[EN]Forty feedlot steers were fed a barleygrain-based finishing diet typical for western Canada, with two levels of supplementary vitamin E (468 or 1068 IU head_1 d_1) and the effect on backfat trans-18:1 isomeric profile was determined. Feeding 1068 IU vitamin E reduced the total trans-18:1 content in backfat (P<0.01), as well as the percentage of trans 10-18:1 (P<0.001), which are related to an increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. On the other hand, trans 11-18:1 (vaccenic acid) the precursor for cis 9,trans 11- 18:2 (rumenic acid), which have several purported health benefits, increased (P<0.01). Vitamin E could, therefore, be used to decrease trans-18:1 in beef and improve its isomeric profile.

[EN]A study was conducted on crossbred steers (n=275; 376±924 kg) to evaluate performance and carcass quality of cattle fed wheat or corn dried distillers’ grains with solubles (DDGS). The control ration contained 86.6% rolled barley grain, 5.7% supplement and 7.7% barley silage (DM basis). The four treatments included replacement of barley grain at 20 or 40% of the diet (DM basis) with wheat or corn DDGS. Steers were slaughtered at a common end weight of 645 kg with 100 steers randomly (n=20 per treatment) selected for determination of the retail yield of sub-primal boneless boxed beef (SPBBB). Data were analyzed as a completely randomized design using pen as the experimental unit. Feeding increasing levels of wheat DDGS led to a quadratic increase in dry matter intake (DMI) (P<0.01), whereas increasing levels of corn DDGS led to a quadratic decrease in DMI (P=0.01). Average daily gain was not influenced (P=0.13) by feeding wheat or corn DDGS, but cattle fed corn DDGS exhibited a quadratic increase (P=0.01) in gain:feed. As a result, a quadratic increase (P<0.01) in calculated NEg of the diet was observed as corn DDGS levels increased. A linear decrease (P=0.04) in days on feed (169, 166 and 154 d) was noted when increasing levels of wheat DDGS (0, 20 and 40%) were fed. Dressing percentage increased in a linear fashion with wheat DDGS (P<0.01) inclusion level and in a quadratic fashion (P=0.01) as corn DDGS inclusion level increased although other carcass traits were not affected (P=0.10) by treatment. The results indicate that replacement of barley grain with corn or wheat DDGS up to 40% of the diet (DM) can lead to superior performance (improved gain:feed or reduced days on feed, respectively) with no detrimental effect on quality grade or carcass SPBBB yield.

通过对实验数据、点源矩理论和等效孔穴理论的分析对比认为:在爆破区的邻近范围以外的震动信号主要来源于由于爆破作用引起的爆破后的爆破区邻近范围内地质结构的自振,震动信号是由结构进行滤波后传出的。而不是像很多人认为的那样:这种滤波作用主要是由介质的非弹性性质(如介质阻尼等)决定的。由此给出了一种适用于松动爆破的爆破震源的等效模型,说明并验证了在一定条件下载荷的时间函数的冲量的决定作用。同时实现了利用有限元方法对爆破震动过程进行数值模拟,与实验结果的对比说明模型简单有效。

将温度不超过800K的氢气和空气燃烧混合物作为超声速载气流与常温下的反向空气射流进行混合加热实验.用一组热电偶测量混合前后流场温度分布的实验结果表明:反向射流的喷射角在0°到90°的范围内,角度亦大对流场的干扰亦大;而45°角附近范围内喷射时混合效率最佳.在不到3倍管道直径的混合距离处,混合均匀度已达到比较理想的程度.在现有的实验条件下,反向气流与载气流的流量比已超过25%,并仍有提高的潜力.说明反向射流混合方案基本可行.

Cidadãos opinam sobre o fim dos marajás no funcionalismo público. O Deputado Victor Faccioni (PDS-RS) apresenta emenda estabelecendo um piso máximo para os servidores públicos, correspondente a 90% do que recebem os ministros do Supremo Tribunal Federal. O Deputado Arolde de Oliveira (PFL-RJ) considera louvável a iniciativa do parlamentar para moralizar o serviço público. O Deputado Ruben Figueiró (PMDB-MS) informa que a medida é conveniente. O Deputado Fernando Gasparian (PMDB-SP) discorda do Deputado Victor Faccioni e sugere outra medida estabelecendo um teto máximo para todos, mas que não tenha como base o salário dos ministros do STF. Constituintes moderados do PMDB formam o Centro Democrático, o Centrão. O líder do Centrão Expedito Machado (PMDB-CE) opina sobre a divisão do PMDB e diz que a intenção do seu grupo é fortalecer o partido. O Deputado Aloisio Vasconcellos (PMDB-MG) declara que a partir de 1988 haverá uma reformulação partidária e que é inquestionável a necessidade de partidos fortes. Será entregue ao Presidente da Assembleia Nacional Constituinte (ANC), Deputado Ulysses Guimarães, o novo esboço do projeto de Constituição. O Senador Afonso Arinos (PFL-RJ) define o parlamentarismo como um sistema de governo em que o presidente é o chefe de Estado e o primeiro-ministro é o chefe de governo, sendo que o primeiro tende para a estabilidade e o segundo para a eficácia.

The Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary (OCNMS) continues to invest significant resources into seafloor mapping activities along Washington’s outer coast (Intelmann and Cochrane 2006; Intelmann et al. 2006; Intelmann 2006). Results from these annual mapping efforts offer a snapshot of current ground conditions, help to guide research and management activities, and provide a baseline for assessing the impacts of various threats to important habitat. During the months of August 2004 and May and July 2005, we used side scan sonar to image several regions of the sea floor in the northern OCNMS, and the data were mosaicked at 1-meter pixel resolution. Video from a towed camera sled, bathymetry data, sedimentary samples and side scan sonar mapping were integrated to describe geological and biological aspects of habitat. Polygon features were created and attributed with a hierarchical deep-water marine benthic classification scheme (Greene et al. 1999). For three small areas that were mapped with both side scan sonar and multibeam echosounder, we made a comparison of output from the classified images indicating little difference in results between the two methods. With these considerations, backscatter derived from multibeam bathymetry is currently a costefficient and safe method for seabed imaging in the shallow (<30 meters) rocky waters of OCNMS. The image quality is sufficient for classification purposes, the associated depths provide further descriptive value and risks to gear are minimized. In shallow waters (<30 meters) which do not have a high incidence of dangerous rock pinnacles, a towed multi-beam side scan sonar could provide a better option for obtaining seafloor imagery due to the high rate of acquisition speed and high image quality, however the high probability of losing or damaging such a costly system when deployed as a towed configuration in the extremely rugose nearshore zones within OCNMS is a financially risky proposition. The development of newer technologies such as intereferometric multibeam systems and bathymetric side scan systems could also provide great potential for mapping these nearshore rocky areas as they allow for high speed data acquisition, produce precisely geo-referenced side scan imagery to bathymetry, and do not experience the angular depth dependency associated with multibeam echosounders allowing larger range scales to be used in shallower water. As such, further investigation of these systems is needed to assess their efficiency and utility in these environments compared to traditional side scan sonar and multibeam bathymetry. In September 2002, side scan sonar was used to image a portion of the sea floor in the northern OCNMS and was mosaiced at 1-meter pixel resolution using 100 kHz data collected at 300-meter range scale. Video from a remotely-operated vehicle (ROV), bathymetry data, sedimentary samples, and sonar mapping have been integrated to describe geological and biological aspects of habitat and polygon features have been created and attributed with a hierarchical deep-water marine benthic classification scheme (Greene et al. 1999). The data can be used with geographic information system (GIS) software for display, query, and analysis. Textural analysis of the sonar images provided a relatively automated method for delineating substrate into three broad classes representing soft, mixed sediment, and hard bottom. Microhabitat and presence of certain biologic attributes were also populated into the polygon features, but strictly limited to areas where video groundtruthing occurred. Further groundtruthing work in specific areas would improve confidence in the classified habitat map. (PDF contains 22 pages.)
