There is a tendency to overlook the many fields that attracted Salvador Dalí, one of the most controversial figures of the 20th century. The Catalan artist was interested in painting, sculpture, engraving, opera, literature, advertising, dance, and even the theatre of life. Dalí was also a theoretician, constantly examining the processes of creation and knowledge: over the years he developed an imagery which, though changing, remained coherent, giving his body of work an unexpected unity.

Tässä opinnäytetyössä tutkimuskohteeksi muodostui The Meters -yhtyeen rumpalin Joseph ”Zigaboo” Modelisten soittotyyli. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli analysoida Zigaboon soittotyyliä seuraavista näkökulmista: fraseeraus, synkopointi, claven vaikutus Zigaboon kompeissa ja virvelirummun käyttö. Olen kirjoittanut 8 kpl transkriptioita sellaisista Zigaboon soittamista kompeista, joista tulee selvästi esille New Orleans funkin tyylillisiä piirteitä ja jotka tukevat tutkimukseni tavoitteita. Kappaleiden valintaperusteena oli myös se, että kyseisiä kappaleita ja komppeja on mielestäni erityisen mukavaa soittaa. Ääninäytteet analysoitavista kompeista ovat työn mukana olevalla liiteäänitteellä. Kerron tutkimuksessani lyhyesti New Orleans funkin historiasta ja siitä, miten eri kulttuurien ja sitä kautta eri musiikkikulttuurien yhteensulautuminen on vaikuttanut New Orleansin rikkaan musiikkikulttuurin muodostumiseen. The Meters -yhtyeen historiasta 60-luvun lopulta 70-luvun loppuun, olen maininnut keskeisimmät vaiheet. Pohdin myös onko The Meters -yhtyeen musiikki vaikuttanut tämän päivän hip hop ja R&B -musiikkityyleihin.

The second half of eighteenth century is marked by the advancement of chemistry and geology. The first science acquired the law of conservation of mass and this science represented a important support to geology and mineralogy. We say that both became modern science that time. Our aim is to show up some interrelations between history of chemistry and history of geology by means of the study of Joseph Black's and James Hutton's works. We defend that it is positive to science education to understand and approach the relations among different and disciplinary areas of science.

This first of two papers allusive to the 200th birthday of Justus von Liebig (1803-1873) deals with the origins, life, education, ideas and influence of one of the great 19th century chemists. The principal characteristics of his "Giessen model of teaching research in chemistry" are presented, as well as the role played by many of his students in the evolution of chemical research in various countries. Liebig's strong personality, his controversies, his contribution to the chemical scene in Giessen and Munich are presented. Although few, the connections with Latin-American chemistry are focused.
