Standard oil company: um reflexo da industrialização americana

A Standard Oil Company foi resultado da forte industrialização que ocorreu nos Estados Unidos após a Guerra de Secessão. Anterior ao conflito, os americanos estavam divididos entre ser tornarem um país exportador de matérias primas ou serem industrializados. Mesmo que ambas as estruturas econômicas foram aplicadas concomitantemente, trazendo recursos financeiros para a Nação, os estados do Norte acabaram vencendo a guerra e incentivaram a expansão industrial. O reflexo desse processo foi notado pelo empresário J.D. Rockefeller que inicia sua empresa baseada na exploração de petróleo, a Standard Oil Company. Utilizando-se de métodos eficientes, inovadores e eficazes, proporcionou um aumento na produção petrolífera de forma exorbitante, podendo manter altos níveis de lucro, mesmo que a preços razoáveis ao consumidor. O impacto da organização industrial e as estratégias encontradas pelo monopólio marcaram profundamente a economia americana. Mesmo sendo um tema de história econômica, no decorrer deste trabalho utilizaremos aspectos sociológicos, biográficos e estatísticos para compreendermos de que forma a Standard Oil Company representa a essência do espírito capitalista da instituição americana

O impacto da adesão aos diferentes níveis de Governança Corporativa para o desempenho econômico e financeiro de um segmento de empresas

The importance of the capital market to Brazilian economic development, linked to the the fragility of a theoretical framework on the issue, case for developing this research. The agents operating in the capital market seek security and confidence for decision making on their investment in that sense we seek to address the concept and values of Corporate Governance to pay in the Brazilian capital market. The Corporate Governance, in its essence, is the system by which companies are directed and monitored, involving the relationship between shareholders and the board of companies, as well as a set of mechanisms and factors intended to minimize market failures. Seeking to confirm adherence to a more advanced system of corporate governance can result in a favorable financial performance, companies were investigated operating in the financial sector (intermediation, various services and insurance), listed by BM&FBOVESPA. The stock market ranks the corporate governance systems in three levels: Level 1 (rudimentary), Level 2 (intermediate) and New Market Level (advanced). To earn the impact of different levels of Corporate Governance for the outcome of the selected companies were calculated and analyzed accounting ratios of profitability, capital structure and liquidity from the Standardized Financial Statements (DFP), base year 2011, 2012 and 2013

The article analyses the possibilities of Geography concepts and categories to contribute to the notion of rural multi-functionality. It points out indications in the social-economic concepts development of small proprieties, emphasizing their relation to tourism. Cálculo e implementação do índice de Desenvolvimento da Gestão Municipal (IDGM) no município de Itabaiana/Se

The scarcity of resources which frequently confronts the State, coupled with demands to provide assistance to a needy population, requires that public administrators formulate efficient and effective policies to pursue its goals. It is fundamental that such policies are based on solid information of existing conditions. As such, the availability of reliable and updated socio-economic indicators is an important tool on which to fundament public policies. The present paper aims to present a Municipal Development Index – Municipal Management Development Index (IDGM) – calculated for the city of Itabaiana/SE, and is divided in two sections. The first discusses the concept of economic development and the evolution of measurement frameworks, with emphasis on the IHD and some of its limitations. The second section describes an estimated IDGM for the city of Itabaiana, as well as its methodology, results, and a brief comparative analysis with four municipalities from the state of São Paulo. Itabaiana’s IDGM reached 849 points (the maximum is 1.000), which infers a good developmental condition.

This work explores the flash mobs, which are flash mobilizations arranged by intent that involve a large number of people to do something together in a pre-arranged place. With the advent of 2.0 Internet, the sharing of information and the mobile virtual communication grown up and showed behavior of an individual person to meet for a common interest. Those affective relationships born in the social networks come to the urban space in a real-virtual space junction and the possibilities of that are unexplored yet. Studied by this work, the Y generation is the flash mob most popular public and uses those mobilizations to reinforce their fan identity and appreciation for a media product

O tema abordado neste trabalho foi escolhido após uma experiência como monitora em um curso de informática para a terceira idade ministrado na Unesp - Câmpus de Rio Claro. The role of the state in health public policies: an overview of the debate on the concept of State and the Brazilian case

This article is the result of a narrative literature review. The objective is to show the development of an overview on the ideological debate on the design of state health policies. We argue that the role of the state in the development of health policy, even under the pressure of the global market, may create alternatives to promote and drive economic and social development, meaning they are not subject to economic constraints imposed by the liberal ideal of market. Here is a part of a theoretical discussion about the construction and presence of the State in Latin America, particularly in Brazil. We take the approaches of the Marxist tradition and liberal to the issue as reference. This discussion allows us to understand the historical role of the state in the maintenance of social policies, specifically health, is an alternative to public control eases the intense capital mobility promoted by economic globalization. In this sense, the theme makes the Brazilian health an important issue of social sciences, why is the historicity of the construction of the Brazilian health system, as a public policy that can mirror the actual reconstruction of the institutional framework of the Brazilian state with the establishment instances of negotiation between the various spheres of power that strengthen the state in this process of democratization of Brazilian society.

Indicadores de desenvolvimento de um país: do PIB ao FIB

O objetivo do presente trabalho consiste em explorar as formas de mensuração do desenvolvimento econômico, surgidas nas últimas décadas, bem como a ampliação dos fatores que o analisam para além de mero crescimento do produto. Assim, é feita uma discussão a respeito do surgimento de índices e indicadores, que passaram a considerar fatores como bem-estar, qualidade de vida e proteção ao meio ambiente, mudando a análise de meramente quantitativa para uma análise qualitativa do desenvolvimento. Além disso, para que se tenha mais clareza a respeito do desenvolvimento, bem como dos indicadores que buscam qualificá-lo, o trabalho busca esclarecer as abordagens de desenvolvimento tradicionais e seus respectivos indicadores - desde o PIB até os alternativos, como o FIB
