Synchronous machines with brushless excitation have the disadvantage that the field winding is not accessible for the de-excitation of the machine. This means that, despite the proper operation of the protection system, the slow de-excitation time constant may produce severe damage in the event of an internal short circuit. A high-speed de-excitation system for these machines was developed, and this study presents the continuation of a previously published study. This study presents the design by computer simulation and the results of the first commissioning of this de-excitation system in a commercial 20 MVA hydro-generator. The de-excitation is achieved by inserting resistance in the field circuit, obtaining a dynamic response similar to that achieved in machines with static excitation. In this case, a non-linear discharge resistor was used, making the dynamic response even better.

In general, a major challenge for the exploitation of renewable energies is to improve their efficiency. In electricity generation from the energy of ocean waves, not unlike other technologies, the converter must be optimized to make the energy harvesting economically feasible. This paper proposes a passive tuning control strategy of a point absorber in which the power captured is maximized by controlling the electromagnetic force of the generator with a resistance emulation approach. The proposed strategy consists of mapping the optimal values for regular waves and applying them to irregular waves. This strategy is tested in a wave energy converter in which the generator is connected to a boost rectifier converter whose controller is designed to emulate a resistance. The power electronics system implemented is validated by comparing its performance with the case in which the generator is directly connected to a resistive load. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed strategy as the maximum captured power is concentrated around the optimal values previously calculated and with the same behavior for both excitations.

Las técnicas de resolución de restricciones son mecanismos que garantizan que todas las transacciones en un mercado competitivo de electricidad se pueden lograr sin la violación de los límites de operación. Es un tema importante en un mercado competitivo de la electricidad, ya que un manejo inadecuado puede segmentar el sistema y hacer que algunos de los participantes puedan ejercer poder de mercado. El propósito principal de este artículo es presentar una metodología que permite garantizar un despacho seguro, tanto en estado normal como después de contingencias, utilizando la técnica del re-despacho tras el análisis topológico. El artículo describe paso a paso el proceso de aplicación de la metodología propuesta e ilustra su aplicación al caso del sistema eléctrico de la República Dominicana y cómo puede ayudar a solventar el problema mencionado cuando el ahorro durante los periodos de contingencia supera al extra-coste durante los periodos de funcionamiento normal

In electric vehicles, passengers sit very close to an electric system of significant power. The high currents achieved in these vehicles mean that the passengers could be exposed to significant magnetic fields. One of the electric devices present in the power train are the batteries. In this paper, a methodology to evaluate the magnetic field created by these batteries is presented. First, the magnetic field generated by a single battery is analyzed using finite elements simulations. Results are compared to laboratory measurements, taken from a real battery, in order to validate the model. After this, the magnetic field created by a complete battery pack is estimated and results are discussed.

Frequency Response Analysis is a well-known technique for the diagnosis of power transformers. Currently, this technique is under research for its application in rotary electrical machines. This paper presents significant results on the application of Frequency Response Analysis to fault detection in field winding of synchronous machines with static excitation. First, the influence of the rotor position on the frequency response is evaluated. Secondly, some relevant test results are shown regarding ground fault and inter-turn fault detection in field windings at standstill condition. The influence of the fault resistance value is also taken into account. This paper also studies the applicability of Frequency Response Analysis in fault detection in field windings while rotating. This represents an important feature because some defects only appear with the machine rated speed. Several laboratory test results show the applicability of this fault detection technique in field windings at full speed with no excitation current.

On-line partial discharge (PD) measurements have become a common technique for assessing the insulation condition of installed high voltage (HV) insulated cables. When on-line tests are performed in noisy environments, or when more than one source of pulse-shaped signals are present in a cable system, it is difficult to perform accurate diagnoses. In these cases, an adequate selection of the non-conventional measuring technique and the implementation of effective signal processing tools are essential for a correct evaluation of the insulation degradation. Once a specific noise rejection filter is applied, many signals can be identified as potential PD pulses, therefore, a classification tool to discriminate the PD sources involved is required. This paper proposes an efficient method for the classification of PD signals and pulse-type noise interferences measured in power cables with HFCT sensors. By using a signal feature generation algorithm, representative parameters associated to the waveform of each pulse acquired are calculated so that they can be separated in different clusters. The efficiency of the clustering technique proposed is demonstrated through an example with three different PD sources and several pulse-shaped interferences measured simultaneously in a cable system with a high frequency current transformer (HFCT).

This report analyzes the basis of hydrogen and power integration strategies, by using water electrolysis processes as a means of flexible energy storage at large scales. It is a prospective study, where the scope is to describe the characteristics of current power systems (like the generation technologies, load curves and grid constraints), and define future scenarios of hydrogen for balancing the electrical grids, considering the efficiency, economy and easiness of operations. We focus in the "Spanish case", which is a good example for planning the transition from a power system holding large reserve capacities, high penetration of renewable energies and limited interconnections, to a more sustainable energy system being capable to optimize the volumes, the regulation modes, the utilization ratios and the impacts of the installations. Thus, we explore a novel aspect of the "hydrogen economy" which is based in the potentials of existing power systems and the properties of hydrogen as energy carrier, by considering the electricity generation and demand globally and determining the optimal size and operation of the hydrogen production processes along the country; e.g. the cost production of hydrogen becomes viable for a base-load scenario with 58 TWh/year of power surplus at 0.025 V/kWh, and large number electrolyzer plants (50 MW) running in variable mode (1-12 kA/m2)

For the energy valorization of alperujo, residue of the olive oil two phases extraction process, it is necessary to perform a drying process to reduce moisture content from over 60% to less than 10%. In order to reduce primary energy consumption and get an economic return, usually in this kind of drying facilities Gas Turbine CHP is used as a heat source. There have been recently in Spain some fires in this kind of GT-CHP facilities, which have caused high material losses. In some of these fires it has been suggested that the fire was caused by the output of incandescent alperujo in the flue gasesof the drying system. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine experimentally and analytically under which operational conditions a process of alperujo self-ignition in the drying process can begin, and determine the actual fire hazard in this type of TG-CHP system. For analytical study, the temperature and initial composition of the combustion gases of the Gas Turbine at the entrance of the drying process was calculated and the gas equilibrium conditions reached in contact with the biomass were calculated and, therefore, the temperature of the biomass during the drying process. Moreover, the layer and dust ignition temperature of alperujo has been experimentally determined, according to EN 50281-2-1: 2000. With these results, the operating conditions of the drying process, in which there are real risk of auto-ignition of alperujo have been established.Para la valorización energética del alperujo, residuo del proceso de extracción en dos fases del aceite de oliva, es necesario realizar un proceso de secado para reducir su contenido de humedad de más del 60% al 10% m/m en b.h. Con el fin de reducir el consumo de energía primaria y obtener una rentabilidad económica, normalmente en este tipo de instalaciones de secado se usa la cogeneración con turbina de gas (TG) como fuente de calor. En España en los últimos años han ocurrido algunos casos de incendio en este tipo de instalaciones de cogeneración, que han supuesto pérdidas materiales muy elevadas. Por esta razón, el objetivo de este trabajo es determinar analítica y experimentalmente las condiciones operativas del secadero bajo las cuales podría comenzar un proceso de autoinflamación del alperujo y determinar el riesgo real de incendio en este tipo de instalaciones. Para el estudio analítico, se ha planteado y validado el modelo matemático que permite calcular la temperatura y la composición de los gases de combustión a la entrada y a la salida del secadero, en función de las curvas características de la TG, de las condiciones atmosféricas, del caudal y del grado de humedad de la biomasa tratada. El modelo permite además calcular la temperatura de bulbo húmedo, que es la máxima temperatura que podría alcanzar la biomasa durante el proceso de secado y determinar la cantidad de biomasa que se puede secar completamente en función del caudal y de las condiciones de entrada de los gases de combustión. Con estos resultados y la temperatura mínima de autoinflamación del alperujo determinada experimentalmente siguiendo la norma EN 50281- 2-1:2000, se demuestra que en un proceso de secado de alperujo en condiciones normales de operación no existe riesgo de autoencendido que pueda dar origen a un incendio.

En el presente proyecto se ha procedido a implantar la herramienta de procesado software GNU Radio en la tarjeta EVMK2H, que es un módulo de evaluación fabricado por Texas Instruments que incorpora un System on Chip (SoC) 66AK2H14 de la familia Keystone II, el cual dispone de 4 núcleos ARM y 8 núcleos DSP. Previamente a la instalación de GNU Radio, hubo que configurar la tarjeta, así como instalar el software necesario. De igual manera, se realizó una primera aproximación para comprender el funcionamiento de los sistemas de comunicación entre núcleos de que hace uso la tarjeta, y de los que se hizo uso posteriormente en el proyecto. Tras el portado de GNU Radio se ha comprobado el correcto funcionamiento del mecanismo de comunicación entre núcleos ARM y DSP con un par de aplicaciones de prueba. ABSTRACT. In the present project it was performed the implementation of the software processing toolkit GNU Radio into the EVMK2H board, which is an evaluation module from Texas Instruments that includes a 66AK2H14 System on Chip (SoC) from the Keystone II family, that provides 4 ARM cores and 8 DSP cores. Before installing GNU Radio, it was necessary to configure the board, and as well installing other needed software. Also, a first approach was performed to understand the way the communication system between cores included in the board works, which was used later in the project. After porting GNU Radio, some test applications have been written to test the correct operation of the communication mechanism between ARM and DSP cores.

This paper studies the impact that different approaches of modeling the real-time use of the secondary regulation reserves have in the joint energy and reserve hourly scheduling of a price-taker pumped-storage hydropower plant. The unexpected imbalance costs due to the error between the forecasted real-time use of the reserves and the actual value are also studied and evaluated for the different approaches. The proposed methodology is applied to a daily-cycle and closed-loop pumped-storage hydropower plant. Preliminary results show that the deviations in the water volume at the end of the day are important when the percentage of the real-time use of reserves is unknown in advance, and also that the total income in all approaches after correcting these deviations is significantly lower than the maximum theoretical income.

El presente trabajo de investigación aborda el estudio de la propaganda en el movimiento guerrillero antifranquista en España en los años cuarenta. Desde una perspectiva multidisciplinar, basada en la Historia de España Contemporánea, la Historia de la Comunicación Social y la Historia de la Propaganda, analiza los procesos y sistemas de comunicación persuasiva desarrollados en el seno de las organizaciones guerrilleras contrarias al régimen de Franco en nuestro país. El estudio se ha realizado sobre la resistencia armada de los principales territorios de la península en los que la actividad guerrillera fue más acusada: León y Galicia, Asturias y Cantabria, Extremadura y Centro, Andalucía y, por último, Levante y Aragón. Parte de un primer marco introductorio de carácter general en el que se explican los antecedentes y orígenes del movimiento guerrillero en España y que imprimirán su sello en la actividad propagandística llevada a cabo posteriormente. En primer lugar, el período comprendido por la Segunda República en paz con las reformas y avances, entre otras materias, en el campo agrario, político o religioso, que fue interrumpido de forma abrupta por el golpe de Estado del 18 de julio de 1936, cuyo fracaso daría lugar a una guerra civil de casi tres años. Los primeros años de posguerra estuvieron caracterizados por una dura represión contra los vencidos, lo que provocó que muchas personas simpatizantes o pertenecientes a partidos y sindicatos de izquierdas o republicanos, se vieran obligadas a huir a los montes y sierras cercanas para escapar de la cárcel, de la tortura y de la muerte. Las condiciones impuestas por el nuevo Estado, que utilizó el terror como política y como herramienta de persuasión, impidió la integración de los perdedores en la sociedad y que permanecieran fugados...

El ritmo vertiginoso al que está evolucionando el sector de las telecomunicaciones a nivel mundial, así como las posibilidades que ofrecen los actuales sistemas de comunicación, las nuevas tecnologías de la información y la implantación de las mismas en los hábitos de vida de la sociedad en general, han convertido a las titulaciones de telecomunicaciones en unos estudios con una alta demanda por parte del alumnado y con unas interesantes perspectivas de futuro gracias al amplio abanico de posibilidades que abarcan. En la Universidad de Alicante comenzaron a impartirse estudios de telecomunicación en el año 1999 con la implantación de la Ingeniería Técnica de Telecomunicación, especialidad en Sonido e Imagen. Con la adaptación al EEES, los estudios se adaptaron en el año 2011 con el comienzo del Grado en Ingeniería en Sonido e Imagen en Telecomunicación, así como con el curso específico de Adaptación al Grado en Ingeniería en Sonido e Imagen en Telecomunicación que establece el puente que permite a nuestros propios titulados (entre otros) adaptar su titulación a los nuevos estudios actuales. A fecha de hoy, la Universidad de Alicante ha dado un paso más, impartiendo desde este curso 2011-2012 el Máster Universitario en Ingeniería de Telecomunicación y permitiendo a los estudiantes completar su formación en Telecomunicaciones en su propia universidad.

Given the complex structure of electricity tariffs and their steady growth in Spanish, we've studied its effect over the operating costs of the wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), concluding that in the last three years the revisions of electricity rates have meant increases in electricity costs of 64.5% in the rate 3.1.A and 79.1% in the rate 6.1. This has caused the cost of electricity, which was the most important, has increased from a 44% of total operating costs in the year 2009, to more than a 56% in the year 2012.
