This manuscript is a literary history of The Book of Covenant, an encyclopedic work of science, philosophy, and ethics written in the late-eighteenth century by Jewish philosopher and polymath Pinhas Hurwitz. Ruderman explores the reasons for the book's huge popularity--it has been republished in forty editions in the last century--as well as its lasting influence on Jewish and kabbalistic thought, and its important place in Jewish society's confrontation with modernity.

Given the popularity of Korean television dramas among various age groups in other countries, one would expect to see a similar pattern of consumption across different ages in China. Instead, we see high levels of consumption of Korean dramas by a very specific demographic. Why do young Chinese females consume Korean dramas at such high levels? I argue that young Chinese women’s heavy consumption of Korean dramas that portray a particular aesthetic of self and familial resolution may be explained by a need to redress contemporary psychological issues related to gendered self-identity. I posit that the identity formation processes of this particular demographic has been shaped by changes in family dynamics that stem from social and political restructuring in the 1980s, particularly the one-child policy. Thus, this thesis explores how the consumption of Korean dramas by young females in China may be understood as an implicit interrogation of gendered identity.

Marketing communications utilizing a non-profit cause (i.e., the sponsorship of a nonprofit cause) have emerged as a mainstream practice as practitioners respond to rising consumer expectations of corporate social responsibility (CSRI. The increasing popularity of cause-related marketing programs (CRMPS) can be attributed to the Integration of sponsorship in many organizations' sport marketing strategy. The purpose of this study was to examine the attitudes, beliefs, and purchase intentions of consumers exposed to a firm's sponsorship of a sporting event associated with a non-profit organization. A survey instrument was developed by a panel of experts, pre-tested, revised, and completed by (442 event spectators. Results suggested consumers' attitudes, beliefs, and purchase intentions toward the sponsoring company were positively impacted by the firm's involvement with cause-related marketing.

This paper proposes a novel application of fuzzy logic to web data mining for two basic problems of a website: popularity and satisfaction. Popularity means that people will visit the website while satisfaction refers to the usefulness of the site. We will illustrate that the popularity of a website is a fuzzy logic problem. It is an important characteristic of a website in order to survive in Internet commerce. The satisfaction of a website is also a fuzzy logic problem that represents the degree of success in the application of information technology to the business. We propose a framework of fuzzy logic for the representation of these two problems based on web data mining techniques to fuzzify the attributes of a website.

In recent years, acoustic perturbation measurement has gained clinical and research popularity due to the ease of availability of commercial acoustic analysing software packages in the market. However, because the measurement itself depends critically on the accuracy of frequency tracking from the voice signal, researchers argue that perturbation measures are not suitable for analysing dysphonic voice samples, which are aperiodic in nature. This study compares the fundamental frequency, relative amplitude perturbation, shimmer percent and noise-to-harmonic ratio between a group of dysphonic and non-dysphonic subjects. One hundred and twelve dysphonic subjects ( 93 females and 19 males) and 41 non-dysphonic subjects ( 35 females and 6 males) participated in the study. All the 153 voice samples were categorized into type I ( periodic or nearly periodic), type II ( signals with subharmonic frequencies that approach the fundamental frequency) and type III ( aperiodic) signals. Only the type I ( periodic and nearly periodic) voice signals were acoustically analysed for perturbation measures. Results revealed that the dysphonic female group presented significantly lower fundamental frequency, significantly higher relative amplitude perturbation and shimmer percent values than the non-dysphonic female group. However, none of these three perturbation measures were able to differentiate between male dysphonic and male non-dysphonic subjects. The noise-to-harmonic ratio failed to differentiate between the dysphonic and non-dysphonic voices for both gender groups. These results question the sensitivity of acoustic perturbation measures in detecting dysphonia and suggest that contemporary acoustic perturbation measures are not suitable for analysing dysphonic voice signals, which are even nearly periodic. Objectives To find how early experience in clinical and community settings (early experience) affects medical education, and identify strengths and limitations of the available evidence. Design A systematic review rating, by consensus, the strength and importance of outcomes reported in the decade 1992-2001. Data sources Bibliographical databases and journals were searched for publications on the topic, reviewed under the auspices of the recently formed Best Evidence Medical Education (BEME) collaboration. Selection of studies All empirical studies (verifiable, observational data) were included, whatever their design, method, or language of publication. Results Early experience was most commonly provided in community settings, aiming to recruit primary care practitioners for underserved populations. It increased the popularity of primary care residencies, albeit among self selected students. It fostered self awareness and empathic attitudes towards ill people, boosted students' confidence, motivated them, gave them satisfaction, and helped them develop a professional identity. By helping develop interpersonal skills, it made entering clerkships a less stressful experience. Early experience helped students learn about professional roles and responsibilities, healthcare systems, and health needs of a population. It made biomedical, behavioural, and social sciences more relevant and easier to learn. It motivated and rewarded teachers and patients and enriched curriculums. In some countries, junior students provided preventive health care directly to underserved populations. Conclusion Early experience helps medical students learn, helps them develop appropriate attitudes towards their studies and future practice, and orientates medical curriculums towards society's needs. Experimental evidence of its benefit is unlikely to be forthcoming and yet more medical schools are likely to provide it. Effort could usefully be concentrated on evaluating the methods and outcomes of early experience provided within non-experimental research designs, and using that evaluation to improve the quality of curriculums.

In 1946, Tom Kabu returned to the Gulf of Papua determined to reinvent the communities of the Purari Delta. A man of quiet determination, in the first few years he and his followers resisted the assistance of the Australian Administration in Palma and New Guinea. Kabu's popularity in the villages of the Purari, coupled with his independent stance, caused resentment within the local expatriate community. The field staff working for the Department of District Services and Native Affairs especially felt threatened by Kabu's influence and sought to regain government control by opposing his ventures. Through the study of patrol reports written by these officers, this paper seeks to examine the reasons for this resentment and the methods employed by the officers to crush Kabu's company.
