Aprendizagem na contemporaneidade: jogos digitais no novo cenário em que caminha o ensino de química

Having in sight the current inertia found on the school physical environments as well as on the High School learning methods used, digital games appear as a different tool to build the individuals'/students' knowledge and becomes a driving factor for this research. The usage of this media resource tries to rescue a stimulant type of learning focused on the students' experiences while getting them closer to Science, Technology and Society (STS). The usefulness of this method falls short, however, without the capacitated guidance of a teacher. A literature review has been made about the possible schooling that electronic/digital games provide; it also brings the opinions of students and teachers to help comprehend how the insertion of this new tool in the classroom happens, as well as its efficiency and acceptance. Having in sight the relationship between individuals and the preoccupations about the future of mankind, components of humanity's destiny have been evidenced in the teaching of Chemistry. It is possible to conclude that these games can, indeed, help in the teaching process, although it is necessary that they develop a main didactic role, linked to the teaching of concepts and content, or else become only educational for that matter. Using the tools given by digital games it is possible, for example, through playfulness, to teach the theory of many abstract models, mathematical equations and chemical formulas, making it possible then to grab the students' attention, to thrill them and to develop their participation based on the experience they so often already have with cell phones and personal computers

Identification of a new translocation that disrupts the RUNX1 gene in a patient with de novo acute myeloid leukemia

Translocation (8;21)(q22;q22)/RUNX1-RUNX1T1 is a molecular marker that is usually associated with a favorable outcome in both pediatric and adult patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The present report describes the results of hematologic, cytogenetic, and fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis of a case of AML with maturation in a 23-year-old woman. Cytogenetic analysis revealed a balanced translocation involving chromosomal band 21q22, which disrupts the RUNX1 gene, and 10q22, with the following karyotype: 45,X,-X,t(10;21)(q24;q22)[cp16]/46,XX [4]. Interphase FISH showed, in 67% of the 300 interphase nuclei analyzed, three signals for RUNX1 and two RUNX1T1, but no signals corresponding to RUNX1-RUNX1T1 fusion gene. These results were corroborated by RT-PCR, which revealed negative results for the amplification of RUNX1-RUNX1T1 fusion gene. The patient was refractory to conventional and salvage chemotherapy regimens and early relapsed after unrelated donor bone marrow transplantation (BMT), dying of pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, and sepsis on day +80 after BMT, 1 year after diagnosis.

Malva sylvestris, novo hospedeiro de Puccinia heterospora no Brasil

Observou-se a ocorrência de ferrugem em Malva sylvestris, causada por Puccinia heterospora, no Município de Garanhuns (PE). Esta espécie fúngica é microcíclica e apresenta apenas o estádio sexual, com a produção de teliósporos, com morfologia variada, podendo produzir, em menor número, teliósporos bicelulares do tipo Puccinia e, predominantemente teliósporos unicelulares do tipo Uromyces (mesosporos). A produção abundante de mesosporos é uma das características morfológicas mais marcantes da espécie. Essa ferrugem possui ampla distribuição geográfica, infectando plantas pertencentes à família Malvaceae. Este representa o primeiro registro dessa ferrugem sobre o gênero Malva no Brasil. Uma amostra de referência foi depositada no Herbário Dimitri Sucre Benjamin do Instituto de Pesquisas Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro (JBRJ-RB). São apresentadas a descrição da morfologia do fungo com base na amostra coletada, ilustrações e comentários sobre a distinção entre essa espécie e outras morfologicamente semelhantes. Validação de novo amostrador de furos de desmonte para fins de reconciliação

Mining operations around the world make extensive use of blasthole sampling for short-term planning, which has two undisputed advantages: (1) blastholes are closely spaced providing relatively high sampling density per ton, and (2) there is no additional cost since the blastholes must be drilled anyway. However, blasthole sampling usually presents poor sampling precision, and the inconstant sampling bias caused by particle size and density segregation is an even more serious problem, generally precluding representativeness. One of the main causes of this bias is a highly varying loss of fines, which can lead to both under- and over-estimation of grade depending on the ore type and the gangue. This study validates a new, modified sectorial sampler, designed to reduce the loss of fines and thereby increase sampling accuracy for narrow-diameter blasthole sampling. First results show a significantly improved estimation of gold grade as well as the minimization of the loss of fines.
