Modelagem matemática e os temas transversais na educação de jovens e adultos

Este trabalho teve como objetivo investigar em que termos a Modelagem Matemática, associada aos temas transversais, pode contribuir para melhorar o ensino-aprendizagem dos alunos em Matemática, na Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA). Para tal, foi realizada uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa através da observação participante, com dados coletados a partir de atividades contextualizadas e atividades de Modelagem, questionários, entrevistas semiestruturadas e diário de campo. O referido trabalho mostra os encaminhamentos metodológicos da pesquisa que foi realizada em uma escola pública, em uma turma de EJA (4ª etapa), no município de Castanhal (PA), onde foram aplicadas atividades envolvendo os temas transversais: saúde, trabalho e consumo e meio ambiente. Através de falas, comportamentos e atitudes dos sujeitos nas atividades, e trocas de experiências com a professora-pesquisadora, coletou-se os dados para posteriores análises com base em referenciais teóricos. Os resultados apontam que, apesar das dificuldades iniciais no processo, os alunos, sujeitos da pesquisa, evoluíram na aprendizagem de conteúdos matemáticos. Concluiu-se que estes resultados apontam para a importância da inserção da Modelagem como estratégia de ensino, e que apesar de alguns obstáculos para a sua implementação no ensino, ela pode proporcionar ao aluno da EJA, aquisição de conteúdos matemáticos e possibilidades de torná-lo um cidadão crítico e reflexivo.

Trabalho escravo e aliciamento: proposta para a regularização da relação jurídica de emprego

O presente estudo sobre o trabalho escravo está pautado na análise dos princípios gerais e constitucionais que norteiam a matéria, em especial, o princípio da dignidade humana, discutindo principalmente as hipóteses caracterizadoras do crime de redução do trabalhador à condição análoga à de escravo, os bens jurídicos tutelados, e as possíveis formas de combater essa prática. A partir desse referencial, aprofundamos a pesquisa nas formas de atuação preventiva do Estado, como meio de propiciar a inclusão social dos trabalhadores. Ao abordar a problemática do trabalho escravo, buscamos discutir mecanismos de inclusão social, por meio de ações capazes de inibir a prática do trabalho escravo no momento do aliciamento da mão-de-obra. Esta pesquisa tem por finalidade principal chamar a atenção para o problema que vivenciamos ainda hoje no meio rural brasileiro, demonstrando a necessidade de se agir efetivamente contra esta prática secular que é submeter o ser humano a condições subumanas de vida, por meio da superexploração do trabalho, com vistas a coibir este crime desde o momento do aliciamento, e não apenas por meio de ações repressivas como o resgate. Em outras palavras, defendemos a necessidade de atuação no momento a priori da escravidão – na arregimentação. O estudo está dividido em três capítulos, o primeiro destina-se à compreensão teórico-jurídica do trabalho escravo, analisando o crime sob as óticas internacional, constitucional e penalista; o segundo trata da análise das formas de atuação repressiva do Estado, trazendo entendimentos jurisprudenciais trabalhistas e penais a respeito do tema, cujas decisões judiciais foram selecionadas principalmente no Estado do Pará; e o terceiro capítulo traz o estudo de métodos de atuação preventiva, como forma de combate ao trabalho escravo e de promoção da inclusão social, percorrendo detalhadamente as características do aliciamento ilegal de trabalhadores, propondo, ao final, a regularização prévia da relação de trabalho, transformando o aliciamento ilegal em contrato de trabalho regular.

Estradas, alagados antrópicos, peixes e a fragmentação de redes fluviais em uma paisagem agrícola do Nordeste do Pará

Estradas cruzando riachos (ou igarapés) por estruturas mal planejadas podem ocasionar alagamentos em segmentos do canal à montante do cruzamento, transformando este trecho de um ambiente lótico em um lêntico. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo estudar a diversidade e a estrutura trófica funcional de comunidades de peixes em alagados de origem antrópica na região nordeste do Pará. Estes alagados são formados pelo cruzamento de estradas sobre a rede fluvial, com maiores ou menores impactos sobre sua conectividade hidrológica, assunto que é largamente ignorado em sistemas lóticos neotropicais. Foram amostrados dezoito trechos de canais em sete igarapés nas bacias dos rios Maracanã e Marapanim, sendo seis deles cruzados por estradas, e um não, como referência. Todos igarapés estão localizados na região nordeste do estado do Pará, sendo cinco nos municípios de Igarapé-Açu e Marapanim, inseridos em uma paisagem agrícola, e dois no município de São Francisco do Pará, inseridos em uma matriz florestal. Dos seis igarapés cruzados por estradas, cinco apresentaram a formação de amplas áreas alagadas. Nestes locais, foram selecionados três trechos do sistema fluvial para amostragem de peixes: um à montante do alagamento, um no próprio alagamento e outro à jusante. No igarapé que não apresentava alagamento, selecionou-se, apenas dois trechos: montante e jusante do cruzamento da estrada sobre o canal. Os ambientes selecionados foram amostrados uma vez, entre junho e novembro de 2010, por técnicas de censo visual, em segmentos de 200 metros de extensão. Foram registradas 73 espécies distribuídas em seis ordens, 26 famílias e 63 gêneros. Characiformes (38,4%) e Siluriformes (31,5%) foram as ordens mais representativas em números de espécies. Characidae, com 15 espécies (20,5%), e Cichlidae, com 10 (13,7%) foram as famílias mais representativas em número de espécies. Estas espécies foram organizadas em 18 grupos tróficos funcionais (GTF), formados de acordo com a tática alimentar observada com maior frequência para cada espécie e sua distribuição espacial observada durante as sessões de mergulho ad libitum. Os alagamentos impuseram modificações na estrutura biótica e física dos igarapés. Estes ambientes apresentaram menor número de espécies, maior abundância e menor diversidade de espécies e de GTF em relação aos trechos à jusante e à montante. Os alagamentos apresentaram maior largura, profundidade e temperatura; e menor velocidade e oxigênio de dissolvido quando comparados aos trechos de igarapés à montante e à jusante. O uso da abordagem de grupos tróficos funcionais facilitou na inferência de como o processo de fragmentação da rede fluvial interfere na estrutura da assembleia de peixes estudada.

A NEURAL NET FOR EXTRACTING KNOWLEDGE FROM NATURAL-LANGUAGE DATA-BASES

The present paper introduces a new model of fuzzy neuron, one which increases the computational power of the artificial neuron, turning it also into a symbolic processing device. This model proposes the synapsis to be symbolically and numerically defined, by means of the assignment of tokens to the presynaptic and postsynaptic neurons. The matching or concatenation compatibility between these tokens is used to decided about the possible connections among neurons of a given net. The strength of the compatible synapsis is made dependent on the amount of the available presynaptic and post synaptic tokens. The symbolic and numeric processing capacity of the new fuzzy neuron is used here to build a neural net (JARGON) to disclose the existing knowledge in natural language data bases such as medical files, set of interviews, and reports about engineering operations.

Efeito da adição de butanol na biodegradabilidade da gasolina e do óleo diesel

The increase in the oil price and the current trend of using renewable raw materials for the production of chemicals renew the interest in the production of biobutanol that, produced by fermentation of agricultural raw materials, can be used as a component of gasoline and diesel. With the commercialization of new fuels, environmental damages due to spills can occur. Among other techniques, the clean-up of these contaminated areas can be achieved with bioremediation, a technique based on the action of microorganisms, which has the advantage of turning hazardous contaminants into non toxic substances such as CO2, water and biomass. Thus, bearing in mind the use of biobutanol in the near future as a gasoline extender and due to the lack of knowledge of the effects of butanol on the biodegradation of gasoline, this work aimed to assess the aerobic biodegradation of butanol/gasoline blends and butanol/diesel (20% v/v), being the latter compared to the ethanol/gasoline blend and biodiesel/diesel (20% v/v), respectively. Two experimental techniques were employed, namely the respirometric method and the redox indicator 2,6-dichlorophenol indophenol (DCPIP) test. In the former, experiments simulating the contamination of natural environments were carried out in biometer flasks, used to measure the microbial CO2 production. The DCPIP test assessed the capability of four inocula to biodegrade the fuel blends. The History of the German-Russian Colony in Lincoln

Standing at the corner of Tenth and O streets in the city of Lincoln, Nebraska, any week-day morning between 7:30 and 8 o'clock, you may see pass by you from ten to twenty women with little black woolen shawls on their heads. Ask any citizen who they are, and ninety-nine times in one hundred he will tell you they are "Russians" who live down on the bottoms, that they are going out into the offices and homes to wash and scrub and clean house, and that their husbands are street laborers or work for the railroad. He may then grow confidential and tell you that he "has no use for these people", that "they are only half human", and that he "would just as soon see the Chinese come here as those people". As a matter of fact the greater part of his information is incorrect, partly through race prejudice but chiefly through ignorance of their history. These people, of whom there are about 4,000 in the city (Including "beet fielders"), are Germans, not Russians: they are Teutons, not Slavs; they are Lutheran and Reformed, not Greek Catholics. To be sure they and their ancestors lived in Russia for over one hundred years and they came here directly from the realm of the Czar whoso bona fide citizens they were—but they never spoke the Russian language, never embraced the Greek religion, never intermarried with the Russians, and many of their children never saw a Russian until they left their native village for the new home in America. They despise being called "Russians" just as an Italian resents "Dago"; a Jew, "Sheeny"; and a German, "Dutchman". Ask them where they came from and most of the children and not a few of the grown people will say, "Germany". If you pursue your questioning as to what part of Germany, they will tell you "Saratov" or "Samara" - two governments in the eastern part of Russia on the lower course of the Volga river. The misconceptions concerning the desirability of these German-Russians as citizens arise from their unprogressiveness as compared with those Germans who come to us directly from the mother country. During their century's sojourn in Russia they have been out of the main current of civilization, a mere eddy in the stream of progress. They present a concrete example of arrested development, The characteristics which differentiate them from other Germans are not due to an inherent lack of capacity but to different environment. Notwithstanding this, the German- Russians have some admirable qualities. They bring us large stores of physical energy and an almost unlimited capacity for work. The majority of them are literate although the amount of their education is limited. They are thrifty and independent, almost never applying for public aid. They are law abiding, their chief offenses being those which are traceable to their communal life in Russia. They are extremely religious, all their social as well as spiritual life being bound up in the church which they support right royally. To be sure, the saloon gets their vote (the prohibition vote among them is increasing); but "was not the first miracle that Christ performed the turning of water into wine? If they would shut up the shows (theaters), they wouldn't need to shut up the saloons". The object of this paper is to give the historical setting in which the German-Russians have lived as one means to a better understanding and appreciation of them by our own citizens.

Cloning and characterization of bifunctional enzyme farnesyl diphosphate/geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase from Plasmodium falciparum

Abstract Background Isoprenoids are the most diverse and abundant group of natural products. In Plasmodium falciparum, isoprenoid synthesis proceeds through the methyl erythritol diphosphate pathway and the products are further metabolized by farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FPPS), turning this enzyme into a key branch point of the isoprenoid synthesis. Changes in FPPS activity could alter the flux of isoprenoid compounds downstream of FPPS and, hence, play a central role in the regulation of a number of essential functions in Plasmodium parasites. Methods The isolation and cloning of gene PF3D7_18400 was done by amplification from cDNA from mixed stage parasites of P. falciparum. After sequencing, the fragment was subcloned in pGEX2T for recombinant protein expression. To verify if the PF3D7_1128400 gene encodes a functional rPfFPPS protein, its catalytic activity was assessed using the substrate [4-14C] isopentenyl diphosphate and three different allylic substrates: dimethylallyl diphosphate, geranyl diphosphate or farnesyl diphosphate. The reaction products were identified by thin layer chromatography and reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography. To confirm the product spectrum formed of rPfFPPS, isoprenic compounds were also identified by mass spectrometry. Apparent kinetic constants KM and Vmax for each substrate were determined by Michaelis–Menten; also, inhibition assays were performed using risedronate. Results The expressed protein of P. falciparum FPPS (rPfFPPS) catalyzes the synthesis of farnesyl diphosphate, as well as geranylgeranyl diphosphate, being therefore a bifunctional FPPS/geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase (GGPPS) enzyme. The apparent KM values for the substrates dimethylallyl diphosphate, geranyl diphosphate and farnesyl diphosphate were, respectively, 68 ± 5 μM, 7.8 ± 1.3 μM and 2.06 ± 0.4 μM. The protein is expressed constitutively in all intra-erythrocytic stages of P. falciparum, demonstrated by using transgenic parasites with a haemagglutinin-tagged version of FPPS. Also, the present data demonstrate that the recombinant protein is inhibited by risedronate. Conclusions The rPfFPPS is a bifunctional FPPS/GGPPS enzyme and the structure of products FOH and GGOH were confirmed mass spectrometry. Plasmodial FPPS represents a potential target for the rational design of chemotherapeutic agents to treat malaria.

"Orationi al cepo overo a la scala": le laude della Confraternita bolognese di S. Maria della morte

La Confraternita bolognese di S. Maria della Morte, istituita nel 1336 sull’onda della predicazione del frate domenicano Venturino da Bergamo, è la più antica e meglio documentata compagnia italiana ‘di giustizia’. Possedeva un laudario conosciuto attraverso 12 manoscritti redatti tra XV e XVI secolo, dove le laude seguono il “confortatorio” che insegnava ai confratelli come relazionarsi col condannato e prepararlo a morire in perfetto spirito cristiano. Nelle laude l’identificazione poetica tra Cristo e il condannato era funzionale allo scopo di convertire il criminale in santo, convincendolo che la sua morte aveva una funzione redentrice per sé e la città stessa. L’assoluzione plenaria poteva essere ottenuta solo tramite una morte completamente accettata e un pentimento sincero. La dissertazione indaga le tematiche espresse dalle laude e le motivazioni forti che spingevano i confortatori a intraprendere questa peculiare attività assistenziale.

Synthesis, characterization and catalytic performances of ruthenium-based catalysts for the acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling of butanol

A growing interest towards new sources of energy has led in recent years to the development of a new generation of catalysts for alcohol dehydrogenative coupling (ADC). This green, atom-efficient reaction is capable of turning alcohol derivatives into higher value and chemically more attractive ester molecules, and it finds interesting applications in the transformation of the large variety of products deriving from biomass. In the present work, a new series of ruthenium-PNP pincer complexes are investigated for the transformation of 1-butanol, one of the most challenging substrates for this type of reactions, into butyl butyrate, a short-chain symmetrical ester widely used in flavor industries. Since the reaction kinetics depends on hydrogen diffusion, the study aimed at identifying proper reactor type and right catalyst concentration to avoid mass transfer interferences and to get dependable data. A comparison between catalytic activities and productivities has been made to establish the role of the different ligands bonded both to the PNP binder and to the ruthenium metal center, and hence to find the best catalyst for this type of reaction.

Se presentan las bases antropológicas del juego (Caillois) antes de tratar la ludopatía desde un enfoque clínico (Valleur y Bucher). Sigue un análisis narratológico que tiende a demostrar que algunos de los síntomas de la adicción al juego se alojan en una escritura ritmada por la asociación lúdica "diferencia y repetición" (Saer, La narración-objeto), y en la cual destacan figuras como la elipsis y la analepsis, que hacen de la forma literaria una suerte de espejo del juego patológico.

El concepto de misericordia divina ha pasado por diversos estadios en su evolución, pero las concepciones de la religión cristiana y de la religión pagana no siempre se oponen. En este artículo se examinan las fuentes filosóficas (Aristóteles, filosofía helenística), literarias (Sófocles, Homero) y epigráficas, hallándose significados variados, a veces superpuestos temporalmente, y también el uso del concepto en las plegarias paganas y en las peticiones oficiales. Si bien el racionalismo estoico considera a la misericordia como incompatible con la sabiduría y la justicia, el cristiano Lactancio recupera el valor de las pasiones utilizadas apropiadamente, marcando un hito en la conversión de una emoción pagana en una virtud y un deber cristianos
