Introducción Agradecemos desde luego al Consejo de Redacción de la Revista de Historia el ofrecernos sus paginas para comentar dos importantes trabajos de Fernardo Mires relativos a la teoría y practica de la conquista y de la evangelización colonial en América: En nombre de la Cruz, Discusiones teológicas y políticas frente al holocausto de los indios (periodo de conquista) y La colonización de las almas. Ambos libros aparecen en el momento preciso en que diversos gobiernos e instituciones se aprestan a  celebrar dentro de 4 años el  5 Centenario del Descubrimiento de América. Fernardo Mires, entonces, ofrece sus trabajos como un aporte encaminado a una reflexión en torno a este hecho histórico y a sus consecuencias, que revisten como se sabe, una importancia de primer orden en la historia de la humanidad moderna y contemporánea.

ResumenEn la frontera de guerra del río Bío Bío se enfrentaron dos sociedades totalmente diferentes: la sociedad colonial hispánica contra los mapuches y otras sociedades indígenas. El análisis de los documentos sobre la peste general de viruelas que se desató en la región de frontera en 1791, permite al autor adentrarse en el conocimiento de aquellas sociedades.AbstractTwo completely different societies confronted each other on the military frontier of the Bío Bío River: Hispanic colonial society and that of the Mapuches and other Indian societies. An analysis of the documents on the widespread small pocks epidemic of the frontier region in 1791 allows the author to study those two societies in contact.

IntroducciónEl libro de Claudio Antonio Vargas Arias, El liberalismo, la Iglesia y el Estado de Costa Rica, (San José: Guayacán/ Alma Mater, 1991, 268 pp.) estudia las dos últimas décadas del siglo XIX, pero sin descuidar unos antecedentes que se demontan a la época colonial. Por la documentación utilizada y la interpretación propuesta, amerita un comentario detenido. Indicaré lo que considero sus contribuciones más interesantes, así como las aserciones que a mi juicio requieren ulteriores análisis.

Este artículo examin la producción intelectual de una organización cultural salvadoreña: el Ateneo, instituido en diciembre de 1912. Sin establecer distinciones de género, estudia la manera en que poesía, narrativa y ensayo visualizan la independencia centroamericana y su corolario, la vida republicana durante las primeras décadas independientes. Los miembros fundadores del Ateneo describen la independencia como acontecimiento gratuito, sin voluntad popular ni determinación política seria. Anotan que la independencia carece de un proceso continuo que vincule el primer grito (1811), con la doble declaración final (1821 y 1823). Las guerras independentistas contra la metrópolis colonial se reducen al mínimo. Las sustituyen conflictos bélicos republicanos, que convierten la nueva región independiente en “pirámides de calaveras que se alzan en las llanuras” (Dols Corpeño, 1914:36). Por un testimonio vivido, la conciencia pacifista radical de los primeros ateneístas denuncia guerras fratricidas sin más objetivo que el simple alcance del poder, en sucesos en los cuales nuestra actualidad celebra una apoteosis. “¿No veis cómo se matan hermanos con hermanos?”

Versión electrónica para multimedia del libro Corales Pétreos de Cuba publicado en 1980 por Nereida Martínez Estalella y Vasil Zlatarski. La colección de Corales pétreos se formó en el Instituto de Oceanología entre los años 1970 y 1975. En 2005 pasa a ser custodiada por el Acuario Nacional con el resto de las colecciones biológicas. La colección está formada por 4,990 ejemplares, 2 Clases Anthozoa e Hydrozoa , 16 familias, 30 géneros, 45 especies y 23 formas. Multimedia electronic book version of Stony Corals Cuba published in 1980 by Nereida Martínez Estalella and Vasil Zlatarski. The collection of stony corals are formed at the Institute of Oceanology between 1970 and 1975. Renumbered in 2005 by the National Aquarium guarded with other biological collections. The collection consists of 4,990 samples, 2 classes Anthozoa and Hydrozoa, 16 families, 30 genera, 45 species and 23 forms.

Este documento contiene los aspectos esenciales de una conferencia dictada por el autor en el marco de las actividades de la RELME 16 celebrada en la Habana, Cuba. El tema se refiere a las concepciones alternativas relativas al análisis de funciones en ambientes gráficos. En especial se analizan la importancia de esas concepciones en tanto procesos cognoscitivos que interfieren en los procesos de aprendizaje, las posibilidades de ser cambiadas por otras aceptables y su permanencia en la mente de los estudiantes a pesar de emplear diseños instruccionales para removerlas.

This paper presents and analyzes the first literary-journalistic chronicle writen and published by Miguel Hernández: “Defensa de Madrid. Madrid y las ciudades de Retaguardia”, during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). This chronicle is the first one of a series establishing a new and personal type of journalism: literary chronicles –poetical and political-. Miguel Hernandez published his masterpieces in different newspapers as a war reporter, with his own name and with a pen-name, playing roles of director and political commissar in different newspapers in the war-trenches. Thematically, this first article shows his personal and political engagement, as well as his desire and strategy to protect the capital city of Spain: Madrid. Methodologically, the analysis is an approached to linguistics in social sciences, which presents some of the personal characteristics and style of the chronist Miguel Hernández. Thus, it becomes patent that the so-called New Journalism (narrative and literary), which flourished in the 70s, had already been deeply and efficiently practiced by Miguel Hernández 40 years before. That is the reason why Miguel Hernández deserves to be added to the well-known collective of chronicle writers that have already been rescued to this moment. His literary style and quality are installing him in a outstanding position as well as pioneer of the genre nowadays known as New Journalism that in his case, it is politically engaged

In the framework of the European project Platform of Local Authorities and Communicators Engaged in Science (PLACES), we analyse the articulations between scientifi c communication, public perception of science, processes of citizen participation and apropiation of space, based on a case study of the inhabitants of Teruel city, Autonomous Community of Aragon, Spain. On the interrelationships between these issues, there are a number of contradictions, such as the difference between a high interest for information about science and technology and a low level of recognition and interaction with local institutions involved in those activities, the complex conceptualization of scientifi c space in relation to the “public-private” pair, or an articulation of a claiming civic rethoric and an insuffi cient co-responsibility. We conclude that, in a local context, the dimension of territoriality and, in particular, the identifi cation with the town, is a central mediation for activating citizen participation as part of processes of appropriation of space for setting up cities of scientifi c culture.

Contribution of co-operatives has been demonstrated since the 1970s as the main development line in agricultural production in Cuba. In contrast, there has been a late recognition of urban co-operatives, even if the need of transformations based on the realization of property in different territorial scenarios had been identified. The article analyses the reform processes launched since the first decade of the 21st century focusing on the nature of the initiatives fostering formation and promotion of nonagricultural co-operatives including follow up of their performance. The potential and limitations of the recent experiences are examined in order to reflect on the organizational processes and transformations from the point of view of their members. To conclude, some questions are posed about whether these co-operatives are capable of avoiding the impact of earlier employment circumstances and of developing strategies aimed at reinforcing voluntary membership and autonomy on which they are founded.

Environmental Psychology in Cuba is a new discipline that promotes a historical and cultural vision of mankind. Perception is one of the distinct processes that creates environmental consciousness. Depending on the perception of the environment, individuals interact with it, and vice versa. It means that a good perception of the significant elements of the environment also contributes to the formation of an environmental consciousness, in which perception is one of the main processes. In this transformation the school is one of the most important places for creating knowledge, skills, habits, and good attitudes towards the environment. As a result, the evaluation of the environmental perception development in students allows detecting weaknesses in the environmental education and proposing solutions based on specific problems. This study is based on different researches where the subjects were Cuban students from different educational levels and provides a first approach to the dynamic of the environmental perception development in these individuals. Recent researches have used some dimensions of the environment concept as development indicators: material, relational, intrapersonal, behavioural, cognitive, natural or ecological, and cultural. Generally speaking, different investigations show that school is the right context for environmental education.
