In this study, an attempt was made in order to measure and evaluate the eco-efficiency performance of a pultruded composite processing company. For this purpose the recommendations of World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WCSD) and the directives of ISO 14301 standard were followed and applied. The main general indicators of eco-efficiency, as well as the specific indicators, were defined and determined. With basis on indicators’ figures, the value profile, the environmental profile, and the pertinent eco-efficiency ratios were established and analyzed. In order to evaluate potential improvements on company eco-performance, new indicators values and eco-efficiency ratios were estimated taking into account the implementation of new proceedings and procedures, at both upstream and downstream of the production process, namely: i) Adoption of a new heating system for pultrusion die-tool in the manufacturing process, more effective and with minor heat losses; ii) Recycling approach, with partial waste reuse of scrap material derived from manufacturing, cutting and assembly processes of GFRP profiles. These features lead to significant improvements on the sequent assessed eco-efficiency ratios of the present case study, yielding to a more sustainable product and manufacturing process of pultruded GFRP profiles.

The eco-efficient, self-compacting concrete (SCC) production, containing low levels of cement in its formulation, shall contribute for the constructions' sustainability due to the decrease in Portland cement use, to the use of industrial residue, for beyond the minimization of the energy needed for its placement and compaction. In this context, the present paper intends to assess the viability of SCC production with low cement levels by determining the fresh and hardened properties of concrete containing high levels of fly ash (FA) and also metakaolin (MK). Hence, 6 different concrete formulations were produced and tested: two reference concretes made with 300 and 500 kg/m3 of cement; the others were produced in order to evaluate the effects of high replacement levels of cement. Cement replacement by FA of 60% and by 50% of FA plus 20% of MK were tested and the addition of hydrated lime in these two types of concrete were also studied. To evaluate the self-compacting ability slump flow test, T500, J-ring, V-funnel and L-box were performed. In the hardened state the compressive strength at 3, 7, 14, 21, 28 and 90 days of age was determined. The results showed that it is possible to produce low cement content SCC by replacing high levels of cement by mineral additions, meeting the rheological requirements for self-compacting, with moderate resistances from 25 to 30 MPa after 28 days.

Wireless mesh networks present an attractive communication solution for various research and industrial projects. However, in many cases, the appropriate preliminary calculations which allow predicting the network behavior have to be made before the actual deployment. For such purposes, network simulation environments emulating the real network operation are often used. Within this paper, a behavior comparison of real wireless mesh network (based on 802.11s amendment) and the simulated one has been performed. The main objective of this work is to measure performance parameters of a real 802.11s wireless mesh network (average UDP throughput and average one-way delay) and compare the derived results with characteristics of a simulated wireless mesh network created with the NS-3 network simulation tool. Then, the results from both networks are compared and the corresponding conclusion is made. The corresponding results were derived from simulation model and real-worldtest-bed, showing that the behavior of both networks is similar. It confirms that the NS-3 simulation model is accurate and can be used in further research studies.

The work presented in this paper belongs to the power quality knowledge area and deals with the voltage sags in power transmission and distribution systems. Propagating throughout the power network, voltage sags can cause plenty of problems for domestic and industrial loads that can financially cost a lot. To impose penalties to responsible party and to improve monitoring and mitigation strategies, sags must be located in the power network. With such a worthwhile objective, this paper comes up with a new method for associating a sag waveform with its origin in transmission and distribution networks. It solves this problem through developing hybrid methods which hire multiway principal component analysis (MPCA) as a dimension reduction tool. MPCA reexpresses sag waveforms in a new subspace just in a few scores. We train some well-known classifiers with these scores and exploit them for classification of future sags. The capabilities of the proposed method for dimension reduction and classification are examined using the real data gathered from three substations in Catalonia, Spain. The obtained classification rates certify the goodness and powerfulness of the developed hybrid methods as brand-new tools for sag classification

This paper provides a theoretical and empirical analysis of the relationship between airport congestion and airline network structure. We find that the development of hub-and-spoke (HS) networks may have detrimental effects on social welfare in presence of airport congestion. The theoretical analysis shows that, although airline pro ts are typically higher under HS networks, congestion could create incentives for airlines to adopt fully-connected (FC) networks. However, the welfare analysis leads to the conclusion that airlines may have an inefficient bias towards HS networks. In line with the theoretical analysis, our empirical results show that network airlines are weakly infl uenced by congestion in their choice of frequencies from/to their hub airports. Consistently with this result, we con firm that delays are higher in hub airports controlling for concentration and airport size. In this paper we analyse the decline of the Swiss corporate network between 1980 and 2000. We address the theoretical and methodological challenge of this transformation by the use of a combination of network analysis and multiple correspondence analysis (MCA). Based on a sample of top managers of the 110 largest Swiss companies in 1980 and 2000 we show that, beyond an adjustment to structural pressure, an explanation of the decline of the network has to include the strategies of the fractions of the business elites. We reveal that three factors contribute crucially to the decline of the Swiss corporate network: the managerialization of industrial leaders, the marginalization of law degree holders and the influx of hardly connected foreign managers.

Describe el Eco-rastreo Relámpago efectuado el día 12 de marzo de 1968, que comprendió la zona entre Punta Chérrepe y Punta Camaná. Participaron 15 embarcaciones pertenecientes a ocho compañías pesqueras de los puertos de Chimbote, Huacho, Callao, Tambo de Mora, Pisco y Atico. Asimismo, brinda recomendaciones para las próximas actividades de la flota pesquera dedicada a la pesca de anchoveta, a fin de llegar a zonas de mayor disponibilidad.

Da a conocer las observaciones tomadas durante el eco-rastreo relámpago, efectuado el día 23 de agosto de 1968, cubriendo las zona comprendida entre Punta Arcana y Punta San Juan hasta 60 y 80 millas de la costa. Brinda, a su vez, recomendaciones para las próximas actividades de la flota pesquera dedicada a la pesca de anchoveta, indicando rumbo y horas de navegación desde diferentes puertos, a fin de llegar a las zonas de mayor disponibilidad del recurso.

Viimeaikainen langattomien teknologioiden kehitys ja evoluutio johtaa uusiin mahdollisuuksiin business-to-business-teollisuussovellusten laatimisessa. Tämän työn tavoite on tutkia teknisten puitteiden ja perustan sekä teknologisen ennustamisen prosessia innovatiivisten langattomien sovellusten kehitysprosessissa. Työ keskittyy langattomiin teknologioihin - verkkoihin ja päätelaitteisiin. Työssä selvitetään saatavilla olevia ja tulevia langattomia verkkoteknologioita ja mobiilipäätelaitteita, arvioidaan niiden päätyypit, ominaisuudet, rajoitteet ja kehitystrendit, sekä määritellään pääasialliset tekniset ominaisuudet, jotka on huomioitava luotaessa langatonta ratkaisua. Tämä tieto vedetään yhteen jatkokäyttöä varten langattomien sovellusten päätelaitetietokantaan rakentamisen aikana. Työ tarjoaa kuvauksen päätelaitetietokannan suunnittelusta ja rakentamisesta sekä tutkii tietokantaa innovatiivisen esimerkkisovelluksen - Reaaliaikaisen On-Line Asiakaspalvelun - avulla.
