Selective reduction of NO by CH4 on an In-Fe2O3/H-ZSM-5 catalyst was investigated in the presence of excess oxygen. Compared with In/H-ZSM-5, the In-Fe2O3/H-ZSM-5 catalyst with high Fe2O3 contents showed higher activity in a wide range of reaction temperatures. It was found that the addition of Fe2O3 yielded a promotion effect on CH4 activation. The influence of water vapor on NO conversion was also investigated. The activity of the In/H-ZSM-5 catalyst has been found to be strongly inhibited by water vapor, while the In-Fe2O3/H-ZSM-5 catalyst remained fairly active in the presence of 3.3% steam. The thermal and hydrothermal stabilities of HZSM-5 zeolites with crystal sizes less than 100 nm have been studied by multinuclear solid-state NMR, combined with BET and XRD. As evidenced by Al-27 and Si-29 MAS as well as their corresponding cross-polarization/MAS NMR investigations, the thermal stability of nanosized HZSM-5 is not so good as that of microsized HZSM-5. This is due to two processes concerning dealumination and desilicification involved in the calcination of nanosized HZSM-5, while only the dealumination process is conducted in microsized HZSM-5 under the similar calcination process. The hydrothermal stability of nanosized HZSM-5 is, contrary to what was expected, not so bad as that of the microsized HZSM-5 in the course of steam treatment. The actual resistance of the hydrothermal stability to the crystal size of HZSM-5 can be ascribed to an active reconstruction of zeolitic framework through an effective filling of amorphous Si species into nanosized HZSM-5 during hydrothermal treatment. The secondary pores in the nanosized HZSM-5 zeolite have been observed for the first time via Xe-129 NMR spectroscopy using xenon as a probe; the location of non-framework Al can also be identified.

The silver catalyzed, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxides (NOx) by CH4, is shown to be a structure-sensitive reaction. Pretreatment has a great affect on the catalytic performances. Upon thermal treatment in inert gas stream, thermal induced changes in silver morphology lead to the formation of reduced silver species of clusters and particles. Catalysis over this catalyst indicates an initially higher activity but lower selectivity for the CH4-SCR of NOx Reaction induced restructuring of silver results in the formation of ill-defined silver oxides. This, in turn, impacts the adsorption properties and diffusivity of oxygen over silver catalyst, results in the decrease in activity but increase in selectivity of Ag-H-ZSM-5 catalyst for the CH4-SCR of NO.. Optical and near-infrared (near-IR) observations of the Type Ic supernova (SN Ic) 2004aw are presented, obtained from -3 to +413 d with respect to the B-band maximum. The photometric evolution is characterized by a comparatively slow post-maximum decline of the light curves. The peaks in redder bands are significantly delayed relative to the bluer bands, the I-band maximum occurring 8.4 d later than that in B. With an absolute peak magnitude of -18.02 in the V band the SN can be considered fairly bright, but not exceptional. This also holds for the U through I bolometric light curve, where SN 2004aw has a position intermediate between SNe 2002ap and 1998bw. Spectroscopically SN 2004aw provides a link between a normal SN Ic like SN 1994I and the group of broad-lined SNe Ic. The spectral evolution is rather slow, with a spectrum at day +64 being still predominantly photospheric. The shape of the nebular [O-I] lambda lambda 6300, 6364 line indicates a highly aspherical explosion. Helium cannot be unambiguously identified in the spectra, even in the near-IR. Using an analytical description of the light-curve peak we find that the total mass of the ejecta in SN 2004aw is 3.5-8.0 M-circle dot, significantly larger than that in SN 1994I, although not as large as in SN 1998bw. The same model suggests that about 0.3 M-circle dot of Ni-56 has been synthesized in the explosion. No connection to a GRB can be firmly established.

A procedure has been developed to grow ZSM-5 crystals in situ on a molybdenum (Mo) support. The high heat conductivity (138 W/mK) and high mechanical stability at elevated temperatures of the Mo support allow the application of ZSM-5 coatings in micro reactors for high temperature processes involving large heat effects. The effect of the synthesis mixture composition on ZSM-5 coverage and on the uniformity of the ZSNI-5 coatings was investigated on plates of 10 X 10 mm(2). Ratios of H2O/Si = 50, SUAI = 25, and TPA/Al = 2.0 were found to be optimal for the formation of uniform coatings of 6 g/m(2) at a temperature of 150 degrees C and a synthesis time of 48 h. Scaling up of the synthesis procedure on 72 Mo plates of 40 x 9.8 x 0.1 mm 3 resulted in a uniform coverage of 14.8 +/- 0.4 g/m(2). The low deviation per individual plate (

The crystallization of hierarchical ZSM-5 in the presence of the organosilane octadecyl-dimethyl-(3-trimethoxysilyl-propyl)-ammonium chloride as the mesoporogen was investigated as a function of time and temperature. The synthesis by this method proceeds in two steps. The rapid formation of a predominantly amorphous disordered mesoporous aluminosilicate precursor phase is followed by the formation of globular highly mesoporous zeolite particles involving dissolution of the precursor phase. It is difficult to completely convert the initial phase into the final hierarchical zeolite. This limits the amount of aluminium built into the MFI network and the resulting Bronsted acidity. In the presence of iron, more crystalline hierarchical zeolite is obtained. These Fe-containing zeolites are excellent catalysts for the selective oxidation of benzene to phenol. Their hierarchical pore structure leads to higher reaction rates due to increased mass transfer and increased catalyst longevity despite more substantial coke formation. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. A low temperature, isothermal, gas-phase, recyclable process is described for the partial oxidation of methane to methanol over Cu–ZSM-5. Activation in NO at 150 °C followed by methane reaction and steam extraction (both at 150 °C) allowed direct observation of methanol at the reactor outlet.
