L’escola els Àngels és el centre públic a nivell comarcal que atén a 57 alumnes amb necessitats educatives especials dels quals 15 realitzen una escolarització compartida a escoles ordinàries de les seves poblacions. Aquesta modalitat d’escolarització contempla la possibilitat que un alumne amb discapacitat pugui realitzar la seva jornada escolar a un centre ordinari i al centre d’educació especial a la vegada. Aquest treball doncs, neix i s’emmarca dins el context del Baix Empordà i més concretament en aquesta escola d’educació especial

Aquest projecte se centrarà en l'anàlisi i millora dels processos online i l'eliminació de les barreres d'accessibilitat i usabilitat del site d'una entitat financera. Per al compliment d'aquest objectiu ens fixarem en el formulari de contractació d'una hipoteca.

Teixint Cultures és un projecte de recerca-acció comunitari que intenta promoure des de I'educació d'adults, I'aprenentatge de la llengua catalana a partir dels recursos Iingüístics que les mares d'origen africà tenen en la seva llengua familiar. El programa atén a mares d'origen immigrat amb fills menors de tres anys no escolaritzats al seu càrrec (la majoria de les quals té altres fills en edat escolar que assisteixen a la tarda a la biblioteca per fer els deures escolars). Tot el projecte esta vehiculat a partir dels contes infantils. De fet, intenta recuperar els contes de tradició oral provinents del continent africà per posteriorment elaborar materials educatius bilingües (en català i en les seves llengües) que es puguin utilitzar com a llibres educatius de consulta, tant per les biblioteques públiques com pels centres educatius. El programa es realitza de forma setmanal, al llarg de dues hores, a la biblioteca pública infantil d'en Massagran de Salt. Les mares expliquen contes i llegendes rellevants de la seva infància en la seva llengua i, a partir de diferents activitats de narració, traducció i dramatització de les històries basades en una metodologia de a dual-language D, elaboren textos escrits i narracions orals en català i en la seva llengua. Posteriorment són les mateixes participants les que editen els contes a I'ordinador i elaboren digitalment un llibre de contes bilingüe. Les sessions s'han registrat en àudio i vídeo i hem estudiat el procés d'implementació del programa i les estratègies multilingües utilitzades per les participants, els educadors i voluntaris. Els resultats evidencien el progrés de les dones en I'aprenentatge del català, la modificació de les seves actituds lingüístiques i de la seva autoimatge, així com I ‘impacte positiu del programa a la comunitat pel que fa al reconeixement dels recursos lingüístics i culturals de les minories ètniques.

Placental malaria is a special form of malaria that causes up to 200,000 maternal and infant deaths every year. Previous studies show that two receptor molecules, hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulphate A, are mediating the adhesion of parasite-infected erythrocytes in the placenta of patients, which is believed to be a key step in the pathogenesis of the disease. In this study, we aimed at identifying sites of malaria-induced adaptation by scanning for signatures of natural selection in 24 genes in the complete biosynthesis pathway of these two receptor molecules. We analyzed a total of 24 Mb of publicly available polymorphism data from the International HapMap project for three human populations with European, Asian and African ancestry, with the African population from a region of presently and historically high malaria prevalence. Using the methods based on allele frequency distributions, genetic differentiation between populations, and on long-range haplotype structure, we found only limited evidence for malaria-induced genetic adaptation in this set of genes in the African population; however, we identified one candidate gene with clear evidence of selection in the Asian population. Although historical exposure to malaria in this population cannot be ruled out, we speculate that it might be caused by other pathogens, as there is growing evidence that these molecules are important receptors in a variety of host-pathogen interactions. We propose to use the present methods in a systematic way to help identify candidate regions under positive selection as a consequence of malaria.

In accordance with 19B.5 of the Code of Iowa, the 2005 Affirmative Action in Iowa report illustrates the progress made during fiscal year 2005 to balance the State's worforce, the challenges that the State must address and the effort that the Department of Administratie Services must lead in order to remove barriers that limit the hiring, retention and advancement of females, minorities and persons with disabilities in the State's workforce. Highlighted in the report are four departments that initiated proactive and innovative measures to address their workplace equal opportunity, affirmative action and diversity programs. Additionally, the Department of Administrative Services-Human Resources Enterprise outlines its plan to build on its past efforts as well as pursue new initiatives to partner with advocacy groups and reach out to the commuity more directely to enhance employment opportunities for females, minorities and persons with disabilities in State of Iowa employment.

For clarity and brevity, the Iowa team chose to use “Improving Transition Outcomes” as the project name, thus providing the acronym ITO. Major maintenance; health, safety, loss of use; and Americans with Disablities Act deficiencies at the Capitol Complex and statewide for twelve agencies and divisions participating in the Vertical Infrastructure Program in collaboration with the Governor's Vertical Infrastructure Advisory Committee, including the Department of Administrative Services; the Department of Commerce, Alcoholic Beverages Division; the Department of Corrections; the Department of Cultural Affairs; the Department of Education, including Iowa Public Television and Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services; the Department of Human Services; Iowa Law Enforcement Academy; the Department of Public Safety; Terrace Hill; Iowa Veterans Home and Iowa Workforce Development. The advisory committee meets on a monthly basis to review the progress of the work and to make recommendations on procedures and priorities. Additional information on major maintenance projects is available in the advisory committee's Eighth Annual Report to the Governor, dated December 15, 2006.

In accordance with 19B.5 of the Code of Iowa, the 2007 Affirmative Action in Iowa report illustrates the progress made during fiscal year 2007 to balance the State's workforce, the challenges that the State must address and the effort that the Department of Administrative Services must lead in order to remove barriers that limit the hiring, retention and advancement of females, minorities and persons with disabilities in the State's workforce. Highlighted in the report are the State's efforts to improve EEO/AA/Diversity training, coordinating targeted recruitment and partnering with disability organizations. Additionally, the Department of Administrative Services-Human Resources Enterprise outlines its plan to build on its past efforts and implement recommendations to remove barriers in the state selection processes and to improve its affirmative action and auditing processes.
