Recent research has indicated that the pupil diameter (PD) in humans varies with their affective states. However, this signal has not been fully investigated for affective sensing purposes in human-computer interaction systems. This may be due to the dominant separate effect of the pupillary light reflex (PLR), which shrinks the pupil when light intensity increases. In this dissertation, an adaptive interference canceller (AIC) system using the H∞ time-varying (HITV) adaptive algorithm was developed to minimize the impact of the PLR on the measured pupil diameter signal. The modified pupil diameter (MPD) signal, obtained from the AIC was expected to reflect primarily the pupillary affective responses (PAR) of the subject. Additional manipulations of the AIC output resulted in a processed MPD (PMPD) signal, from which a classification feature, PMPDmean, was extracted. This feature was used to train and test a support vector machine (SVM), for the identification of stress states in the subject from whom the pupil diameter signal was recorded, achieving an accuracy rate of 77.78%. The advantages of affective recognition through the PD signal were verified by comparatively investigating the classification of stress and relaxation states through features derived from the simultaneously recorded galvanic skin response (GSR) and blood volume pulse (BVP) signals, with and without the PD feature. The discriminating potential of each individual feature extracted from GSR, BVP and PD was studied by analysis of its receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The ROC curve found for the PMPDmean feature encompassed the largest area (0.8546) of all the single-feature ROCs investigated. The encouraging results seen in affective sensing based on pupil diameter monitoring were obtained in spite of intermittent illumination increases purposely introduced during the experiments. Therefore, these results confirmed the benefits of using the AIC implementation with the HITV adaptive algorithm to isolate the PAR and the potential of using PD monitoring to sense the evolving affective states of a computer user.

The presence of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in regular schools has increased and with it, the need to develop interventional strategies that enhance their learning. One of the tools that can facilitate this process is Mediated Learning, defined as an interaction style where the teacher selects, modifies, enhances, and interprets environmental stimuli in order to promote student learning. In recent years several studies have used the Mediated Learning Experience Scale (MLE; Lidz, 1991) as a tool to assess the mediator behavior. These studies have suggested that the EAM Scale can provide important guidelines for planning educational interventions, particularly those involving students with special needs. In order to extend these findings, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of an intervention based on the Mediated Learning Experience on social / academic skills of a child with ASD, enrolled in the 4th grade of a regular elementary school. This collaborative study was held in the city of Parnamirim, state of Rio Grande do Norte, in 2014. A 9-year old boy with ASD and his teacher participated in the study. The research used a quasi-experimental A-B design (baseline and treatment) to evaluate the teacher's behavior. Qualitative procedures were also used to analyze the dyad´s responses. Teacher and student behaviors were observed in three school routines during baseline. Based on the results of this phase, a training program was designed for the teacher. Dyad behavior was analyzed again after training in the same routines. The results of this phase showed qualitative and quantitative changes in levels of teacher mediation. Additionally, data indicated that the child enhanced his social and academic skills during the intervention.

The aim of this study was to understand how does the teaching learning process of the agronomy professor from Universidade Federal de Uberlândia occurs, analyzing the relationship among training, knowledge and these professors professional identity. The questions which guided the research were: How does the professional identity of these professors are developed in the teaching learning process? Which are the main formation factors that influences this process? Which are the agronomy professors knowledge and how were them built and learned by these professionals in college? This is a research with a qualitative approach, in which most of the data was collected with the professors, through two questionnaires, a simplified and an in-depth one, as well as documents that depict the history of the institute and of the Agronomy department. To guide analysis, we have used, more than the scientific production in the area, the authors Cunha (2008), Tardif (2002), Pimenta (2005), Melo (2009, 2012), Malusá (2005), Pachane (2009), Magalhães (2012), Dubar (2005), Imbernón (2002),Nunez andRamalho (2008), Almeida andPimenta (2012) PimentaandAnastasiou (2002), Cavallet (1999) Pachane (2006), Behrens (2007) Isaia (2008), Malusá (2012) and Nóvoa (1999). The analysis indicated that the teaching learning process of the agronomy professor occurs since college, with the option of been a professor, and throughout their teaching career. Their challenges are related to work conditions, although, the dilemmas between the practices related to the conceptions of traditional and progressive pedagogy can be seen in their class, teaching and teaching learning process conception. Classes are considered by professors as an interaction place but also as a knowledge transference place. This research identifies the necessity of promote cooperation between teachers, so that, the collective and integrated work in formative spaces teachers will have the opportunity to develop the knowledge necessary for teaching. The implementation of institutional initial and continuous formation, through direct dialogue between undergraduate, graduate and training and professional development programs for teachers, with better work conditions will reflect in the constant improvement of training development within universities.

The research was conducted during the developing of a Project from the Program of Extension - Programa de Extensão UFU/Comunidade (PEIC) in a municipal school located in a country zone from Uberlândia-MG. The research was constituted by a series of activities with students from the ninth year of the Fundamental Education, Middle School. The main focus is the work developed by two bachelors of Mathemactics teaching from the Federal University from Uberlândia who were part of the PEIC team. This present research intends to answer the following question: How the extension project “Information technology and communication on Mathematics problem resolution in country zone schools” has contribited to reinforce and to (re)criate the fomative experiences of students from the Mathematics teaching course who have developed such project? The presente study is from a qualitative nature and has made use of the partaker searching methodology. The presente paper was organized in three chapters. On chapter I evidence is given to theoretical discussion made, having as main references the works of Larrosa, Ponte e Shön. Chapter II brings the description of the three activities that were developed and aplied during the PEIC Project, which are: Problems in the Park, Inaccessible Hight and Lili Game. On chapter III, the data analysis is presented. The data was obtained through instruments of registration such as: camera recording, photografic material, meetings reports, field notes, surveys and semi-structured interviews. The initial hypothesis aim is on the fact that the participation on extention projects during the graduation course can bring rich contribution for the teachers to be, since it’s going to provide the knowledge and chalenge close to the one from the future profession. With the analysis of the obtained results from the colected data, it was possible to conclude that the PEIC has provided the bachelors in Mathematics teching the opportunity of recreate and potenciate their formative experiences. Such opportunity happened in situations that involved, for example, planning makings, development of colective work, softwares usage, different school spaces and the direct interaction with school bureaucracy. Supported by digital media, distance learning has increased the possibilities of interaction, easing the process of pedagogical mediation in time and space. From this perspective, the access to professional education has been democratized: technical knowledge is customized in a Learning Managing System and later delivered by means of mediated distance education courses. Structured in a sequence of articles, this dissertation addresses the problem of the pedagogical mediation process performed by on-line tutor teachers at Rede e-Tec Brasil of the Instituto Federal Sul- rio-grandense (IF-Sul), Campus Visconde da Graça (CAVG). This model of education establishes that on-line tutor teachers are hired to work with all the curriculum courses of a technical program for two years. If, on the hand, it allows these teachers to know the reality of their students well, on the other hand it demands them a pedagogical effort of appropriation and mediation of the specific contents guiding the various courses that comprise the curriculum of each program. This research aimed to find out how on-line tutor teachers appropriate expertise from technical programs to mediate it with their students in a pedagogical way. The explanatory hypothesis given is that by working together and sharing experience with the teacher/researcher, on-line tutor teachers will be able to appropriate of curricular knowledge and pedagogically mediate it with their students afterwards. To support our theoretical propositions, a network of conversation was established with authors like Humberto Maturana, Pierre Lévy, Lee Shulman, and Maurice Tardif through the concepts of culture in networks of conversation, collective intelligence, pedagogical content knowledge, and teacher training. As a methodological procedure, the technique of the Collective Subject Discourse (CSD), by Lefèvre and Lefèvre, was found to offer a strategy of qualitative approach to analyze the recurrences seen in the speech of on-line tutor teachers. The study shows that a recursive network of conversation between the teacher/researcher and the on-line tutor teacher enables the appropriation of specific and technical knowledge required for the process of pedagogical mediation with students. The experience of sharing a consensual professional relationship, in which one respects and accepts the other as a way of establishing a collective intelligence, encourages collaborative work in the tutoring environment, helping professionalize the process of pedagogical mediation in distance professional education at IFSul CAVG.

The objective of this paper is to present an analysis of the planning and replanning of the teacher´s work in response to difficulties that occur in teacher-student interaction in the process of teaching and learning in and outside the classroom. The data was produced by means of the selfconfrontation method and the analysis is based on theoretical foundations coming from the ergonomics of teaching activity and from the clinic of activity. The results reveal that lack of reading on students´ part leads the teacher to replan the class at the very moment it is taking place, which, in spite of revealing the teacher´s experience with this kind of situation, ends up contributing to diminish the quality of the teaching and learning process.

° Ciclo do Ensino Básico. ABSTRACT: This study’s aim is to contribute to the understanding of the professional knowledge of the Maths teacher, involved in the development of investigative tasks in the classroom, focusing four guiding questions: (i) how do teachers give practical way to the investigative tasks, having in mind the lesson plans and lesson execution? (ii) Which difficulties do the teachers face when developing the investigative tasks in the classroom? (iii) How does the teachers' didactical knowledge influence the development of the investigative tasks? (iv) How is the teachers' didactical knowledge influenced by the development of the investigative tasks? The theorical framework is based on two broad themes of the study: teacher's professional knowledge (discussing its nature, structure and contents) and the investigative tasks (whose nature and use in the classroom is deepened). Besides, empirical research in what concerns to the professional knowledge of the teacher involved in the development of investigative tasks is also added. The study assumed an interpretative approach, materialised through two case studies, one of a primary school teacher, the other of a preparatory school Maths teacher. The teachers worked in cooperation with the researcher on the investigative tasks, which, until then, they weren't familiar with, planning, teaching and thinking about a set of lessons with tasks of this kind. Data were collected during the work meetings, as well as in the lessons and also in interviews to each one of the teachers. A transversal appreciation of the cases allows us to draw some conclusions. The possibility of integrating the programmatic contents seems to be the main criteria for the selection of the tasks by the teachers. ln the planning, the main priority of the task is the inventory of contents, aiming to reduce the level of uncertainty in what concerns to eventual reactions of the students. ln what concerns to the conduction of the investigative tasks, the introduction phase was the shortest, fulfilling the aim of leading to the understanding of the proposal of the task by the students and also to reinforce some methodological aspects of the investigative work. The task's development phase was the one the preparatory school teacher dedicated more importance, though it was also valued by the primary school teacher. ln this aspect, the teachers consider that their role is to follow and lead the students’ work, helping them to overtake eventual obstacles, keeping the questioning attitude. ln what concerns the discussion phase, the big concern of the teachers is to reassure the understanding of the ideas presented by the students. However, there are two different strategies: while the primary school teacher, who really valued this phase, stimulates the student-student interaction, giving them the responsibility of validating/rejecting the presented conjectures; the preparatory school teacher centers around himself all this phase, assuming the responsibilities of correcting the presented ideas. The development of the investigative tasks is influenced by the didactical knowledge, and it is determinant the knowledge about the students and about the way they learn and the instructional knowledge. The development of the investigative tasks influences several components of the didactical knowledge of the teacher, allowing him/her to reinforce his mathematical knowledge, developing a more complete knowledge about the students and the way they learn. Finally, the lessons execution with investigative tasks provides the teacher with important data about how to plan and conduct open nature tasks, in order to take the biggest advantage of their potential.
