Studies show that the disciplines of differential and integral calculus have high failure rates in all schools where they are present and, although this problem has been accentuated in recent years, it is not a local phenomenon. It's observed since 1970s in various Institutions of higher education in Brazil. These studies seek to understand the causes of failures and proposals for teaching methodology that aims to help reduce these rates. However, there is a large contingent of students who are successful at the first time that they perform these disciplines. And these cases, although they have not been studied, can contribute greatly to the understanding the aspects that are related to learning of them. And this understanding can lead to attitudes and learning and teaching methodologies that promote the expansion of this success. The fact that these subjects also have high failure rates in the Degree in Chemistry of this Institute, this study aimed to investigate the factors that were relevant to the cases for approval of the students performed for the first time. For this we constructed a questionnaire containing objective questions and open answers. The objective sought to diagnose the profile of these students with regard to age, gender, basic education (elementary and middle school), study habits, concurrent activities, among others. These questions were analyzed using simple statistics. The open-ended questions asked students to indicate that they attribute the success obtained in the disciplines and to suggest modes of study. These questions were analyzed using thematic categorization, a method of content analysis. This questionnaire was completed, voluntarily and without identification, by students who have passed the first time attended the courses Calculus I and/ or Calculus II and had never started another college prior to this. Percepção do cirurgião-dentista sobre formação profissional e dificuldades de inserção no mercado de trabalho

Introduction: The evaluation of the perception of graduates is an essential strategy to support the political project educational in universities. Objective: This study aimed to verify the perception of dentists which are working in the labor market, about the difficulties of professional insertion after the graduation, positives and negatives aspects and suggestions regarding the training received. Methodology: This is a qualitative survey conducted with graduates of the years 2000 to 2010, of dentistry course from a Brazilian Public University. A self-administered questionnaire was sent by mail/email to all graduates in the period. The data were transcribed and subjected to content analysis, divided into pre-analysis, characterized by carefully reading floating, material exploration, guidelines for finding the analysis itself. Result: The categories related to the difficulties in early life were: getting a job/workplace, adequate working conditions and low pay, insecurity and confrontation obtained the academic and lack of administrative experience. The perceived positive aspects for the training were: good infrastructure and reputation of the university, integrating teaching-research, teacher-student relationship. The negative aspects comprised the following categories: administrative preparation, lack of integration between content theoretical/ practical, concepts used in the labor market. The suggestions presented are consistent with the difficulties to the beginning of professional life and the negative aspects. Conclusion: The professionals have faced the saturation of the labor market and different reality from those found in academic life. Despite the positive aspects, graduates suggest changes in the course conducted.

História e Filosofia da Biologia como ferramenta no ensino de evolução na formação inicial de professores de Biologia

By establishing a relationship among several sections of Biology, the theory of the evolution enables a more systemized and less fragmented education of this science. However, students seem to have difficulties of understanding the concept of biological evolution, by virtue of misunderstanding conceptual and historical data present in textbooks, among other causes. One of these mentioned distortions is the shock between Lamarck and Darwin’s ideas. We aimed, in this work, to investigate the understanding of Biology’s students in pre-service teachers education concerning the Lamarck and Darwin’s theories at different moments of the Evolution discipline. For this, some steps had been followed: 1) Verification of the previous conceptions; 2) Elaboration of a pedagogical material, containing diverse historical texts of primary and secondary sources; 3) Debates in two didactic modules, using the pedagogical material elaborated; 4) Analysis of the conceptions constructed by the students, from the didactic intervention. The results obtained show the preconceptions of the students interviewed, concerning the Lamarck and Darwin’s theories, resemble the explanations presented in textbooks and the insertion of historical texts in the Evolution lessons can be an interesting strategy to construction of knowledge of this theme

This article presents part of a PhD research that investigated what are the limiting factors to be overcome by an initial training program for teachers of physics in order to achieve the identity profile of your proposed course on Pedagogical Project Course (PPC). From the survey of the intended ideal, the actions taken by professors, coordinators and managers seeking its implementation were analyzed. Data were collected from official documents, field notes taken during meetings between professors and interviews with the subjects belonging to the faculty of the course. This is a research in action grounded in Habermas principles. For data analysis, we used analytical devices of discourse analysis, using the French perspective of Pêcheux. The outline presented here seeks to highlight the intentions identified through the analysis of discourses present in the texts, in the speech of different subjects involved and the actions undertaken by them during this process. What one can conclude is that the intentions of the involved professors are permeated of contractions, since in some aspects they intend to give the program teacher's an identity (licenciature) and in other ones they try to maintain the status quo, that means, a teachers program which a bachelor’s profile.

Esferas de sociabilidade na formação dos valores profissionais dos estudantes brasileiros: entre a educação universitária e o mercado de trabalho

A partir de um questionário aplicado a alunos de Jornalismo, a pesquisa visa mapear como esses estudantes se posicionam em relação aos valores formadores da cultura e da ética profissional, bem como avaliar quais são as práticas profissionais consideradas validadas ou não por eles. Foi feito um cruzamento de dados entre os estudantes dos primeiros e dos últimos anos, entre os alunos do sexo feminino e masculino, entre os que já atuam no mercado de trabalho e os que ainda não exercem a atividade profissional e entre os estudantes de diferentes posicionamentos políticos. Isso permitiu observar quais são as mudanças de valores que os estudantes passam ao longo do curso, além de uma medição dos fatores de influência em relação às diversas esferas de sociabilidade. Dentre os cruzamentos, a maior amplitude das diferenças de respostas foi obtida entre alunos que já trabalham e os que ainda não, o que nos leva a repensar o papel da tríade ensino-pesquisa-extensão nas faculdades de Jornalismo.

Diversidade religiosa e formação de professores de ciências: uma discussão em Habermas e um caso no ensino de Física

This article brings a discussion of the implications of religious diversity on science education as well as on teacher education. To orientate our discussion, we adopt as framework the ideas of German philosopher Jürgen Habermas on the political relationship that should govern relations between a naturalistic culture and different religious cultures. We also present a research with future teachers of physics, which aimed at investigating the positions taken by the future teachers towards non scientific models presented by students about the origins of the universe. We tried to identify, especially, the expectation of these future teachers would demonstrated about the contributing of the lifting of such models in class by students. We were able to find that most of them believe that the manifestation of these ideas could bring contributions to the discussion in the classroom. We also found that teaching practices based on communication, questioning and dialogue of the undergraduate course done by the prospective teachers has generated an ownership by the undergraduates of these practices and their potential application in other situations and other discussions, including inter-religious.
