Preparation of 1-acyl-2-succinyl glycero-3-phosphorylcholine and evidence against its involvement in succinate dehydrogenase action

1-Acyl-2-succinyl glycero-3-phosphorylcholine (GPC) was synthesized and its properties described. Although 1-acyl-2-succinyl GPC is a good substrate for succinate dehydrogenase, experiments on the incorporation of [2,3-14C]succinate into mitochondrial lipids gave no evidence to indicate that it is an intermediate in the enzymic oxidation of succinate to fumarate, as has been suggested earlier.

Complexes of lanthanide iodides with 3-methylpyridine-1-oxide

Complexes of lanthanide iodides with 3-methylpyridine-1-oxide of the formula Ln(3-MePyO)8I3.xH2O where x = 0 for Ln = La and Tb, x = 1 for Ln = Pr, and x = 2 for Ln = Nd, Sm, Dy, Yb, and Y have been prepared and characterized by chemical analyses, conductance, infrared, proton nmr, and DTA data. Infrared and proton nmr data have been interpreted in terms of the coordination of the ligand to the metal ion through the oxygen of the N—O group. Proton nmr spectrum of the Yb(III) complex is indicative of a restricted rotation of the pyridine ring about the N—O bond.

Equivalent rate 1/2 quasi-cyclic codes

Chen et al. [1] give a list of quasi-cyclic (2m,m) codes which have the largest minimum distance of any quasi-cyclic code, for various values ofm. We present the weight distribution of these codes. It will be seen that many of the codes found by Chen et al. [1] are equivalent in the sense of having identical weight distributions.

Molecular complexes of macrocyclic polyethers with 1, 3, 5-trinitrobenzene

The interaction of six macrocyclic polyethers with 1, 3, 5-trinitrobenzene has been studied by spectroscopic methods. The association constants have been evaluated by1HMR chemical shift method. There is evidence that major contribution to the interaction isvia n andπ electrons. The donor strengths of the polyethers have been evaluated.

IR spectral data have been interpreted in terms of the coordination of the ligand to the metal through the oxygen of the N–O group. Conductance and IR spectral data show that all the nitrate groups are bidentate and that two of the nitrate groups are bound to the metal in a different manner than the other.

CXCL10, CXCL11, HLA-A and IL-1β are induced in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from women withChlamydia trachomatisrelated infertility

Chlamydia trachomatis infections can result in the development of serious sequelae such as pelvic inflammatory disease and tubal infertility. In this study, peripheral blood mononuclear cells from women who were undergoing or had recently undergone IVF treatment were cultured ex vivo with C. trachomatis to identify the immune responses associated with women who had serological evidence of a history of Chlamydia infection. Cytokines secreted into the supernatant from the cultures were measured using ELISA, and the level of IL-1β was found to be significantly higher in Chlamydia positive women than Chlamydia negative women. qRT-PCR analysis of the expression of 88 immune-related genes showed trends towards an upregulation of CXCL10, CXCL11 and HLA-A in Chlamydia positive women compared with Chlamydia negative women. These findings support that some women launch a more marked proinflammatory response upon infection with C. trachomatis and this may be associated with why C. trachomatis induces infertility in some infected women.

Long-term use of custom-made orthopedic shoes: A 1.5-year follow-up study

This study investigated long-term use of custom-made orthopedic shoes (OS) at 1.5 years follow-up. In addition, the association between short-term outcomes and long-term use was studied. Patients from a previously published study who did use their first-ever pair of OS 3 months after delivery received another questionnaire after 1.5 years. Patients with different pathologies were included in the study (n = 269, response = 86%). Mean age was 63 ± 14 years, and 38% were male. After 1.5 years, 87% of the patients still used their OS (78% frequently [4-7 days/week] and 90% occasionally [1-3 days/week]) and 13% of the patients had ceased using their OS. Patients who were using their OS frequently after 1.5 years had significantly higher scores for 8 of 10 short-term usability outcomes (p-values ranged from <0.001 to 0.046). The largest differences between users and nonusers were found for scores on the short-term outcomes of OS fit and communication with the medical specialist and shoe technician (effect size range = 0.16 to 0.46). We conclude that patients with worse short-term usability outcomes for their OS are more likely to use their OS only occasionally or not at all at long-term follow-up.

Autuus on katsojan silmässä: lukijakeskeinen tutkimus autuaaksijulistuksista Matt. 5 : 1-12 on reseptioanalyyttisellä metodilla tehty tutkimus siitä, miten akateeminen tutkimuskirjallisuus ja kymmenen valikoitua Jeesus-elokuvaa ovat ymmärtäneet autuaaksijulistusten merkityksen. Kartoitettuaan autuaaksijulistusten tulkintahistoriaa ja Jeesus-elokuvien kulttuurihistoriaa tutkielma kääntyy reseptiohistorialliseksi analyysiksi. Akateemisen tutkimuskirjallisuuden ja Jeesus-elokuvien esittämät tulkinnat Matteuksen evankeliumin autuaaksijulistuksista rinnas-tetaan suhteessa autuaaksijulistusten tyyliin, sisältöön, rakenteeseen ja merkitykseen. Autuaaksijulistusten tyylin tulkinnan analysointi tapahtuu vertailemalla millainen narratiivinen sijainti autuaaksijulistuksille on tarinassa annettu, millaiseksi elokuvat ja tutkimuskirjallisuus tulkitsevat julistusten esitykselliset puitteet sekä mitä näkemyksiä niillä on julistusten kohdeyleisöstä ja Jeesuksen esiintymistavasta. Autuaaksijulistusten sisällön analysointi tarkoittaa yksittäisten autuaaksijulistusten merkityksen selvittelyä. Tämä tapahtuu edelleen Jeesus-elokuvien ja tutkimuskirjallisuuden tekemiä tulkintoja vertailemalla. Näiden lisäksi tekijä esittää oman käännöksensä autuaaksijulistuksista eksegeettisen analyysin keinoin. Käännöksen tavoitteena ei kuitenkaan ole sanatarkkuus, vaan dynaamisuus lukijan tulkinnan säilyttämiseksi. Autuaaksijulistusten rakenteen analysointi esittelee muutamia erilaisia malleja, joiden mukaan tutkimuskirjallisuudessa Matteuksen evankeliumin autuaaksijulistuksia on ryhmitelty. Tässä alaluvussa elokuva-aineiston ja tutkimuskirjallisuuden erot ovat selkeimmin näkyvillä, sillä elokuvat pyrkivät ryhmittelyn sijasta luomaan autuaaksijulistuksille kokonaan uuden rakenteen, joka sopii elokuvakerrontaan julistuslistaa paremmin. Autuaaksijulistusten merkitystä analysoitaessa tutkielmassa asetetaan rinnan kolme Jeesus-elokuvaa, jotka edustavat tulkintahistoriasta tuttuja tulkinnallisia pääsuuntia: autuaaksijulistukset tulkitaan joko eettisiksi kehotuksiksi tai lupauksiksi armosta. Kolmas Jeesus-elokuva edustaa kontroversiaalista näkemystä, joka kiistää molemmat edellä mainitut tulkintatavat. Johtopäätöksissä osoitetaan reseptiohistorialliseen analyysiin viitaten, että tulkintojen muotoutuminen ei ole yksinkertaista. Structural studies of analgesics and their interactions. II. The crystal structure of a 1:1 complex between antipyrine and salicyclic acid (salipyrine)

The complex crystallizes in the space group P21/c with four formula units in a unit cell of dimensions a= 12.747, b= 7.416, c= 17.894 A and/3= 90.2 °. The structure has been solved by the symbolic addition procedure using three-dimensional photographic data and refined to an R value of 0.079 for 2019 observed reflexions. The pyramidal nature of the two hetero nitrogen atoms in the antipyrine molecule is inter:nediate between that observed in free antipyrine and in some of its metal complexes. The molecule is more polar than that in crystals of free antipyrine but less so compared with that in metal complexes. In the salicylic acid molecule, the hydroxyl group forms an internal hydrogen bond with one of the oxygen atoms in the carboxyl group. The association between the salicylic acid and the antipyrine molecules is achieved through an intermolecular hydrogen bond with the other carboxyl oxygen atom in the salicylic acid molecule as the proton donor and the carboxyl oxygen atom of the antipyrine molecule as the acceptor.

Pyridine-1-oxide complexes of lanthanide iodides of the formulaLn(PyO)8I3 whereLn=La, Pr, Nd, Tb, Dy, Er, and Yb have been prepared and characterised by analyses, molecular weight, conductance, infrared and proton NMR data. Proton NMR and IR data have shown the coordination of the ligand to the metal through the oxygen atom of the N–O group. NMR data have been interpreted in terms of a distorted square antiprismatic geometry in solution.

Thermodynamic properties of toluene-1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane

Data on heats of mixing at 298.15 and 308.15 K, vaporliquid equilibria, latent heats of vaporization at 686 mmHg, and vapor pressures for the system toluene-1,1,2,2- tetrachloroethane are presented. The effect of alkyl substitution on heats of mixing is discussed.
