Tracking changes to a microplankton community in a North Atlantic sea loch using the microplankton index PI(mp).

Microplankton plays a vital part in marine ecosystems and its importance has been recognised by the inclusion of microplankton community composition in regulatory frameworks such as the European Water Framework Directive and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive as an indicator of ecological status. Quantitative techniques are therefore required to assess the environmental status of the microplankton in a water body. Here we demonstrate the use of a method known as the Microplankton Index PI(mp) to evaluate changes in the microplankton community of the West coast Scottish Sea Loch Creran. Microplankton in this fjord has been studied since the 1970’s providing a data set spanning four decades. Our analysis compares an arbitrarily chosen reference period between 1979 and 1981 with a period between 2011 and 2013 and demonstrates that between these two periods community structure has changed considerably with a substantial drop in the numbers of observed diatoms accompanied by a rise in the number of autotrophic/mixotrophic dinoflagellates as well as an increase in the potentially toxin producing genus Pseudo-nitzschia and that these are related to changes in both the intensity and timing of local patterns of precipitation. The PI(mp) is shown to be a useful and robust method to visualise and quantify changes in the underlying structure of the microplankton community and is a powerful addition to the toolbox of techniques needed to determine the health of our seas.

A imagem do destino turístico como ferramenta de diferenciação e promoção do turismo Caso de Barra Grande/PI – Brasil

O presente trabalho analisa a importância da imagem do destino turístico na Praia de Barra Grande, localizada em Cajueiro da Praia/PI-Brasil. De acordo com o que se analisou na percepção dos turistas, foi possível observar como é entendida essa imagem formada pelos turistas, os resultados e os fatores correspondentes que contribuíram para essa formação da imagem. Este tema, que serve de ferramenta de diferenciação e promoção do turismo, além de intervir no processo de seleção, é fundamental para a instigação do consumidor a visitar o destino. Desse modo, como o produto turístico é intangível, fica comprovado, por meios de descrições e imagens, o quão importante é a criação da imagem (imaginária), e o que se fazer mediante ao uso de estratégias de marketing para se conseguir atingir seu público alvo. Dessa forma, os resultados foram significantes, o que deu importância e valor para a imagem do destino estudado.

The purpose of this article is to present three selected contemporary socio-cultural constructs of football. Due to its immense popularity and media exposure, this sport is an area of expressing and crystallizing many social trends and concerns as well as the diversity of cultural (re-)adaptation. There is no doubt that football is a sport associated with the “male culture”. However, in the context of globalization, adapting football for the local requirements of the Japanese consumer market so unexpectedly has brought its feminization. One can even observe an inversion of traditional gender roles in this field: the female audience evaluates and admires the football players’ male bodies.

Piękny czy dobry? Moralny wymiar upiększania ciała

The main purpose of the article is to point outsome relations between beauty and good in contemporary reality. The main question that arises here is as follows: is the relationship of beauty and moral good still relevant? The concept presented in the thesis refers to the ancient idea of kalokagathia. It stated that beauty is inseparable from moral good. As far as this ancient perspective is concerned, it can be treated as the background for contemporary considerations about the main issue of beauty and good. The article refers to the concept of aestheticization by Wolfgang Welsch. He defines aesthetics as the primary guiding value, where as experience and entertainment have become the guidelines for contemporary culture. Moreover, the thesis mentions the concept of the consumer society and new ethics of the relation to the body as it is described by Jean Budrillard. Then the narration of the article focuses on the following problem: in what sense can we talk nowadays about moral motivation for beauty treatments of body? One assumption leads to the case of looking after one’s body. Another point of view mentions the need of harmony which manifests itself in beautiful body. Eventually, the central question emerges whether contemporary practice of beautifying the body can be a part of the concept of the good life or not.

The article is devoted to the social functions of soccer in Brazilian society. The first section analyses the elitist and working class origin of soccer in Brazil. Next, the author attempts to describe the role of soccer in advancing social mobility of people from the working class. In the third, most important section the role of soccer in creation of the Brazilian national identity is considered. Here, the concept of a “tropical hybrid” as well as the ideology of mulattism is presented together with a detailed analysis of the Brazilian soccer style as an expression of the Afro-Brazilian, genetically determined talent.

Integración de Arbotix, Raspberry Pi y motores Dynamixel Ax-12+ para un robot humanoide que busca y patea pelotas

En este artículo se presenta a DeBuPa (Detección Búsqueda Pateo) un humanoide de tamaño pequeño (38 cm de alto) construido con las piezas del kit Bioloid. Del kit se ha excluido la tarjeta CM-510 para sustituirla por la tarjeta controladora Arbotix, que será la que controle los 16 motores Dynamixel Ax-12+ (para mover al robot) y 2 servomotores analógicos (para mover la cámara). Además se ha agregado un mini computador Raspberry Pi, con su cámara, para que el robot pueda detectar y seguir la pelota de forma autónoma. Todos estos componentes deben ser coordinados para que se logre cumplir la tarea de detectar, seguir y patear la pelota. Por ello se hace necesaria la comunicación entre la Arbotix y la Raspberry Pi. La herramienta empleada para ello es el framework ROS (Robot Operating System). En la Raspberry Pi se usa el lenguaje C++ y se ejecuta un solo programa encargado de captar la imagen de la cámara, filtrar y procesar para encontrar la pelota, tomar la decisión de la acción a ejecutar y hacer la petición a la Arbotix para que dé la orden a los motores de ejecutar el movimiento. Para captar la imagen de la cámara se ha utilizado la librería RasPiCam CV. Para filtrar y procesar la imagen se ha usado las librerías de OpenCV. La Arbotix, además de controlar los motores, se encarga de monitorizar que el robot se encuentre balanceado, para ello usa el sensor Gyro de Robotis. Si detecta un desbalance de un cierto tamaño puede saber si se ha caído y levantarse.

Raspberry Pi-pohjainen dataloggeri

Dataloggerit ovat tärkeitä mittaustekniikassa käytettäviä mittalaitteita, joiden tarkoituksena on kerätä talteen mittausdataa pitkiltä aikaväleiltä. Dataloggereita voidaan käyttää esimerkiksi teollista prosessia osana olevien toimilaitteiden tai kotitalouden energiajärjestelmän seurannassa. Teollisen luokan dataloggerit ovat yleensä hinnaltaan satojen tai tuhansien eurojen luokkaa. Työssä pyrittiin löytämään teollisen luokan laitteille halpa ja helppokäyttöinen vaihtoehto, joka on kuitenkin riittävän tehokas ja toimiva. Työssä suunniteltiin ja toteutettiin dataloggeri Raspberry Pi-alustalle ja testattiin sitä oikeaa teollista ympäristöä vastaavissa olosuhteissa. Kirjallisuudesta ja internet artikkeleista etsittiin samankaltaisia laite- ja ohjelmistoratkaisuja ja niitä käytettiin dataloggausjärjestelmän pohjana. Raspberry Pi-alustalle koodattiin yksinkertainen Python-kielinen data-loggausohjelma, joka käyttää Modbus-tiedonsiirtoprotokollaa. Testien perusteella voidaan todeta, että toteutettu dataloggeri on toimiva ja kykenee kaupallisten dataloggereiden tasoiseen mittaukseen ainakin pienillä näytteistystaajuuksilla. Toteutettu dataloggeri on myös huomattavasti kaupallisia dataloggereita halvempi. Helppokäyttöisyyden näkökulmasta dataloggerissa havaittiin puutteita, joita käydään läpi jatkokehitysideoiden muodossa.

El presente trabajo tiene como finalidad mostrar la configuración e implementación de un servidor de comunicaciones unificadas utilizando un Raspberry Pi como plataforma de hardware y la distribución de Elastix, micro-Elastix, desarrollada especialmente para trabajar en arquitecturas ARM.

In the paper, I make references to the psychological process of passing from childhood to adulthood. In contemporary times, this process is spread in time, its boundaries are blurry and it is difficult to find in it the primordial initiation rituals known among primitive tribes. I call these phenomena the Sleeping Beauty syndrome, and compare the contemporary rites of passage from childhood to adulthood to this very fairy tale, in particular to its psychological readings. The theoretical framework for my considerations is based on a selection of anthropological rite concepts and elements of methodological concepts of studying fairy tales, such as structural and psychoanalytical approaches. My psychopedagogical analysis of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale through the category rite of passage thus begins with defining this category underlining the possibility of using it in various sciences and referring to the fairy tale as a contemporary space for ritual initiation experience.

Prevalencia de anticuerpos a Parainfluenza Bovina (PI-3) en ganaderías lecheras de dos parroquias del cantón Cuenca, Ecuador

Las afecciones respiratorias son algunas de las patologías que con mayor frecuencia se observan, particularmente en los bovinos jóvenes. Los agentes virales más corrientemente implicados son los responsables de las enfermedades conocidas como Síndrome Respiratorio Bovino. Entre ellas, el virus Parainfluenza bovina tipo 3 (PI-3) (Bryson, 1990). El mismo provoca una enfermedad infectocontagiosa, capaz de afectar el tracto respiratorio y predisponer a los animales infectados a una neumonía más grave, especialmente cuando se exponen a patógenos bacterianos como Pasteurela hemolítica o Mycoplasma spp. En otros países, como Colombia, se describen prevalencias muy altas del orden del 68% (Betancur et al., 2010). El objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar la prevalencia de anticuerpos a PI-3 en hembras bovinas de diferentes edades y grupos raciales en ganaderías lecheras de dos parroquias del cantón Cuenca, Ecuador.

Avaliação da conformidade de blocos cerâmicos para alvenaria de vedação produzidas na Região Integrada de Desenvolvimento da Grande Teresina

This research presents an outlook of the industries of red ceramic in the region next to the city of Teresina and an analysis of the ceramic products producted in this pole. The microregion investigated possesses 13 boroughs where were identified 32 ceramic in operation, being that 24 are located in Teresina, the ceramic region more important of Piauí, 1 is located in the city of Miguel Leão and 7 is located in Timon city that belongs to the state of Maranhão. The majority of ceramics are pulverized in these two cities, Teresina and Timon , responsible by a largely production independent of distance between fabric and consumer market. Furthermore, there is an artisanal production realized in other boroughs, mainly manual conformation bricks, where are producted diverse types of handicraft and ceramics utilitarian. The objective of this research is to evalue the conformity of ceramic blocks for brick of obstruction made by red ceramic industry of microregion at studying, verifying their pontentialities and adequacy in terms of production. In this research universe made a search of ceramic industries related to the Foundation CEPRO (Foundation Center of Research Social and Economic of Piauí). For the analysis of the ceramic products , were colected 60 crude bricks sample in three industries for their characterization, and 39 burned bricks sample for the Evaluation of Conformity. The results of the characterization made reached a accetptable standard in all formulations and temperature studied. The burned samples were applied to the geometric, physical and mechanical assays according to the ABNT standards (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards). The results of the physical assays showed that all the samples are at the same band recommended by standard. However, through the geometric assays just two industries did not present results according to the standard, due to lack of control in their process such as in their equipments. Taking into account the mechanical properties, only one industry investigated was not according to the standard
