The final goal of mandibular reconstruction following ablative surgery for oral cancer is often considered to be dental implant-supported oral rehabilitation, for which bone grafts should ideally be placed in a suitable position taking subsequent prosthetic restoration into account. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a standardized treatment strategy for mandibular reconstruction according to the size of the bony defect and planned subsequent dental prosthetic rehabilitation. Data of 56 patients, who had undergone such a systematic mandibular fibula free flap reconstruction, were retrospectively analyzed. Early complications were observed in 41.5% of the patients but only in those who had been irradiated. Late complications were found in 38.2%. Dental implant survival rate was 92%, and dental prosthetic treatment has been completed in all classes of bony defects with an overall success rate of 42.9%. The main reasons for failure of the complete dental reconstruction were patients' poor cooperation (30.4%) and tumour recurrence (14.3%) followed by surgery-related factors (10.8%) such as implant failure and an unfavourable intermaxillary relationship between the maxilla and the mandible. A comparison of our results with the literature findings revealed no marked differences in the complication rates and implant survival rates. However, a systematic concept for the reconstructive treatment like the method presented here, plays an important role in the successful completion of dental reconstruction. The success rate could still be improved by some technical progress in implant and bone graft positioning.

Depending on tumor burden, hepatic function and patients' performance status, hepatocellular carcinoma is treated by surgery, local procedures, systemic therapy or palliation. The majority of patients are diagnosed at a stage where local therapy is the treatment of choice. Recently, the multikinase inhibitor sorafenib was found to improve the survival of patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma and conserved liver function. In this manuscript, we summarize the experimental evidence supporting the combination of a systemic targeted therapy with a local therapy. We also discuss the pros and cons of different schedules of combining such treatments. We conclude that there is enough of a theoretical argument to design clinical trials testing this strategy.

Wireless sensor network is an emerging research topic due to its vast and ever-growing applications. Wireless sensor networks are made up of small nodes whose main goal is to monitor, compute and transmit data. The nodes are basically made up of low powered microcontrollers, wireless transceiver chips, sensors to monitor their environment and a power source. The applications of wireless sensor networks range from basic household applications, such as health monitoring, appliance control and security to military application, such as intruder detection. The wide spread application of wireless sensor networks has brought to light many research issues such as battery efficiency, unreliable routing protocols due to node failures, localization issues and security vulnerabilities. This report will describe the hardware development of a fault tolerant routing protocol for railroad pedestrian warning system. The protocol implemented is a peer to peer multi-hop TDMA based protocol for nodes arranged in a linear zigzag chain arrangement. The basic working of the protocol was derived from Wireless Architecture for Hard Real-Time Embedded Networks (WAHREN).

A prototype Concept Fire Truck was designed using Autodesk Inventor 3D Design Software. Various pictures of old-time and toy fire trucks were utilized for this project. The prototype was printed using a 3D printer to verify that all parts of the truck would fit and work as intended.
Repigmentation by outer-root-sheath-derived melanocytes: proof of concept in vitiligo and leucoderma
Resumo:
BACKGROUND: Treatment of depigmented skin is an unmet medical need. OBJECTIVE: Melanocytes or stem cells thereof residing in the outer root sheath (ORS) of hair follicles might be used to repigment skin. METHODS: After de-epidermisation, autologous ORS cell solutions were applied to 5 patients with vitiligo and 1 with leucoderma. RESULTS: Stable repigmentation in a variable percentage was documented in all the patients. CONCLUSION: Applying ORS-derived melanocytes is a promising technology to improve autologous melanocyte transplantation.
