As an effect of the imbalance caused by the damming of rivers and pollution, it has been observed a growing aquatic plants infestation in reservoirs for the generation of electricity. In addition to power generation, these sites have also been used for various other purposes, including recreation, attracting water and navigation. Thus it is important to evaluate these water bodies periodically, in order to verify the leading conditions to the growth of algae, plants and other organisms. In this sense, Remote sensing technology can be a valuable tool for mapping and monitoring the occupation of land in the vicinity of the water body and the optical properties of water, to provide subsidies for the effective management of these aquatic environments. This paper aims to perform the monitoring of the occurrence of aquatic plants in Salto Grande Hydropower Reservoir, located in Americana (SP) and, periodically, map the occupation of land in the vicinity of the water body, through multispectral images taken by sensors on the satellites Landsat series in seven consecutive years: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Different forms of human pressure may occur in the pipeline ranges, due to the large extensions and various configurations of land use, which can pass through the pipelines. Due to the dynamics of these pressures, it is necessary to monitor temporal changes of land use and cover the surface. Under this theme, appears as extremely important to use products and techniques of remote sensing, as they allow the identification of objects of the land surface that may compromise the security and monitoring of the pipeline, and allows the extraction of information conditions on land use at different periods of time. Based on the above, this paper aims to examine in a temporal approach, the process of urban expansion in the municipality of Duque de Caxias, located on the outskirts of the metropolitan area of the state of Rio de Janeiro, as well as settlement patterns characteristic of areas that the changes occurred in the period 1987 to 2010. We used the technique of visual analysis to perform the change detection and the technique of image classification, aimed at monitoring human pressure over a stretch of track pipeline Rio de Janeiro - Belo Horizonte, located in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The stages of work involved the characterization of the study area, urban sprawl and the existing settlement patterns, through the analysis of bibliographic data. The processing of Landsat 5 images and the application of the technique of change detection were performed in three scenes for the years 1987, 1998 and 2010, while the classification process was performed on the image RapidEye for the year 2010. Can be noted an increase in urban area of approximately 22.38% and the change of land cover from natural to built. This growth is concentrated outside to the area of direct influence of the duct, occurring in the area of indirect influence of the enterprise. O trabalho visou obter o uso do solo da microbacia do Ribeirão Duas Águas – Botucatu (SP), através de imagem de satélite, a determinação das Áreas de Preservação Permanentes (APPs) e os conflitos existentes na área. As bases cartográficas foram: a carta planialtimétrica em formato digital do IBGE de 1969 e imagem de satélite de 2011. O SIG-IDRISI Selva foi utilizado para realizar o georreferenciamento da imagem, geração dos buffer de APPs e o overlay para obtenção dos conflitos de uso além da confecção do mapa temático final. No CartaLinx foi feita a delimitação da área de estudo e dos elementos (da rede de drenagem e das áreas de uso e cobertura). O uso da terra mostrou que a microbacia vem sendo ocupada por 1149,67ha de florestas naturais; 1073,45ha de reflorestamento; 737,67ha de pastagens; 691,93ha com solo exposto e 132,33ha de campo sujo. Já quanto as APPs, elas correspondem a 366,34ha de toda a microbacia, e destas 89,32ha estãosendo usadas para outros fins evidenciando assim seu conflito de uso. Desta forma, a caracterização do uso e cobertura da terra da região possibilitou uma infinidade de informações sobre a tipologia de manejo aplicado e na identificação de problemas ambientais que se configuram em decorrência de seu uso. Quanto aos conflitos em APPs uma parte significante da área da microbacia está sendo utilizada inadequadamente, não respeitando a legislação do Código Florestal Brasileiro.

From the characterization of biophysical attributes of the watershed (slope, soil types, capacity to land use and land cover), this article, used the multi-criteria analysis method – Weighted Linear Combination, defined priority areas for adaptation to the use of land as to its capacity of use. With this methodological approach, were created for the watershed under study, four classes, formed by different combinations of biophysical attributes (discrete data), representing levels of priorities for agricultural land use. The Multicriteria Evaluation in a GIS is suitable for the mapping of priority areas to the suitability of land use in watersheds. The geospatial information on the biophysical environment, generated from the methodological procedures described in this article, has a high positive potential to guide the rational planning of the use of natural resources and territorial occupation, besides serving as a powerful instrument to guide policies and collective processes of decision on the use and land cover.

This work aimed to carry out a study of the environmental conditions of the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) in the sub-basin of Marimbondo Stream in the city of Jales (SP), through remote sensing techniques and taking as the basis Brazilian environmental legislation, the Forest Code Federal Law Nº 12,651/2012. Permanent Preservation Areas are inserted intrinsically improved conditions in the quantity and quality of water in the areas of springs and along water bodies in rural properties. Therefore, we also carried out studies on the new Forest Code compared to the old Federal Law Order no. 4771/1965 and the observation of its application in the area of sub-basin as well as carrying out the simulation. The results of this research allowed toverify the need for direct implementation of the monitoring measures with the Forest Code, and this water management tool in Brazil, which will ensure sustainable management practices of land use and land cover, with direct benefits to water production, mainly for public supply. Also there was a greater need for involvement by the public actors, the Basin Committee of the São José dos Dourados and the municipal government of Jales, in order to truly act aimed at the protection and maintenance of the water body Stream Wasp

The current study approaches the sugarcane culture expansion in Southwestern Goiás, especially in Mineiros, Quirinópolis and Rio Verde counties, which represent different times and responses to this process. The current logistics structure and future prospects for sugarcane and its derivatives transportation are studied at national level with emphasis to the aforementioned micro-region. Maps showing land use and land cover in three different years were generated from Landsat TM-5 satellite images and they were used to analyze the dynamics of changes in land use and in land cover. The region is marked by strong and rapid growth in the agricultural sector and its sugar-energy industry has been expanding in recent years, although with different aspects among its counties. Since it is a promising region in this sector, due to the favorable soil and weather conditions to the crop, the region requires more investment and planning in logistics to ensure production flow and to make it stronger within domestic and foreign markets.

A avaliação na alteração dos estoques de carbono na fitomassa agrícola ocorreu em uma área de 51.650 km2, compreendendo 125 municípios das regiões, central, norte e nordeste do Estado de São Paulo. Essas regiões possuem as cadeias de produção especializadas da cana-de-açúcar e das pastagens que estão presentes em praticamente quase todos os municípios da região e competem por área. Por meio da investigação do sensor Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) e da interpretação de imagens do sensor Thematic Mapper (TM), avaliou-se a mudança de uso e cobertura da terra nos anos de 1988 e 2015. A expansão a área de cana-de-açúcar acelerou-se significativamente em toda a região e nos últimos 27 anos a área cultivada passou de 1.085.900 ha (21% da área de estudo) para 1.966.445 ha (38% da área de estudo). As áreas de pastagens reduziram-se de 1.397.724 ha (26% da área de estudo) para 684.323 ha (13% da área de estudo). A análise dos dados revelou que a cana-de-açúcar é capaz de acumular 107,2 t.ha.-1.ano-1 de carbono na fitomassa, enquanto as pastagens cultivadas somente 11,7 t.ha.-1.ano-1 de carbono. Em 1988 toda a área de cana-de-açúcar retinha na fitomassa 116 milhões de toneladas de CO2 e em 27 anos esse acúmulo passou para 211 milhões de toneladas de CO2 .ano-1. Constata-se com isso que o carbono pode, ao menos em parte, ser recomposto pelos agroecossistemas durante o subsequente uso do solo. Dos 125 municípios avaliados, 118 deles apresentaram elevação do carbono acumulado na fitomassa devido a incorporação de áreas de pastagens por cana-de-açúcar, num total de 592 mil ha. Somente nas áreas de pastagens que foram substituídas por cana-de-açúcar nesses 27 anos, promoveu-se a remoção de 54 milhões de toneladas de CO2 da atmosfera.
