Evaluación de la contaminación y calidad microbiológica del agua de mar en las Bahías de Ferrol y Samanco. 12 - 15 febrero 1996

Da a conocer los efectos de la contaminación a partir de la calidad microbiológica, concentraciones de DBO5 y el estado del bentos en las bahías de Ferrol y Samanco en el mes de febrero del año 1996. Asimismo, verifica la recuperación del ecosistema marino, con la aplicación de los programas de mitigación establecidos por el sector pesquero para la protección del medio ambiente en esta zona afectada principalmente por los efluentes industriales. Las observaciones se realizaron de 12 al 15 de febrero de 1996, en época de anchoveta y sardina.

c-Myc acts downstream of IL-15 in the regulation of memory CD8 T-cell homeostasis.

A subset of CD8 T cells in normal mice, expressing high levels of activation markers such as CD44, shares many properties with antigen-specific memory CD8 T cells. Homeostasis of CD44(high) CD8 T cells depends upon cytokines such as interleukin-15 (IL-15); however, the downstream signaling pathways regulating IL-15-dependent homeostatic proliferation are poorly defined. Surprisingly, we show here that haploinsufficiency of the protooncogene c-myc leads to a highly selective decrease in CD44(high) CD8 T cells in mice. Although steady-state proliferation and survival of CD44(high) CD8 T cells appeared not to be dependent on c-Myc, homeostatic proliferation of c-myc(+/-) CD44(high) CD8 T cells in lymphopenic hosts was strongly reduced, and the residual homeostatic proliferation of these cells appeared to occur independently of IL-15. Moreover, c-myc(+/-) CD44(high) CD8 T cells responded very poorly to purified IL-15 in vitro. Backcrossing of c-myc(+/-) mice to IL-15(-/-) mice revealed that the number of CD44(high) CD8 T cells decreased in an additive fashion in mice heterozygous for c-myc and IL-15. Finally homeostatic proliferation of antigen-specific memory CD44(high) CD8 T cells was also impaired in c-myc(+/-) mice. Collectively, our data identify c-Myc as a novel downstream component of the IL-15-dependent pathway controlling homeostatic proliferation of memory CD44(high) CD8 T cells.

Phenology of Spalangia endius Walker (Hymenoptera, Pteromalidae) in pupae of Musca domestica Linnaeus (Diptera, Muscidae) under laboratory conditions

This work describes the phenology of Spalangia endius Walker in pupae of Musca domestica Linnaeus under laboratory conditions. In order to understand the developmental cycle of Spalangia endius under laboratory conditions, 360 Musca domestica pupae aged from 24 to 48 hours were exposed to 15 S. endius pairs for a period of 24 hours at 26 ± 2ºC. These pupae were kept in a BOD incubator at the same temperature, with a relative humidity of <70%, and 12 hours photophase. Fifteen hymenopteran specimens were dissected daily to evaluate their stage and development time. The phenology concluded that S. endius had a development cycle of 19 days with an incubation period of 24 hours. The development of the larvae of S. endius occurred in the subsequent eight days, during which a series of morphological alterations were observed. The pre-pupal stage occurred on the tenth day, where the movement ceased and elimination of the meconium started. The pupal stage occurred from the 11th to the 19th day, with emergence of males first, followed by female emergence approximately 24 hours later. These results allowed the evaluation of aspects of the detailed bionomics of the development of S. endius in order to record and program production of this parasitoid, thus optimizing its utilization as a biological control agent.

Report and Recommendations of the Iowa Vertical Infrastructure Advisory Committee, December 15, 2008

This report summaries the work of the committee over the last year and its vision for the future. The committee is followed with interest the work of the Department of Corrections and the Department of Veterans Affairs in evaluating the needs of their facilities and recommends similar evaluations of facilities around the state by other agencies. The committee members are ready to offer advice on the needs of the state's again infrastructure and steps that could be taken to evaluate vacant and underutilized buildings and reduce operational and maintenance costs.

Expone los resultados de la Operación Eureka XXXII, realizado a fin de obtener información sobre el reclutamiento 1975, así como otros aspectos biológicos y de medio ambiente, que como parte del sistema de monitoreo del recurso anchoveta realizó el Instituto del Mar del Perú.

Operación Búsqueda de Peces Reclutas (14-15 Noviembre 1974)

Expone los resultados de la operación realizada durante los días 14 y 15 de noviembre en la que participaron 31 bolicheras que exploraron la costa entre 4° y 18°L.S, con el fin de determinar la distribución y concentración de los peces reclutas provenientes del desove de invierno-primavera 1974 para efectuar así un estimado de su abundancia.
