Nowadays, broadcast environments, manage an extensive amount of signals from several sources, using differents standards: SD-SDI, HD-SDI, 3G, DVBASI, modulated L band signals. In most of the broadcast infraestructures, it´s usually needed, at any of the transmissions steps, to replicate the source signal to many destinations. This PFC is intended to shown the main systems used to distribute and replicate signals in broadcast environments. Distributive Systems are used to distribute and replicate the source signals to as many destinations as are needed. The main idea behind the design of those systems is to preserve the integrity of the original signal, due to replications or division classical pathologies. Even it is recomendad that those systems are able to regenerate the original signal, trying to avoid or compesate those pathologies. The PFC is divided in three chapters: - Chapter 1: Theorical concepts: In this chapter is presented the minimal theory needed to understand the complex of the tecnology, for those distributive systems. - Chapter 2: Distribution of SDI and ASI signals: It is shown the main systems used to replicate and distribution of the SDI and ASI signals. It will also treatment the state of the art of the actually new systems. - Chapter 3: Distribution of L band signals. It will be shown the main systems used for L band signals At the end of reading this PFC, the reader must known the main systems used for distribution SDI and ASI signals, also L band signals. It is important to understand the contents of the PFC, the systems, the several problems and the background tecnology that is needed to afront the replication known patologies.

The bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas syringae pv tomato DC3000 suppresses plant innate immunity with effector proteins injected by a type III secretion system (T3SS). The cysteine protease effector HopN1, which reduces the ability of DC3000 to elicit programmed cell death in non-host tobacco, was found to also suppress the production of defence-associated reactive oxygen species (ROS) and callose when delivered by Pseudomonas fluorescens heterologously expressing a P. syringae T3SS. Purified His 6 -tagged HopN1 was used to identify tomato PsbQ, a member of the oxygen evolving complex of photosystem II (PSII), as an interacting protein. HopN1 localized to chloroplasts and both degraded PsbQ and inhibited PSII activity in chloroplast preparations, whereas a HopN1 D299A non-catalytic mutant lost these abilities. Gene silencing of NtPsbQ in tobacco compromised ROS production and programmed cell death.

ABSTRACT. Nowadays, the way of automating different tasks done by manned vehicles is studied. These tasks are any case very expensive, due to large fuel consumption, costs of aircraft buying, without taking into account the risk for human crew. As an example of these tasks, we can include policing or border surveillance, maintenance of high voltage lines, early warning of forest fire and measuring of pollution parameters. The target of this project is the design and construction of an embedded electronic prototype, based on a microcontroller with C8051 core from Silicon labs, and it will be able to controlling an aircraft transparently, in order that in the future the flying model could be changed with the modification of some parameters, and video or any variables detection systems could be added. The prototype will follow a designed and transferred path as an plain text file with a given format, that will contain all the necessary data for GPS navigation. Working with heat engine models (internal combustion engine, glow type, in this case) becomes dangerous due to the large energy that can be able to acquire. In order to keep the maximum safety level during the project evolution a three independent stages process have been designed, this allows familiarizing properly with the parts that will be used. The stages are as follows: 1. Test and modeling of all of the parts by little assemblies with through-hole protoboard and stand alone programs. It will be done with a multipurpose card which contains a microcontroller of similar characteristics, although less complex, of the final prototype. 2. Integrating of all of parts through a dedicated design card that will serve as interface between multipurpose card and all the necessary hardware for controlling a ground vehicle with the same characteristics (actuators and engine) of the flying model. 3. Embedded system designing that contains all the developed subsystems in the previous stages and integrates all the necessary parts for controlling a fixed-wing aircraft.

ABSTRACT This doctoral thesis has a constructive historical material approach to the reality of the fortifications built in the center of the Iberian Peninsula during the first centuries of the middle Ages. The geographical framework extends from the Duero´s riverbed, bounded by the valleys of its tributaries, the Duratón on the west, and the Escalote on the east, until to the peaks of the eastern Central System at its connection with the Iberian, to descend the hillside of the mountain range to the high valleys of Lozoya, Jarama and Henares. Following the current demarcations under this framework study, partially cover the provinces of Soria, Guadalajara, Madrid, Segovia, Burgos and Valladolid. From a chronological point of view, the temporal space began with the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula in 711 A.D and ends with the final incorporation into the Kingdom of Castile in the studied areas, around the year 1150 A.D. It is a transitional gathering point, both socially and ecologically. The southern territories of the Sierra or mountain range corresponded to the northern boundaries of the Middle mark of al- Andalus , while the northern missing, the extrema Durii , were a disorganized sparsely populated territory and point of the expansion of the kingdoms of Leon and Castile and zone of conflict with al- Andalus at the beginning of the tenth century. Such a wide and diverse territory, connected with a complex historical, social evolution and the lack of written sources , has required an approach with a mixed type methodology, which have converged the techniques of historical documentation of the archeology and building history. This methodology comes from a comprehensive bibliographic study, after which an archaeological survey was directed that allowed building a fortified elements ‘catalog in the study area likely to contain high medieval period phases were raised. On each of the elements located one metric data collection and constructive graphic type was performed. Checking against the data collected in each building with its own history of stratigraphy and construction techniques and finally, they were identified and isolated the timing analysis phases. Among the early medieval fortifications that showed high period Medieval phases and according to its uniqueness , representativeness and stratigraphy’s quality of the nine case studies : the fortified complex of Atienza, Cogolludo Castle, the Buitrago de Lozoya´s walled enclosure , the Caracena´s castle , the Mezquetillas´ parish church, the Gormaz´s fortress, the San Andres toser in Sepulveda, the church of San Miguel de Ayllón and the Alcolea de las Peñas´ rock fortress. This research study has served two main purposes. The first focuses on the material side. In this sense it does not only identified the presence or absence of early medieval period phases in each one of the building, which has allowed a territorial reading and the characterization of the different construction techniques and materials, but it also assess the possibility of establishing a chrono–typology. The second focuses on historical and social aspects. The bound of these materials remains with the historical documentation has become a means to know the history of the people who built these buildings, the motivation that led them to undertake such projects as well as the context in which each of these fortifications played the functions for which it was created. This study has revealed the breach that led to the state occupation of the Cordovan army in this area by since mid-tenth century, from the social point of view and also from the structural one. It has been materially document this occupation after the restoration of Medinaceli, around 946, and succeeded after taking Sepulveda by Almanzor in 984, clearly differentiating their own building techniques currently implemented directly by foreign workshops, from Cordova and Toledo. The stratigraphic position of these factories has made it possible to identify earlier and later construction phases at this time. It has also been able to verify the initial hypothesis in relation with constructive knowledge loss during late antiquity and early medieval centuries in the studied area. Also ashlar, masonries as well as the brick production is recovered without resorting to a local technological substrate, fleetingly brought about by the Caliphate occupation. When the dismemberment of the Caliphate is produced from the year 1010 these techniques were abandoned again. In the late eleventh and early twelfth century these techniques are recovered from Romanesque and a new change came, also from the establishment of the diocesan parish network. In one historical period that has been hardly exploited by research, this thesis seeks not only to establish a working methodology but lay the groundwork for future studies, both from the particular point of view, paying special attention in the constructive and stratigraphic studies of each of the evidence collected , and additionally in other more transversal aspects.

ABSTRACT The thesis ≪Peter Celsing in the complex of Sergels torg. The House of Culture in Stockholm ≫ delves deeper into the work of this author, in his connections with other architectures and architects of his physical and temporal surroundings, which is one of the most interesting and least known episodes of Nordic architecture. The particular focus of this study is how the House of Culture, a key point within the complex of Sergels torg, marks a before and after in his career. There is an observable process of constant development, which was growing steadily, and reaches its critical point in this exercise. In addition, the projects that coexisted during his evolution and those that came before, reveal latent concerns leading up to the biggest challenge he would face, ultimately giving way to new developments in his work. The study is divided into three chapters. The first, ≪Learning≫, examines his experiences as a youth, academic trips and lessons from his masters; as well as his professional beginnings alongside Lewerentz in the restoration project of Uppsala Cathedral and his churches. In that period the formal and sculptural were given preference, also concrete and handmade brick. And as reference, there is Le Corbusier and the chapel at Ronchamp. The second chapter, ≪Work≫, studies the competition that gives rise to the House of Culture, the gestation process and design and subsequent amendments during its construction. Suddenly the spatial qualities and structural systems learned from Mies in Crown Hall of Chicago emerge, the large scale of the metropolis and light industrial solutions. The third chapter, ≪Maturity≫, serves as the closure and examines his subsequent career in relation to said work. After this building, the design of coetaneous proposals become more abstract and simple, gaining autonomy, firmness, boldness and character. The conclusions verify the change in attitudes and paradigms. There are elements such as distortions, contrasts and manipulations, learned in his early years of training and with Lewerentz, that have now undeniably increased in proportion to the scale of their involvement and can even be observed in detail, as so happens in the joining of materials and assembly. His vision, his point of view is heightened, and the piece adopts a single and compact volume. Each new work synthesizes a more universal and open focus in concepts and operational methodology. His concerns speak of an architect aware of his time and whose final architecture now looks toward the 21st century.

Gluten is the main structural protein complex of wheat with equivalent toxic proteins found in other cereals (rye, barley, and oats) which are responsible for different immunologic responses with different clinical expressions of disease. The spectrum of gluten-related disorders has been classified according to pathogenic, clinical, and epidemiological differences in three main forms: (i) wheat allergy (WA), an IgE-mediated disease; (ii) autoimmune disease, including celiac disease (CD), dermatitis herpetiformis, and gluten ataxia; and (iii) possibly immune-mediated, gluten sensitivity [1]. WA is an immunologic Th2 response with typical manifestations which can vary from dermatological, respiratory, and/or intestinal to anaphylactic reactions. In contrast, CD is an autoimmune disorder, a gliadin-specific T-cell response which is enhanced by the action of intestinal tissue transglutaminase (tTG), with a wide clinical spectrum including symptomatic cases with either intestinal (e.g., chronic diarrhea, weight loss) or extraintestinal features (e.g., anemia, osteoporosis, neurologic disturbances) and silent forms that are occasionally discovered as a result of serological screening [1]. We studied wheat allergy in two children with early diagnosis of CD, who developed immediate allergic symptoms after eating small amounts of wheat flour.

The proton-translocating NADH-quinone oxidoreductase (EC 1.6.99.3) is the largest and least understood enzyme complex of the respiratory chain. The mammalian mitochondrial enzyme (also called complex I) contains more than 40 subunits, whereas its structurally simpler bacterial counterpart (NDH-1) in Paracoccus denitrificans and Thermus thermophilus HB-8 consists of 14 subunits. A major unsolved question is the location and mechanism of the terminal electron transfer step from iron–sulfur cluster N2 to quinone. Potent inhibitors acting at this key region are candidate photoaffinity probes to dissect NADH-quinone oxidoreductases. Complex I and NDH-1 are very sensitive to inhibition by a variety of structurally diverse toxicants, including rotenone, piericidin A, bullatacin, and pyridaben. We designed (trifluoromethyl)diazirinyl[3H]pyridaben ([3H]TDP) as our photoaffinity ligand because it combines outstanding inhibitor potency, a suitable photoreactive group, and tritium at high specific activity. Photoaffinity labeling of mitochondrial electron transport particles was specific and saturable. Isolation, protein sequencing, and immunoprecipitation identified the high-affinity specifically labeled 23-kDa subunit as PSST of complex I. Immunoprecipitation of labeled membranes of P. denitrificans and T. thermophilus established photoaffinity labeling of the equivalent bacterial NQO6. Competitive binding and enzyme inhibition studies showed that photoaffinity labeling of the specific high-affinity binding site of PSST is exceptionally sensitive to each of the high-potency inhibitors mentioned above. These findings establish that the homologous PSST of mitochondria and NQO6 of bacteria have a conserved inhibitor-binding site and that this subunit plays a key role in electron transfer by functionally coupling iron–sulfur cluster N2 to quinone.

The crystal structure at 2.0-Å resolution of the complex of the Escherichia coli chemotaxis response regulator CheY and the phosphoacceptor-binding domain (P2) of the kinase CheA is presented. The binding interface involves the fourth and fifth helices and fifth β-strand of CheY and both helices of P2. Surprisingly, the two heterodimers in the asymmetric unit have two different binding modes involving the same interface, suggesting some flexibility in the binding regions. Significant conformational changes have occurred in CheY compared with previously determined unbound structures. The active site of CheY is exposed by the binding of the kinase domain, possibly to enhance phosphotransfer from CheA to CheY. The conformational changes upon complex formation as well as the observation that there are two different binding modes suggest that the plasticity of CheY is an essential feature of response regulator function.

ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels in the pancreatic β cell membrane mediate insulin release in response to elevation of plasma glucose levels. They are open at rest but close in response to glucose metabolism, producing a depolarization that stimulates Ca2+ influx and exocytosis. Metabolic regulation of KATP channel activity currently is believed to be mediated by changes in the intracellular concentrations of ATP and MgADP, which inhibit and activate the channel, respectively. The β cell KATP channel is a complex of four Kir6.2 pore-forming subunits and four SUR1 regulatory subunits: Kir6.2 mediates channel inhibition by ATP, whereas the potentiatory action of MgADP involves the nucleotide-binding domains (NBDs) of SUR1. We show here that MgATP (like MgADP) is able to stimulate KATP channel activity, but that this effect normally is masked by the potent inhibitory effect of the nucleotide. Mg2+ caused an apparent reduction in the inhibitory action of ATP on wild-type KATP channels, and MgATP actually activated KATP channels containing a mutation in the Kir6.2 subunit that impairs nucleotide inhibition (R50G). Both of these effects were abolished when mutations were made in the NBDs of SUR1 that are predicted to abolish MgATP binding and/or hydrolysis (D853N, D1505N, K719A, or K1384M). These results suggest that, like MgADP, MgATP stimulates KATP channel activity by interaction with the NBDs of SUR1. Further support for this idea is that the ATP sensitivity of a truncated form of Kir6.2, which shows functional expression in the absence of SUR1, is unaffected by Mg2+.

Traditionally, the structure and properties of natural products have been determined by total synthesis and comparison with authentic samples. We have now applied this procedure to the first nonproteinaceous ion channel, isolated from bacterial plasma membranes, and consisting of a complex of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) and calcium polyphosphate. To this end, we have now synthesized the 128-mer of hydroxybutanoic acid and prepared a complex with inorganic calcium polyphosphate (average 65-mer), which was incorporated into a planar lipid bilayer of synthetic phospholipids. We herewith present data that demonstrate unambiguously that the completely synthetic complex forms channels that are indistinguishable in their voltage-dependent conductance, in their selectivity for divalent cations, and in their blocking behavior (by La3+) from channels isolated from Escherichia coli. The implications of our finding for prebiotic chemistry, biochemistry, and biology are discussed.

Activation of the cascade of proteolytic caspases has been identified as the final common pathway of apoptosis in diverse biological systems. We have isolated a gene, termed MRIT, that possesses overall sequence homology to FLICE (MACH), a large prodomain caspase that links the aggregated complex of the death domain receptors of the tumor necrosis factor receptor family to downstream caspases. However, unlike FLICE, the C-terminal domain of MRIT lacks the caspase catalytic consensus sequence QAC(R/Q)G. Nonetheless MRIT activates caspase-dependent death. Using yeast two-hybrid assays, we demonstrate that MRIT associates with caspases possessing large and small prodomains (FLICE, and CPP32/YAMA), as well as with the adaptor molecule FADD. In addition, MRIT simultaneously and independently interacts with BclXL and FLICE in mammalian cells. Thus, MRIT is a mammalian protein that interacts simultaneously with both caspases and a Bcl-2 family member.

The x-ray structure of a complex of sialic acid (Neu5Ac) with neuraminidase N9 subtype from A/tern/Australia/G70C/75 influenza virus at 4°C has revealed the location of a second Neu5Ac binding site on the surface of the enzyme. At 18°C, only the enzyme active site contains bound Neu5Ac. Neu5Ac binds in the second site in the chair conformation in a similar way to which it binds to hemagglutinin. The residues that interact with Neu5Ac at this second site are mostly conserved in avian strains, but not in human and swine strains, indicating that it has some as-yet-unknown biological function in birds.
