Tutkielman tavoitteena oli tutkia, millaista arvoa digitaalinen painatusmenetelmä tuo yrityksen arvoverkostoon. Teoriaosassa tavoite oli rakentaa digitaalipainatuksen arvoverkostoa tutkien kirjallisuutta liittyen arvoketju- ja arvoverkostoajatteluun. Myös aiemmat tutkimukset ja kirjallisuus liittyen digitaalipainatukseen rakensivat osaltaan teoreettisen viitekehyksen muodostumista. Aiemmat tutkimukset digitaalisen painomenetelmän mahdollisuuksista ovat hyvin tekniikkapainotteisia, siksi tämä tutkimus liittyy enemmän kaupallisiin mahdollisuuksiin. Empiirinen osio tutkimuksesta tehtiin kvalitatiivisena case -tutkimuksena, johon sisältyi yksi alayksikkö. Eli tutkittiin yhtä casea, jossa oli kaksi osapuolta. Tutkielma liittyy kiinteästi Stora Enson ja Valion väliseen digipainatus-projektiin, joka käynnistettiin helmikuussa 2001. Tutkielman teemahaastatteluihin valittiin henkilöt tästä projektiryhmästä. Projektiryhmän mielipiteitä ja havaintoja hyödyntäen pyrittiin löytämään tukea ja eroavaisuuksia teoriaosan muodostamaan viitekehykseen ja informaatioon. Empiirinen osuus tuki teoriaosassa esittämiä väittämiä hyvin, mutta myös muutamia uusia havaintoja esiintyi. Tutkimusongelmaan löydettiin monia vastauksia: digitaalipainatus luo arvoa yrityksen jakeluketjuun vähentämällä varastoja ja nopeuttamalla toimituksia. Jäätelöpakkausten markkinointi on aivan uuden haasteen edessä, koska mahdollisuudet kasvavat digitaalipainatuksen myötä huomattavasti. Kartongin valmistajalle arvo tulee parempien tuotteiden kautta, joista saa myös paremman tuoton. Digitaalipainatuksen arvoverkostossa tulee tapahtumaan muutoksia jatkossa, eri osapuolten roolit saattavat muuttua radikaalisti. Kuka hoitaa painatusta ja miten?

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate Job Definition Format (JDF) and how it could be used in printing house's systems. JDF is a very new information exchange standard, and it gives a lot of opportunities to the printing industry. JDF is the first standard, that has an ability to carry a print job from genesis through completion. Besides, JDF has an ability to bridge the communication gap between production and management information services. In the study of JDF we focused on examining how JDF will effect on printing industry .The thesis also examines printing houses's systems ability to work with JDF standard. The result of the study is a comprehensive picture, what is JDF. We also researched the system developers' visions, how JDF will effect on their products in the future.

Yksivuotisten kasvien (non-wood) kuitua verrataan usein lehtipuukuituihin. Käytetyimpiä non-wood kasveja ovat vehnän olki, bambu, järviruoko ja bagassi. Non-wood massan erottaa puumassasta kuitenkin korkea silikaattipitoisuus sekä parenkyymisolupitoisuus, joka antaa massalle korkean hienoainepitoisuuden. Tämä yhdessä korkean hemiselluloosapitoisuuden ja lyhyen kuidun pituuden kanssa heikentävät voimakkaasti non-wood massan vedenpoisto-ominaisuuksia. Non-wood kuidulla voidaan korvata lehtipuumassaa hienopapereissa. Non-wood kuitu antaa paperille hyvän opasiteetin, korkean valonsirontakertoimen sekä sileän painopinnan. Massaan lisättävä pitkäkuituinen havupuumassa parantaa ajetta¬vuutta paperikoneella ja helpottaa massan vedenpoistoa. Non-wood massan vedenpoistoa voidaan tehostaa esimerkiksi poistamalla osa hienoaineesta, käyttämällä non-wood massalle sopivaa keittotapaa sekä käyttämällä märkä¬puristuksessa pitkänippityyppistä puristinratkaisua. Myös non-wood kuidun kuivaaminen parantaa vedenpoistoa. Tässä tutkimuksessa kirjallisuusosassa keskityttiin yleisimpiin paperin valmistuksessa käytettäviin non-wood kuidun lähteisiin, märkäpuristuksen teoriaan ja tapoihin tehostaa vedenpoistoa. Kokeellisessa osassa tutkittiin vehnänolkimassan käyttäytymistä märkäpuristuksessa erilaisten ominaisuuksien pohjalta. Tutkimuksen kohteena oli non-wood massan keittotapa (hapan/alkali), hienoainepitoisuus, silikaattipitoisuus sekä kuivattu/kuivaamaton kuitu. Vertailun vuoksi tutkimuksessa oli mukana myös yksi järviruokomassa. Tuloksista huomataan, että non-wood massan vedenpoistoon vaikuttaa hienoainepitoisuus, kuidun kuivaus sekä massan valmistustapa. Järviruokomassan veden¬poisto on tehokkaampaa kuin vehnänolkimassan paremman kuitu¬koostumuksensa takia. Jos hienopaperimassassa korvataan lehtipuumassaa non-wood kuidulla maksimissaan 40 %, massan vedenpoistoa voidaan hyvin arvioida erilaisten suotautuvuusmittojen, kuten freeneksen, vedenpidätyskyvyn ja suotautumisajan, avulla.

The objective of the thesis was to define the quality potential of DIP and hardwood CTMP based raw material furnish for a printing paper production and to define the end product's pulp-based boundary conditions especially when thinking of Chinese markets. Although the Chinese paper industry expands rapidly, the production of some paper grades is still exiguous. Especially the softwood resources are limited in Asia, thus the purpose of the thesis was to find out the possibilities to produce printing paper in China from local raw materials. Bleached CTMP can be produced, for example, from fast-growing hardwood species like eucalyptus and poplar. Therefore in this thesis it was examined if good quality printing paper is possible to produce by using deinked pulp and hardwood CTMP based furnish. In the first section of experimental part, various deinked pulps and chemithermomechanical pulps were compared. The deinked pulps were from China, Central Europe and Finland. Central European was made for magazine papers, and the Chinese as well as the Finnish pulps were made for newsprints. Two of the BCTMPs were from China and those both were made from poplar, whereas one BCTMP was made from eucalyptus in a pilot plant. There were significant differences especially between BCTMPs and their paper properties. In the second section of experimental part, the deinked pulp and eucalyptus BCTMP were blended to produce handsheets. The results show that producing the highest quality printing paper would be difficult from these raw materials. Deinked pulp affected especially the strength and optical properties as well as calender blackening. The BCTMP was found to have effects mostly on the smoothness, strength and optical properties as well as calender blackening.

COD discharges out of processes have increased in line with elevating brightness demands for mechanical pulp and papers. The share of lignin-like substances in COD discharges is on average 75%. In this thesis, a plant dynamic model was created and validated as a means to predict COD loading and discharges out of a mill. The assays were carried out in one paper mill integrate producing mechanical printing papers. The objective in the modeling of plant dynamics was to predict day averages of COD load and discharges out of mills. This means that online data, like 1) the level of large storage towers of pulp and white water 2) pulp dosages, 3) production rates and 4) internal white water flows and discharges were used to create transients into the balances of solids and white water, referred to as “plant dynamics”. A conversion coefficient was verified between TOC and COD. The conversion coefficient was used for predicting the flows from TOC to COD to the waste water treatment plant. The COD load was modeled with similar uncertainty as in reference TOC sampling. The water balance of waste water treatment was validated by the reference concentration of COD. The difference of COD predictions against references was within the same deviation of TOC-predictions. The modeled yield losses and retention values of TOC in pulping and bleaching processes and the modeled fixing of colloidal TOC to solids between the pulping plant and the aeration basin in the waste water treatment plant were similar to references presented in literature. The valid water balances of the waste water treatment plant and the reduction model of lignin-like substances produced a valid prediction of COD discharges out of the mill. A 30% increase in the release of lignin-like substances in the form of production problems was observed in pulping and bleaching processes. The same increase was observed in COD discharges out of waste water treatment. In the prediction of annual COD discharge, it was noticed that the reduction of lignin has a wide deviation from year to year and from one mill to another. This made it difficult to compare the parameters of COD discharges validated in plant dynamic simulation with another mill producing mechanical printing papers. However, a trend of moving from unbleached towards high-brightness TMP in COD discharges was valid.

This work reports extraction yield and chemical characterization of the extracts obtained by high-pressure CO2 extraction of a cultivar of Ocimum basilicum L. The experiments were performed in the temperature range of 20 to 50 °C, from 100 to 250 atm of pressure. Chemical analyses were carried out by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, permitting to identify 23 compounds that were grouped into five chemical classes. Results showed that temperature and solvent density influenced positively the extraction yield. At 20 °C and 0.41 g cm-3 occurred a rise in the concentration of monoterpenes, oxygenated monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes and oxygenated sesquiterpenes.

Building industry is a high volume branch which could provide prominent markets for wood based interior decoration solutions. Competition in interior decoration markets requires versatility in appearance. Versatility in wood appearance and added value could be achieved by printing grain patterns of different species or images directly onto wood. The problem when planning wood printing’s implementing into durable applications is basically how to transfer a high quality image or print sustainably onto wood, which is porous, heterogeneous, dimensionally unstable, non-white and rough. Wood preservation or treating, and modification can provide durability against degradation but also effect to the surface properties of wood which will effect on printability. Optimal adhesion is essential into print quality, as too high ink absorbance can cause spreading and too low ink absorbance cause pale prints. Different printing techniques have different requirements on materials and production. The direct printing on wood means, that intermedias are not used. Printing techniques with flexible printing plates or in fact non-impact techniques provide the best basis for wood printing. Inkjet printing of wood with different mechanical or chemical surface treatments, and wood plastic composite material gave good results that encourage further studies of the subject. Sanding the wood surface anti-parallel to the grain gave the best overall printing quality. Spreading parallel to the grain could not be avoided totally, except in cases where wood was treated hydrophobic so adhesion of the ink was not sufficient. Grain pattern of the underlying wood stays clearly visible in the printed images. Further studies should be made to fine tune the methods that already gave good results. Also effects of moisture content of wood, different inks, and long-term exposure to UV-radiation should be tested.

Conduziu-se um experimento com integração lavoura-pecuária em Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico para avaliar o esforço de tração em hastes sulcadoras de adubo utilizadas em semeadura direta, atuando em diferentes profundidades e intensidades de pastejo, bem como o efeito desse último fator sobre o estado de compactação do solo. Os tratamentos principais foram constituídos pelas alturas da pastagem de inverno (aveia + azevém): 0,10; 0,20; 0,30 e 0,40 m e sem pastejo, obtidas variando-se a carga animal, e os tratamentos secundários foram duas profundidades de atuação da haste sulcadora de adubo: 0,12 e 0,15 m. A massa seca de raízes da pastagem, na camada de 0 a 0,12 m, aumentou com o incremento na intensidade de pastejo. Analisando os valores de resistência mecânica do solo à penetração, o efeito do pastejo foi detectado até 0,12 m, sendo crescentes com a intensidade de pastejo. A força de tração demandada pelas hastes aumentou de 1.900 para 4.300 N (120%), quando a profundidade de trabalho passou de 0,12 para 0,15 m. O esforço de tração nas hastes sulcadoras também foi maior quanto maior a carga de animais sobre a pastagem, embora as diferenças tenham sido significativas apenas entre os tratamentos sem pastejo e os mantidos a alturas de 0,10 e 0,20 m. Os valores de resistência do solo à penetração e de esforço de tração demandado pelas hastes sulcadoras apresentaram correlação significativa.

Olfactory packaging is an emerging technology which uses the aromatic capsules to release various scents. Normally, manufacturers add these aromatic capsules in the printing ink, the label or packaging material itself. When the aromatic capsules meet suitable release triggers, the scents will be released. The common release triggers are external forces, temperature changes, humidity changes and so on. The aim for this Masters of Science Thesis is to understand the aroma printing technology from literature and make market research for this kind of technology. The main target is to collect the current technology principle of aroma packaging and figure out how they are implemented on products with those. In addition, an investigation is made about consumers' attitudes from Chinese and Finnish market through the questionnaire, and the market potential is analyzed as well. The key points researched in this work are: the general attitudes on aroma printing technology, market potential and economic possibilities. This thesis specifies the main technologies used in aroma printing, the solutions of products with aroma packaging and the original results of the questionnaires. It also includes analysis of the acceptance of Chinese and Finnish consumers, what are their opinions of the aroma printing technology and the products packed by aroma printing technology. In addition, various factors which impact the market is discussed in the thesis. At last, some comparisons are made from the point of views of similarities and differences between Chinese and Finnish market.

RESUMO A distribuição das tensões provocadas por rodados das máquinas agrícolas é dependente da carga da roda e da pressão interna do pneu, bem como das condições do solo. O objetivo do presente trabalho consistiu em avaliar numericamente a distribuição dos deslocamentos e das tensões atuantes em um solo coletado no Estado do Ceará, provocada pela passagem de um trator agrícola. O peso individual do pneu traseiro (dimensões 18.4-34 R1) em que foi medida a área de contato do pneu com o solo era de 17,1 kN. Nas análises numéricas, baseadas no método dos Elementos Finitos, foram considerados diferentes valores da pressão interna do pneu (96,5 kPa, 124,0 kPa, 151,0 kPa e 179,0 kPa) com suas respectivas áreas de contato (0,2256 m2, 0,1660 m2, 0,1522 m2 e 0,1393 m2). A partir dos resultados obtidos, verificou-se que as tensões verticais encontradas na superfície do solo foram aproximadamente iguais às pressões de inflação dos pneus. A menor pressão provocou a menor tensão no solo, demonstrando a importância da redução das pressões na diminuição da compactação do solo até profundidades de 0,30 m. As maiores pressões causaram as maiores deformações no solo provocadas pela diminuição da área de contato pneu/solo. Ficou evidente neste estudo que é necessário buscar soluções para reduzir as pressões de trabalho de forma a causar menor compactação superficial do solo devido às tensões verticais e horizontais.

OBJETIVO: As cirurgias realizadas por via laparoscópica, que utilizam CO2 para realização do pneumoperitônio, cursam com hipercarbia. Esta alteração pode ser estimada pela pressão parcial de CO2 no ar expirado. Este trabalho foi realizado com a finalidade de determinar se há correlação entre pressão parcial de CO2 arterial e pressão parcial de CO2 no ar expirado nas cirurgias por via laparoscópica. MÉTODO: Distribuíram-se 20 porcas em dois grupos: sem pneumoperitônio e com pneumoperitônio de 12 mmHg de pressão intra-abdominal. Foram medidas a pressão endotraqueal, saturação arterial de O2, pressão parcial de CO2 no ar expirado, pH e pressão parcial de CO2 arteriais. RESULTADOS: Após a realização do pneumoperitônio foi encontrado aumento significativo da pressão endotraqueal, da pressão parcial de CO2 no ar expirado e pressão parcial de CO2 arterial. CONCLUSÕES: Apesar de ter ocorrido aumento nas pressões parciais de CO2 tanto arterial quanto no ar expirado, não houve correlação linear entre elas, não se podendo estimar em cirurgias por via laparoscópica a pressão parcial de CO2 arterial pela pressão parcial de CO2 no ar expirado.

In many industrial applications, such as the printing and coatings industry, wetting of porous materials by liquids includes not only imbibition and permeation into the bulk but also surface spreading and evaporation. By understanding these phenomena, valuable information can be obtained for improved process control, runnability and printability, in which liquid penetration and subsequent drying play important quality and economic roles. Knowledge of the position of the wetting front and the distribution/degree of pore filling within the structure is crucial in describing the transport phenomena involved. Although exemplifying paper as a porous medium in this work, the generalisation to dynamic liquid transfer onto a surface, including permeation and imbibition into porous media, is of importance to many industrial and naturally occurring environmental processes. This thesis explains the phenomena in the field of heatset web offset printing but the content and the analyses are applicable in many other printing methods and also other technologies where water/moisture monitoring is crucial in order to have a stable process and achieve high quality end products. The use of near-infrared technology to study the water and moisture response of porous pigmented structures is presented. The use of sensitive surface chemical and structural analysis, as well as the internal structure investigation of a porous structure, to inspect liquid wetting and distribution, complements the information obtained by spectroscopic techniques. Strong emphasis has been put on the scale of measurement, to filter irrelevant information and to understand the relationship between interactions involved. The near-infrared spectroscopic technique, presented here, samples directly the changes in signal absorbance and its variation in the process at multiple locations in a print production line. The in-line non-contact measurements are facilitated by using several diffuse reflectance probes, giving the absolute water/moisture content from a defined position in the dynamic process in real-time. The nearinfrared measurement data illustrate the changes in moisture content as the paper is passing through the printing nips and dryer, respectively, and the analysis of the mechanisms involved highlight the roles of the contacting surfaces and the relative liquid carrier properties of both non-image and printed image areas. The thesis includes laboratory studies on wetting of porous media in the form of coated paper and compressed pigment tablets by mono-, dual-, and multi-component liquids, and paper water/moisture content analysis in both offline and online conditions, thus also enabling direct sampling of temporal water/moisture profiles from multiple locations. One main focus in this thesis was to establish a measurement system which is able to monitor rapid changes in moisture content of paper. The study suggests that near-infrared diffuse reflectance spectroscopy can be used as a moisture sensitive system and to provide accurate online qualitative indicators, but, also, when accurately calibrated, can provide quantification of water/moisture levels, its distribution and dynamic liquid transfer. Due to the high sensitivity, samples can be measured with excellent reproducibility and good signal to noise ratio. Another focus of this thesis was on the evolution of the moisture content, i.e. changes in moisture content referred to (re)wetting, and liquid distribution during printing of coated paper. The study confirmed different wetting phases together with the factors affecting each phase both for a single droplet and a liquid film applied on a porous substrate. For a single droplet, initial capillary driven imbibition is followed by equilibrium pore filling and liquid retreat by evaporation. In the case of a liquid film applied on paper, the controlling factors defining the transportation were concluded to be the applied liquid volume in relation to surface roughness, capillarity and permeability of the coating giving the liquid uptake capacity. The printing trials confirmed moisture gradients in the printed sheet depending on process parameters such as speed, fountain solution dosage and drying conditions as well as the printed layout itself. Uneven moisture distribution in the printed sheet was identified to be one of the sources for waving appearance and the magnitude of waving was influenced by the drying conditions.

INTRODUÇÃO E OBJETIVO: Medidas da pressão inspiratória máxima (PImáx) e da pressão expiratória máxima (PEmáx) são utilizadas para avaliar a integridade da musculatura respiratória medindo sua força. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a influência imediata da hemodiálise (HD) na força desses músculos pelas mensurações de PImáx e PEmáx, investigando a integridade desta musculatura e/ou a presença de fraqueza muscular. MÉTODO: Realizou-se um estudo prospectivo, transversal, numa amostra de conveniência, no qual foram avaliados 35 indivíduos renais crônicos (26 homens e 9 mulheres), com idade média de 51,7 ± 14,7 anos, no serviço de hemodiálise do Hospital Universitário Alzira Vellano (HUAV), em Alfenas-MG. Foram determinadas as medidas das PImáx e PEmáx, na posição sentada (90º), utilizando um manovacuômetro digital (MVD 300®) acoplado a um microcomputador para a leitura e armazenamento dos dados obtidos, antes e após a HD. RESULTADOS: Tanto a PImáx como a PEmáx foram menores que as preditas nos momentos pré e pós-hemodiálise (p < 0,0001). Quando foram comparados os valores pré-hemodiálise e pós-hemodiálise, a PImáx apresentou discreta melhora (p = 0,0420), sendo evidente apenas naqueles pacientes com valores pré-hemodiálise menores que 60 cmH2O (Wilcoxon; p = 0,0480). A PEmáx pós-hemodiálise não foi diferente daquela pré-procedimento (p = 0,4987). CONCLUSÃO: Pacientes apresentaram evidente comprometimento da função muscular respiratória e apenas uma sessão de HD foi insuficiente para melhorar de forma significativa suas pressões respiratórias, exceto por uma discreta melhora na força inspiratória observada naqueles que apresentavam uma PImáx abaixo de 60 cmH2O antes do procedimento.
