We consider the supersymmetric extension of the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos. We study the mass spectra in the scalar and pseudoscalar sectors, and for a given set of the input parameters, we find that the lightest scalar in the model has a mass of 130 GeV and the lightest pseudoscalar has mass of 5 GeV. However, this pseudoscalar decouples from the Z(0) at high energy scales since it is almost a singlet under SU(2)(L)circle timesU(1)(Y).

We present a measurement of the fraction f(+) of right-handed W bosons produced in top quark decays, based on a candidate sample of t (t) over bar events in the lepton+jets decay mode. These data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 230 pb(-1), collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar Collider at root s=1.96 TeV. We use a constrained fit to reconstruct the kinematics of the t (t) over bar and decay products, which allows for the measurement of the leptonic decay angle theta(*) for each event. By comparing the cos theta(*) distribution from the data with those for the expected background and signal for various values of f(+), we find f(+)=0.00 +/- 0.13(stat)+/- 0.07(syst). This measurement is consistent with the standard model prediction of f(+)=3.6 x 10(-4).

We implement the mechanism of spontaneous CP violation in the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos and recognize their sources of CP violation. Our main result is that the mechanism works already in the minimal version of the model and new sources of CP violation emerges as an effect of new physics at energies higher than the electroweak scale.

We present a general formalism for extracting information on the fundamental parameters associated with neutrino masses and mixings from two or more long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. This formalism is then applied to the current most likely experiments using neutrino beams from the Japan Hadron Facility (JHF) and Fermilab's NuMI beamline. Different combinations of muon neutrino or muon anti-neutrino running are considered. The type of neutrino mass hierarchy is extracted using the effects of matter on neutrino propogation. Contrary to naive expectation, we find that both beams using neutrinos is more suitable for determining the hierarchy provided that the neutrino energy divided by baseline (E/L) for NuMI is smaller than or equal to that of JHF, whereas to determine the small mixing angle, theta(13), and the CP or T violating phase delta, one neutrino and the other anti-neutrino are most suitable. We make extensive use of bi-probability diagrams for both understanding and extracting the physics involved in such comparisons.

In this Letter we consider that assuming: (a) that the only left-handed neutral fermions are the active neutrinos, (b) that B - L is a gauge symmetry, and (c) that the L assignment is restricted to the integer numbers, the anomaly cancellation imply that at least three right-handed neutrinos must be added to the minimal representation content of the electroweak standard model. However, two types of models arise: (i) the usual one where each of the three identical right-handed neutrinos has total lepton number L = 1: (ii) and the other one in which two of them carry L = 4 while the third one carries L = -5.

The purpose of the present study was to demonstrate a physiological response to TA2005, a potent beta(2)-adrenoceptor (beta(2)-AR) selective agonist, in right atria isolated from stressed female rats under the influence of the estrous cycle. We obtained concentration-response curves to the agonist in the presence and in the absence of selective antagonists in right atria isolated from female rats submitted to three daily foot-shock sessions (30 min duration, 120 pulses of 1.0 mA, 1.0 s, applied at random intervals of 5-25 s) and sacrificed at estrus or diestrus. Our results showed that the pD(2), values of TA2005 were not influenced by estrous cycle phase or foot-shock stress. However, in right atria from stressed rats sacrificed during diestrus, the concentration-response curve to TA2005 was biphasic, with a response being obtained at concentrations of 0.1 nM, whereas during estrus no response was observed at doses lower than 3 nM. ICI118,551, a beta(2)-AR antagonist, abolished the response to nanomolar concentrations of TA2005 in right atria from stressed rats at diestrus, with no changes in a,agonist pot values in right atria from control rats (7.47 +/- 0.09, p > 0.05) but a 3-fold decrease in pD(2), values of TA2005 in right atria from foot shock stressed rats (7.90 +/- 0.07, p less than or equal to 0.05). Concentration-response curves to TA2005 in the presence of ICI118,551 were best fitted by a one-site model equation. The beta(1)-AR antagonist, CGP20712A, shifted to the right only the second part of the concentration-response curves to the agonist, unmasking the putative Pz-AR-mediated response to the agonist in tissues isolated from stressed rats at diestrus. Under this condition, concentration-response curves to the agonist were best fitted by a two-site model equation. pot and maximum response of TA2005 interaction with beta(1)- and putative Pz-adrenoceptor components were calculated. Schild analyses gave a pK(B) value for CGP20712A that was typical for the interaction with beta(1)-AR in each experimental group. pK(B), values for ICI118,551 could not be obtained in stressed rats sacrificed at diestrus since Schild plot slopes were lower than 1.0. In right atria from control rats, ICI118,551 pK(B), values were similar to reported values for the interaction of the antagonist with beta(1)-AR. These results confirm that a heterogenous PAR population mediating the chronotropic response to catecholamines can be demonstrated in right atria from foot shock stressed female rats sacrificed at diestrus. The stress-induced response seems to be mediated by the beta(2)-AR subtype. Right atria from rats sacrificed during estrus are protected against stress-induced alterations on the homogeneity of PAR population.

We evaluated the potency of isoproterenol, carbachol, pilocarpine and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in the rat right atria at 30, 60 and 90 days after neonatal capsaicin treatment. Neonatal rats were pretreated on the second day of life with capsaicin (50 mg/kg). The capsaicin pretreatment caused a five-fold rightward shift at the pEC(50) level on the concentration-response curves to isoproterenol in 30-day-old rats. Propranolol (10 mg/kg, given 15 min prior to capsaicin treatment) prevented this subsensitivity. No changes in the potency of isoproterenol were observed at 60 and 90 days after capsaicin pretreatment. The potency and maximal responses of CGRP in the right atria in 30-day-old rats were significantly higher than in 60- and 90-day-old rats; however, no differences were found between control and capsaicin groups. The potency and maximal responses to carbachol and pilocarpine were not changed in all groups. The neonatal capsaicin treatment reduced by about 74% the CGRP content in the heart in all groups. In summary, capsaicin treatment in newborn rats produces a desensitization of chronotropic response mediated by beta-adrenoceptors in isolated right atria from 30-day-old rats possibly due to a massive release of catecholamines. In this paper we deal with an alternative approach to the description of massless particles of arbitrary spin. Within this scheme chiral components of a spinor field are regarded as fundamental quantities and treated as independent field variables. The free field Lagrangian is built up from the requirement of chiral invariance; This formulation is parallel to the neutrino theory and allows for a formulation that generalizes, to particles of arbitrary spin, the two-component neutrino theory. We achieve a spinor formulation of electrodynamics. In the case of the photon, the nonzero helicity components satisfy Weyl's equations and are associated to observables (electromagnetic fields) whereas the zero helicity components are related to nonobservables (electromagnetic potentials). Within the spinor formulation of electrodynamics the minimal coupling substitution follows as a consequence of the linearity of the interaction and the preference of nature for chiral components, that is, of the left-right asymmetry of nature.
