxygen, about one-half in basal (fed or starved) conditions and about one-third after gavage, the intestine consumption being about 15% in all situations tested and the liver decreasing its oxygen consumption with gavage.

Cortical fast-spiking parvalbumin interneurons enwrapped in the perineuronal net express the metallopeptidases Adamts8, Adamts15 and Neprilysin.

The in situ hybridization Allen Mouse Brain Atlas was mined for proteases expressed in the somatosensory cerebral cortex. Among the 480 genes coding for protease/peptidases, only four were found enriched in cortical interneurons: Reln coding for reelin; Adamts8 and Adamts15 belonging to the class of metzincin proteases involved in reshaping the perineuronal net (PNN) and Mme encoding for Neprilysin, the enzyme degrading amyloid β-peptides. The pattern of expression of metalloproteases (MPs) was analyzed by single-cell reverse transcriptase multiplex PCR after patch clamp and was compared with the expression of 10 canonical interneurons markers and 12 additional genes from the Allen Atlas. Clustering of these genes by K-means algorithm displays five distinct clusters. Among these five clusters, two fast-spiking interneuron clusters expressing the calcium-binding protein Pvalb were identified, one co-expressing Pvalb with Sst (PV-Sst) and another co-expressing Pvalb with three metallopeptidases Adamts8, Adamts15 and Mme (PV-MP). By using Wisteria floribunda agglutinin, a specific marker for PNN, PV-MP interneurons were found surrounded by PNN, whereas the ones expressing Sst, PV-Sst, were not.
