Age Hardening of Copper Antimony Alloys

A large number of alloys of varying percentages of copper and antimony were prepared. These alloys were treated in various ways which might be expected to produce age hardening. The effect of cold working was studied in the range where the alloys were malleable.

The Electrodeposition of Copper-Cobalt Alloys

An attempt was made to deposit a 50:50 copper-cobalt alloy from various sulfate electrolytes. No true 50:50 alloy was obtained but various mixtures of cobalt and copper rich crystals were deposited.

Hydrogen Overvoltage of Cadmium Bismuth and Antimony Bismuth Alloys

A method to measure hydrogen overvoltage was devel­oped and checked with metals of known overvoltage. Alloys of bismuth and antimony and of bismuth and cad­mium were prepared and their overvoltages determined.

The Solubility of Zinc Ethyl Xanthate in Water

A determination of the solubility of zinc ethyl xanthate was attempted by measuring the refractive index of a saturated solution of that salt. The small increment in refractive index effected by adding zinc ethyl xanthate to water in saturation quantities rendered measurements difficult and of dubious accuracy.

Electroplating of Chromium upon a Nickel Plated Magnesium Alloy

A nickel plating operation for magnesium alloys was investigated and proved successful in plating a small sample of a typical commercial magnesium alloy, Dowmetal J1.

The purpose of this thesis was to study the effects of cryolite and a mixture of cryolite and aluminum oxide on a chromite concentrate with special reference to the ability to break the bond between the ferrous iron and chromic oxide in the chromite.
