Quality management has become a strategic issue for organisations and is very valuable to produce quality software. However, quality management systems (QMS) are not easy to implement and maintain. The authors' experience shows the benefits of developing a QMS by first formalising it using semantic web ontologies and then putting them into practice through a semantic wiki. The QMS ontology that has been developed captures the core concepts of a traditional QMS and combines them with concepts coming from the MPIu'a development process model, which is geared towards obtaining usable and accessible software products. Then, the ontology semantics is directly put into play by a semantics-aware tool, the Semantic MediaWiki. The developed QMS tool is being used for 2 years by the GRIHO research group, where it has manages almost 50 software development projects taking into account the quality management issues. It has also been externally audited by a quality certification organisation. Its users are very satisfied with their daily work with the tool, which manages all the documents created during project development and also allows them to collaborate, thanks to the wiki features.

Semantic Web applications take off is being slower than expected, at least with respect to “real-world” applications and users. One of the main reasons for this lack of adoption is that most Semantic Web user interfaces are still immature from the usability and accessibility points of view. This is due to the novelty of these technologies, but this also motivates the exploration of alternative interaction paradigms, different from the “traditional” Web or Desktop applications ones. Our proposal is realized in the Rhizomer platform, which explores the possibilities of the object–action interaction paradigm at the Web scale. This paradigm is well suited for heterogeneous resource spaces such as those common in the Semantic Web. Resources, described by metadata, correspond to the objects in the paradigm. Semantic web services, which are dynamically associated to these objects, correspond to the actions. The platform is being put into practice in the context of a research project in order to build an open application for media distribution based on Semantic Web technologies. Moreover, its usability and accessibility have been evaluated in this real setting and compared to similar systems.

En diciembre de 2007, en la Sierra de Loarre (Huesca) observamos signos de Newrobasidion annosum sensu lato asociados a daños de defoliación y mortalidad en una repoblación de Pinus nigra. Se ha identificado la especie biológica de aislamientos recogidos de este patógeno mediante técnicas moleculares, y se ha corroborado mediante cruces con aislamientos homocariontes, que se trata de H. annosum sensu stricto. Esta especie biológica ataca al género Pinus y puede causar daños sobre Pinus nigra.

El camu camu (Myrciaria dubia (H.B.K.) MC VAUGH) es una frutera silvestre conocida mundialmente como un excepcional productor de vitamina C. Su mejoramiento se encuentra en fase inicial. Este trabajo tuvo por objetivos estudiar el sistema reproductivo (taza de autofecundación), el efecto del origen del polen (autofecundación o polinización abierta) en la producción de ácido ascórbico y porcentaje de germinación, la repetibilidad de caracteres productivos y sus implicaciones en el programa de mejoramiento. El sistema reproductivo del camu camu es mixto con variables tazas de autofecundación. No fue confirmada la existencia de efecto del origen del polen para el carácter de producción de ácido ascórbico. La repetibilidad individual de la producción fue de moderada magnitud (0.41); la repetibilidad del promedio de 5 cosechas de fruta fue de 0.77, propiciando exactitud selectiva de 0.88. Genotipos superiores pueden ser seleccionados con precisión y, por lo tanto, cinco a seis cosechas por planta es un número adecuado. La selección y clonación de los diez mejores individuos deberá propiciar una ganancia genética del 237.5 %, elevando la productividad media anual de frutas por planta de 7.75 para 26.17 kg/año.

Cooperatives are the basis of the social economy in many agricultural sectors. The present research work investigates the management situation of the olive oil cooperatives in Catalonia. The study identifies a typology of cooperatives based on their attitudes towards to the sector. A positioning map of the different types of cooperatives is then established on the basis of their characteristics. The study concludes with important managerial aspects of olive oil cooperatives in Catalonia.

The impact, on nitrogen and phosphorous dynamics, of applying compost at different rates was investigated in soils developed on schist in new terraced vineyards (NTV) and in undisturbed areas (NC). Repacked soil columns amended with 0 (control), 50 t ha –1 (T1) and 100 t ha–1 (T2) of compost were studied under laboratory conditions simulating both situations. The columns were maintained for 1 year, during which time a total of 300 mm of simulated rainfall was applied in ten 30 mm applications. Soil organic matter (OM), nitrogen and phosphorous contents were analysed at the end of the study period and leachates were analysed after each simulated rainfall event. Significant differences in nitrate leaching were observed between the control and the treated soils and these differences were greater in the NC (control = 1.368 g, T1 = 1.526 g and T2 = 1.686 g) than in the NTV soils (control = 0.61 g, T1 = = 1.068 g and T2 = 1.283 g). The relative effect was greater in the NTV soils (T1/control = 1.11 vs. 1.75 and T2/control = 1.23 vs. 2.1 for NC and NTV, respectively). The nitrate concentration in the leached water reached up to 400 mg L–1, which implied a risk of groundwater pollution. Phosphorous losses through leaching were very low with concentrations of < 0.15 mg L–1, without any significant differences between treatments. The phosphorous concentrations in the surface horizon increased by 50.8% in T1 and by 66.8% in T2 in the NC soils, compared with increases of 20.3% and 38%, respectively, in the NTV soils. Due to the high infiltration capacity of the study soils, leaching effects must be considered in order to prevent groundwater pollution.

This paper presents the qualitative data collection process aimed at the study of the impactsocial relations and networks have on educational paths of immigrant students. In theframework of a R & D longitudinal study funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation(2012-2014), the research team tracked the path of 87 immigrant students, from whom only 17successfully achieved the transition through the first and second year of Post-16 Education.A vast range of literature notes that relationships are an important part of migration process andsocial integration analysis, as well as school history in terms of success or failure. Through thefieldwork researchers collect the personal networks of all immigrant students from 3 highschools who were at that time attending last course of compulsory school. The network structureinfluences their social capital and therefore determines the resources, goods and types of supportindividuals can access. All these aspects are influential elements in the configuration anddevelopment of academic trajectories of immigrant students.At the end of the second year of Post-16 Education (two years later), the study captures personalnetworks of these students again, analyses and discusses their evolution and influence on theirpaths through qualitative interviews. Such interviews facilitated the discussion of theirrelationships while providing interesting narratives that are presented in the text. In order to do so, the biographical interpretive narrative method of interviewing is implemented.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyse the impact of business exits on future dimensions of entrepreneurial activity at the macroeconomic level. Design/methodology/approach: This research uses the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) data for 41 countries and the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) to carry out the analysis. The paper differentiates the effect of the two components of total entrepreneurial activity, and the two motivations for it – opportunity and necessity entrepreneurship. Findings: The results presented here show a positive and significant effect of the coefficient associated with exits in all models. This means that the levels of entrepreneurial activity exceed business exits. The robustness of the models are tested, including other variables such as the fear of failure, the Gross Domestic Product, role models, entrepreneurial skills and the unemployment variables. The main hypothesis which stated that at national level business exits imply greater rates of opportunity-driven entrepreneurship is corroborated. Originality/value: One would expect that unemployment rates would imply higher levels of necessity entrepreneurship. However, results show that unemployment rates do in fact favour opportunity entrepreneurship levels. This could be due to those government policies that are aimed at promoting entrepreneurship through the capitalization of unemployment to be totally invested in a new start-up. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first panel data study to link previous exit rates to future dimensions of entrepreneurial activity. La investigación de audiencias nació a principios del siglo pasado y comenzó con la radio, pionera como medio de comunicación de masas y precursora de la televisión, cuya aparición, al igual que ocurre hoy día con la televisión digital e Internet, revolucionó en gran medida las costumbres de la población. En este artículo se comenta cómo se mide el consumo televisio (audimetría) así como algunos datos estadísticos acerca de la inversión publicitaria en los distintos medios de comunicación.

La investigación de mercados es una herramienta cada vez más utilizada y necesaria en la gestión de todo tipo de empresas u organizaciones. Se basa en metodologías que utilizan técnicas estadísticas y sus resultados son de gran ayuda para la toma de decisiones empresariales. Desgraciadamente, en ocasiones no se tienen en cuenta determinados aspectos o detalles que pueden inducir a falsas conclusiones, en especial cuando se desconocen los fundamentos teóricos sobre las técnicas más frecuentemente utilizadas. En esta exposición, breve resumen de la ponencia impartida en las “III Jornadas de Comunicación”, se exponen las bases estadísticas de la investigación de mercados aplicada a la investigación de medios, y, en particular, a la investigación de las audiencias de televisión. Es planteja la problemàtica de la manca d'eines per a mesurar el consum i/o audiència dels mitjans de comunicació locals i comarcals.
