Terapia do diabetes mellitus em cães

Diabetes Mellitus is caracterized by a disturbance on endocrine pâncreas with reduction in serum levels of insulin. The deficiency or absence of insulin promotes alterations in the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipidis and proteins. The most common clinical signs of disease are polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia and loses of weight. The diagnosis is made based on clinical symptoms, with laboratory confirmation through persistent hyperglycemia on fasting and glycosuria. Treatment includes insulin therapy, diet, exercise and oral hypoglycemic agents in an attempt to reverse the catabolic effects associated with deficiency or antagonism of insulin and restore normal homeostasis of the metabolism of proteins, lipids and carbohydrates

The wood of the gender Eucalyptus occupies a prominence place in relation to other cellulose sources, due to its chemical composition, its low cost, abundance and availability. The dissolving pulp obtaining occurs basically starting from three stages: prehydrolysis of the wood following by cooking and finally by the bleaching process. In the dissolving pulp production is necessary a pretreatment stage for the hemicelluloses removal. Among the chemical cooking processes, the Kraft process is the most used for cellulosic pulps production starting from eucalyptus, in the additive presence or not. The anthraquinone uses in the pulping process has as main purposes increasing the delignification rate as well as protecting the pulp regarding the degradation of the polysaccharide chains. The ECF bleaching process consists of the purification of the pulp through bleaching agents, being excepted the elementary chlorine. The dissolving pulp is a pulp of high a-cellulose content and purity destined to the cellulose derivatives production as carboxymethyl cellulose, nitrocellulose and microcrystalline cellulose. The production of a certain product, as well as its final application, is determined by the chemical properties of the pulp. The present work had as purpose producing cellulosic pulp with kappa number around 9 destined to the production of dissolving pulp in way to evaluate the use of the anthraquinone (AQ) in the Kraft process according to the chemical properties of the obtained pulps. It has been still intended developing an effective technology of bleaching for the high purity and quality dissolving pulp production. The prehydrolysis was accomplished in laboratory rotational autoclave for 30 minutes at 170ºC in the water:wood rate 3,5:1 (L:kg). Intervenção Farmacêutica na Terapia Antirretroviral (TARV) em Pacientes Não cumpridores

No Brasil, 190.000 pacientes HIV+ utilizam a terapia antirretroviral. Embora a distribuição da medicação seja gratuita, o problema enfrentado é a não adesão do paciente à terapia, que deve ser igual ou superior a 95%. A não adesão causa o aumento da carga viral, queda dos linfócitos CD4+ e resistência viral à medicação. A complexidade da farmacoterapia, as reações adversas à medicação e a falta de conhecimento sobre HIV e os hábitos necessários para cumprir a terapia comprometem a adesão. Embora o acompanhamento farmacêutico seja eficaz na promoção do cumprimento da terapia, faltam estudos que avaliem esta influência na adesão a TARV. Propor um plano de Intervenções Farmacêuticas e Educativas para promover o cumprimento da TARV. Trata-se de um estudo prospectivo, qualitativo e semi-experimental, realizado com pacientes não cumpridores da terapia segundo o autorrelato. Foram realizados seis encontros, sendo o primeiro para anamnese, aplicação de questionários de avaliação da adesão e qualidade de vida e consulta a exames clínicos; os quatro seguintes para intervenções farmacêuticas e educativas, e o sexto para a avaliação dos mesmos critérios do primeiro encontro, e da satisfação quanto à intervenção. Os encontros contemplaram: intervenções educativas sobre a síndrome, a terapia e mudanças no estilo de vida, proposta de um instrumento para auxiliar na tomada da medicação e recomendação ao médico sobre a necessidade da avaliação laboratorial. Apenas dois pacientes participaram de todos os encontros. Estes pacientes apresentavam carga viral indetectável e contagem de linfócitos T CD4+ desejável, relataram não utilizar estratégias para lembrar-se de tomar a medicação e possuiam pouco conhecimento sobre a doença e a terapia. Pênfigo Foliáceo em cães

Pemphigus complex in animals is considered rare, but not so when compared with the occurrence of other autoimmune diseases. Pemphigus Foliaceus in dogs is the most common varieties of pemphigus and is characterized clinically by intraepidermal pustules, starting on the face and ears, pads, groin, and may become multifocal or generalized in six months. As the pustules are very fragile, the lesions usually found are secondary, which may range from dry to collarettes epidermal crusting, and nasal depigmentation. The diagnosis is difficult because presents sintomatology similar to other diseases and laboratory diagnosis more precise through the histopathological examination of pustules integrate (biopsy), which are rarely found. The treatment, although of the individual treatment regimen, is based on treating opportunistic diseases and immunosuppressing the animal in order to decrease the production of autoantibodies. The drugs of choice depend on the clinical presentation, however is usually oral prednisone and azathioprine in the dog and combined immunosuppressive therapy. Should make use daily until the disease is inactive and gradually decrease the dose until have the minimum effective dose, preferably on alternate days for the remission of the disease. Prognosis of pemphigus varies according to disease stage and treatment established. Pemphigus foliaceus is less serious nonetheless might be fatal without treatment

The microcytic and hypochromic anemia are the results of several pathologic conditions. They are the most prevalent forms of anemia in the Brazilian population , and frequently the clinical diagnosis depends on the laboratorial analysis. In many cases it is necessary to use specific techniques to determine if this anemia is due to iron deficiency or different types of thalassemia. This article shows the main technical applications used for differential diagnosis of microcytic and hypochromic anemia.
