La presente edición del Boletín da a conocer la Asociación Latinoamericana de Metros y Subterráneos (ALAMYS), la que a lo largo de 15 años desde su constitución, viene apoyando diversas iniciativas orientadas a mejorar la calidad de los servicios que prestan los sistemas ferroviarios metropolitanos de transporte masivo. En su más reciente Asamblea General de Madrid, celebrada en Madrid, España, en diciembre del 2000, ALAMYS ha estructurado diferentes Comités Técnicos otorgando una mayor operatividad al desarrollo de sus trabajos, y por tanto, el avance de la propia Asociación y la consecución de sus fines. Este artículo ha sido preparado por Aurelio Rojo Garrido , actual Secretario General de ALAMYS y Director de Operación Metro de Madrid, S. A.

As amostras de esmectita do estado do Pará, Amazônia, Brasil foram caracterizadas utilizando XRD, 27Al MAS NMR, FTIR e análise textural por curvas isotérmicas de adsorção-dessorção de nitrogênio. Na produção das argilas pilarizadas foi usado como íon intercalante, o Al13 (o íon de keggin), obtido pela reação das soluções AlCl36H2O/NaOH, com razão molar OH/Al=2. Foram adotadas as proporções (Al/Argila): 5, 10, 20 e 25 meq/g de argila, com intercalação em 25 ºC, durante as 3 h e calcinada a 450 ºC (temperatura adequada da calcinação). O resultado mostrou que o processo de pilarização aumentou o espaçamento basal da argila natural de 14,02 para 18,84 Å e a área superficial de 44,30 para 198,03 m2/g (Al/Argila=25meq/g de argila, pH=4). O material preparado com relação Al/Argila=25meq/g de argila mostrou a incorporação máxima de Al. A estabilidade térmica da argila natural foi melhorada pelo procedimento de pilarização.

Neste trabalho, é feita uma tentativa para estabelecer a influência dos teores [0,5; 0,7 e 0,9]%Si, como agentes modificadores da liga Al-0,05%Cu-[0,24-0,28]%Fe, avaliada através de aspectos que levaram em conta parâmetros operacionais de vazamentos unidirecionais horizontais tais como velocidades (Vs) e taxas de solidificação (Tx). Após operações de corte e usinagem foram obtidos perfis cilíndricos, com diâmetros de 9,5mm e comprimento de 120mm, a partir dos quais, após operações de trabalho à frio, chegou-se a fios com diâmetros de 2,7; 3,0; 3,8 e 4,0mm. Estes perfis foram submetidos à caracterização elétrica, com base na condutividade elétrica, à caracterização mecânica, com base em ensaios tensão/deformação enfatizando o alongamento, e a caracterização estrutural em seções longitudinais, com ênfase na distribuição das partículas de segunda fase e no aspecto da fratura, na qual a metodologia de avaliação das dimensões das microcavidades se utiliza da razão do cumprimento (L) pela largura (W).

ABSTRACT. Introduction: an in vitro model was used to measure the hydraulic conductance in human dentin discs treated with oxalic acid for 15, 30 or 60 s maintaining the occlusive effect and measuring 7 and 14 days after application. Methods: 45 dentin discs measuring 1 mm thick were obtained from human third molars which were free of caries and in no occlusion; the samples were obtained from patients aged 16 to 30 years. Discs were sorted out into three study groups (n = 15) depending on the time of application of a commercial solution of oxalate-based dentin desensitizer (DD) (BisBlock®) which contains ˂ 5% oxalic acid of 1.5-1.8 pH: in group A the agent was applied for 15 s, in group B it was applied for 30 s, and in group C for 60 s. The hydraulic conductance of each disc was calculated after acid etching, which corresponds to the maximum permeability of discs (100%) after immediate application of oxalic acid, as well as seven and fourteen days of storage in saline solution. The statistical analysis was done with ANOVA test and post-hoc Games-Howell test. Results: 35,46 ± 23.41% in Group A, 36.34 ± 15.88% in Group B and 24.99 ± 14.99% in Group C, showing that the use of DD for 15, 30 or 60 s decreased permeability in a statistically significant manner (p <0.05). Conclusions: DD was effective in reducing hydraulic conductance regardless of application time, but this reduction was temporary only, since after seven days permeability returns to values close to those of baseline.

The identification, characterization and stability range of the phases present in a series of Cu-Al alloys, with Al content from 11.0 to 15.0 wt.%, were studied by Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), Optical Microscopy (OM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Selected Area Electron Diffraction (SAED), Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES), Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDX) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). In some alloys and in a temperature range from 790 degrees C to 850 degrees C the presence of black spots exhibiting regular shapes and an homogeneous distribution was noticed through metallographic microscopy. Data from TEM and AES indicate that these spots are made of two monocrystalline phases having different Al contents and a crystallographic orientation relationship. (C) 1998 Elsevier B.V. S.A. Deep Sea Drilling Project Site 480 (27°54.10’N, 111°39.34’W; 655 m water depth) contains a high resolution record of paleoceanographic change of the past 15 000 years for the Guaymas Basin, a region of very high diatom productivity within the central Gulf of California. Analyses of diatoms and silicoflagellates were completed on samples spaced every 40-50 yr, whereas ICP-AES geochemical analyses were completed on alternate samples (sample spacing 80-100 yr). The Bolling-Allerod interval (14.6-12.9 ka) (note, ka refers to 1000 calendar years BP throughout this report) is characterized by an increase in biogenic silica and a decline in calcium carbonate relative to surrounding intervals, suggesting conditions somewhat similar to those of today. The Younger Dryas event (12.9-11.6 ka) is marked by a major drop in biogenic silica and an increase in calcium carbonate. Increasing relative percentage contributions of Azpeitia nodulifera and Dictyocha perlaevis (a tropical diatom and silicoflagellate, respectively) and reduced numbers of the silicoflagellate Octactis pulchra are supportive of reduced upwelling of nutrient-rich waters. Between 10.6 and 10.0 ka, calcium carbonate and A. nodulifera abruptly decline at DSDP 480, while Roperia tesselata, a diatom indicative of winter upwelling in the modern-day Gulf, increases sharply in numbers. A nearly coincident increase in the silicoflagellate Dictyocha stapedia suggests that waters above DSDP 480 were more similar to the cooler and slightly more saline waters of the northern Gulf during much of the early and middle parts of the Holocene (~10 to 3.2 ka). At about 6.2 ka a stepwise increase in biogenic silica and the reappearance of the tropical diatom A. nodulifera marks a major change in oceanographic conditions in the Gulf. A winter shift to more northwesterly winds may have occurred at this time along with the onset of periodic northward excursions (El Nino-driven?) of the North Equatorial Countercurrent during the summer. Beginning between 2.8 and 2.4 ka, the amplitude of biogenic silica and wt% Fe, Al, and Ti (proxies of terrigenous input) increase, possibly reflecting intensification of ENSO cycles and the establishment of modern oceanographic conditions in the Gulf. Increased numbers of O. pulchra after 2.8 ka suggest enhanced spring upwelling.

The physical properties of small rhodium clusters, Rh-n, have been in debate due to the shortcomings of density functional theory (DFT). To help in the solution of those problems, we obtained a set of putative lowest energy structures for small Rh-n (n = 2-15) clusters employing hybrid-DFT and the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). For n = 2-6, both hybrid and GGA functionals yield similar ground-state structures (compact), however, hybrid favors compact structures for n = 7-15, while GGA favors open structures based on simple cubic motifs. Thus, experimental results are crucial to indicate the correct ground-state structures, however, we found that a unique set of structures (compact or open) is unable to explain all available experimental data. For example, the GGA structures (open) yield total magnetic moments in excellent agreement with experimental data, while hybrid structures (compact) have larger magnetic moments compared with experiments due to the increased localization of the 4d states. Thus, we would conclude that GGA provides a better description of the Rh-n clusters, however, a recent experimental-theoretical study [ Harding et al., J. Chem. Phys. 133, 214304 (2010)] found that only compact structures are able to explain experimental vibrational data, while open structures cannot. Therefore, it indicates that the study of Rh-n clusters is a challenging problem and further experimental studies are required to help in the solution of this conundrum, as well as a better description of the exchange and correlation effects on the Rh n clusters using theoretical methods such as the quantum Monte Carlo method.
