MOOCs, Open educational resources and social networking: bridging the gap between informal and formal learning

MOOCs and open educational resources (OER) provide a wealth of learning opportunities for people around the globe, many of whom have no access to formal higher education. OER are often difficult to locate and are accessed on their own without support from or dialogue with subject experts and peers. This paper looks at whether it is possible to develop effective learning communities around OER and whether these communities can emerge spontaneously and in a self-organised way without moderation. It examines the complex interplay between formal and informal learning, and examines whether MOOCs are the answer to providing effective interaction and dialogue for those wishing to study at university level for free on the Internet.

This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map entitled: Plan of the Botanic Garden and Park as designed by Dr. Schomburgk, compiled and drawn in the office of the Surveyor General by E.P. Laurie from a survey made by Mr. Surveyor J.W. Jones 1874. It was published by Surveyor-General's Office in 1876. Scale [ca. 1:1,584].The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the World Miller Cylindrical projected coordinate system. All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, index maps, legends, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as drainage, roads, paths, fountains, buildings, gardens, lawns, and more. Relief shown by hachures.This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps from the Harvard Map Collection. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features. The selection represents a range of originators, ground condition dates, scales, and map purposes.

Educação em sexualidade em contexto não formal

A educação em sexualidade é atualmente uma prioridade nas escolas que envolve todos os professores e professoras, qualquer que seja a sua área disciplinar. Sabendo que a maioria dos/as docentes tem dificuldade em delinear estratégias para abordar os conteúdos sobre sexualidade que a lei prevê, este projeto de intervenção tem como objetivo principal construir uma atividade em contexto não formal que complemente as estratégias desenvolvidas na escola. A metodologia usada incluiu a validação de três módulos construídos e de materiais didáticos elaborados (jogos e perguntas orientadoras). A “Aula sobre Sexualidade” foi implementada com uma turma do 10º ano. Pelo feedback dado, através de questionários, pelos/as especialistas, professores/as e alunos/as, parece que a atividade constitui um claro contributo na educação em sexualidade, em contexto não formal, como complemento das atividades desenvolvidas na escola, em contexto formal.
