In this paper we proposed a composite depth of penetration (DOP) approach to excluding bottom reflectance in mapping water quality parameters from Landsat thematic mapper (TM) data in the shallow coastal zone of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. Three DOPs were calculated from TM1, TM2 and TM3, in conjunction with bathymetric data, at an accuracy ranging from +/-5% to +/-23%. These depths were used to segment the image into four DOP zones. Sixteen in situ water samples were collected concurrently with the recording of the satellite image. These samples were used to establish regression models for total suspended sediment (TSS) concentration and Secchi depth with respect to a particular DOP zone. Containing identical bands and their transformations for both parameters, the models are linear for TSS concentration, logarithmic for Secchi depth. Based on these models, TSS concentration and Secchi depth were mapped from the satellite image in respective DOP zones. Their mapped patterns are consistent with the in situ observed ones. Spatially, overestimation and underestimation of the parameters are restricted to localised areas but related to the absolute value of the parameters. The mapping was accomplished more accurately using multiple DOP zones than using a single zone in shallower areas. The radiolysis of a poly(ethylene-co-propylene), Elpro, marketed by Thai Polypropylene Co. Ltd for the manufacture of medical goods has been investigated at 77 K. Calcium stearate was blended with the Elpro as a processing aid; and dioctyl phthalate, DOP, was added in various amounts as a radiation stabilizer. The ESR spectra of Elpro and Elpro+Ca were very similar and characterized principally by the presence of PP a-carbon radicals. The spectra of the samples containing DOP were similar to those for Elpro but with an additional narrow singlet arising from DOP radicals. On annealing the irradiated polymers to higher temperatures, the singlet was lost between 250 and 270 K, and at room temperature the principal radicals remaining were allyl radicals. The G-values for radical formation at 77 K for Elpro and Elpro+Ca at 77 K were 3.0 and 3.2, respectively, but incorporation of DOP resulted in lower G-values, ranging from 1.6 to 1.4 for 0.5 and 2.5 phr DOP, respectively.(c) 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

The ractiolysis of a poly(ethylene-co-propylene), Elpro grade P 750 J, marketed by Thai Polypropylene Co. Ltd. for the manufacture of medical goods, was investigated at ambient temperature and melt rheology measured. The roles of calcium stearate, blended with the Elpro as a processing aid, and dioctyl phthalate (DOP), added in various amounts as a radical scavenger, were assessed. Following radiolysis, G' and the viscosity of the polymer melts at 453 K both decreased with increasing radiation dose, even when the mobilizer was present. The results indicated that although the DOP did scavenge radicals, it did not protect the polymer from net chain scission in a low-dose regimen. The value of (G(S) - 4G(X)) was approximately 0.6-0.7. Deposition of indium tin oxide (ITO) among various transparent conductive materials on flexible organic substrates has been intensively investigated among academics and industrials for a whole new array of imaginative optoelectronic products. One critical challenge coming with the organic materials is their poor thermal endurances, considering that the process currently used to produce industry-standard ITO usually involves relatively high substrate temperature in excess of 200°C and post-annealing. A lower processing temperature is thus demanded, among other desires of high deposition rate, large substrate area, good uniformity, and high quality of the deposited materials. For this purpose, we developed an RF-assisted closed-field dual magnetron sputtering system. The “prototype” system consists of a 3-inch unbalanced dual magnetron operated at a closed-field configuration. An RF coil was fabricated and placed between the two magnetron cathodes to initiate a secondary plasma. The concept is to increase the ionization faction with the RF enhancement and utilize the ion energy instead of thermal energy to facilitate the ITO film growth. The closed-field unbalanced magnetrons create a plasma in the intervening region rather than confine it near the target, thus achieving a large-area processing capability. An RF-compensated Langmuir probe was used to characterize and compare the plasmas in mirrored balanced and closed-field unbalanced magnetron configurations. The spatial distributions of the electron density ne and electron temperature Te were measured. The density profiles reflect the shapes of the plasma. Rather than intensively concentrated to the targets/cathodes in the balanced magnetrons, the plasma is more dispersive in the closed-field mode with a twice higher electron density in the substrate region. The RF assistance significantly enhances ne by one or two orders of magnitude higher. The effect of various other parameters, such as pressure, on the plasma was also studied. The ionization fractions of the sputtered atoms were measured using a gridded energy analyzer (GEA) combined with a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). The presence of the RF plasma effectively increases the ITO ionization fraction to around 80% in both the balanced and closed-field unbalanced configurations. The ionization fraction also varies with pressure, maximizing at 5-10 mTorr. The study of the ionization not only facilitates understanding the plasma behaviors in the RF-assisted magnetron sputtering, but also provides a criterion for optimizing the film deposition process. ITO films were deposited on both glass and plastic (PET) substrates in the 3-inch RF-assisted closed-field magnetrons. The electrical resistivity and optical transmission transparency of the ITO films were measured. Appropriate RF assistance was shown to dramatically reduce the electrical resistivity. An ITO film with a resistivity of 1.2×10-3 Ω-cm and a visible light transmittance of 91% was obtained with a 225 W RF enhancement, while the substrate temperature was monitored as below 110°C. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was employed to confirm the ITO film stoichiometry. The surface morphology of the ITO films and its effect on the film properties were studied using atomic force microscopy (AFM). The prototype of RF-assisted closed-field magnetron was further extended to a larger rectangular shaped dual magnetron in a flat panel display manufacturing system. Similar improvement of the ITO film conductivities by the auxiliary RF was observed on the large-area PET substrates. Meanwhile, significant deposition rates of 25-42 nm/min were achieved.

O presente trabalho visa conhecer o nível de notoriedade dos produtos tradicionais de origem animal (DOP e IGP) do Alentejo no mercado consumidor. Este objectivo foi alcançado através da realização de revisão bibliográfica com recurso às fontes secundárias disponíveis e de fontes primárias, nomeadamente de um questionário de avaliação da notoriedade dos produtos tradicionais (DOP e IGP) de origem animal do Alentejo expressamente desenvolvido para o efeito. A informação obtida permitiu caracterizar a oferta dos produtos tradicionais de origem animal do Alentejo, em termos quantitativos, qualitativos e diversidade, enquadrar teoricamente o tema da notoriedade no contexto do comportamento do consumidor e do marketing agro-alimentar e identificar os procedimentos metodológicos a serem utilizados e delineamento do trabalho de investigação. A análise dos dados recolhidos por inquérito, tratados com recurso a software e técnicas estatísticas descritivas, permitiram retirar conclusões relevantes, tais como a baixa notoriedade dos produtos DOP e IGP, o produto com mais notoriedade, Top-of-Mind, a Carnalentejana, entre outros. Foram identificados tanto nas fontes primárias como nas secundárias aspectos em comum: uma baixíssima notoriedade dos produtos certificados e uma preocupação e necessidade em haver mais acções de divulgação destes produtos. Dos 33 produtos certificados de origem animal do Alentejo, apuraram-se que apenas 26 se encontram a ser comercializados e em que muitos casos os agrupamentos remetem para os produtores a responsabilidade da promoção dos produtos. Foram ainda identificados tópicos para futuras pesquisas e para acções de marketing tendentes a melhorar a notoriedade dos produtos tradicionais de origem animal do Alentejo no mercado. ABSTRACT; The present work aims to know the level of renown of the traditional products of animal origin (DOP and IGP) of the Alentejo in the consumer market. This objective was reached through the realization of bibliographical revision with resource to the available secondary fountains and of primary fountains, namely of a questionnaire of evaluation of the renown of the traditional products (DOP and IGP) of animal origin of the Alentejo definitely developed for the effect. The obtained information allowed to characterize the offer of the traditional products of animal origin of the Alentejo, in quantitative, qualitative terms and diversity, to fit theoretically the subject of the renown in the context of the behavior of the consumer and of the food-rough marketing and to identify the methodological proceedings being used and delineation of the work of investigation. The analysis of the data gathered by inquiry, treated with resource the software and descriptive statistical techniques, allowed there withdrew relevant conclusions, such as the low renown of the products DOP and IGP, the product with more renown, Top-of-Mind, was the Carnalentejana, between others. Aspects were identified so much in the primary fountains how in secondary in common: a low renown of the certified products and a preoccupation and necessity in having more actions of spread/promotion of these products. Of 33 products made sure of animal origin of the Alentejo, they perfected that you punish 26 they are being marketed and in what many cases the groupings send for the producers the responsibility of the promotion of the products. Topics were still identified for future inquiries and for tending actions of marketing to improve the renown of the traditional products of animal origin of the Alentejo in the market.

Este estudo tem como objectivos conhecer o perfil do consumidor dos enchidos DOP/IGP/ETG da Região de Trás-os-Montes e descrever os seus hábitos de compra e consumo. Os dados foram recolhidos através de um questionário que foi aplicado, directamente, à população do Concelho de Bragança, durante os meses de Junho e Julho de 2011. Neste estudo participam 376 indivíduos (43,4% do género masculino e 56,6% do género feminino) com uma média de 38,9 anos de idade (DP±16). Do total de respondentes, 53,5% são profissionalmente activo, 55,8% possuem até 12 anos de escolaridade e 51,6% residem na cidade de Bragança. A maioria dos inquiridos (58,8%) é consumidora de enchidos. Destes, mais de 80% afirma consumir enchidos da Região de Trás-os-Montes mas apenas 32% consome produtos DOP/IGP/ETG. Os produtos mais consumidos são as Alheiras de Mirandela (50%) e de Vinhais (45%), a Chouriça de Carne e o Salpicão de Vinhais (ambos com 41,3%).

RESUMO O artigo avalia o desempenho no mercado dos produtos DOP/IGP de origen animal na região de Trás-os-Montes, recorrendo à análise cruzada das variáveis “sucesso observado” e “sucesso calculado”. O “sucesso observado” é estimado pela verificação conjunta de pelo menos três dos seguintes indicadores: 1) produção anual e importância económica crescente; 2) taxas de crescimento superiores às do mercado de referência; 3) notoriedade do nome do produto específico; e 4) preço superior ao do produto standard. O “sucesso calculado” determina-se cruzando as variáveis 1) rapidez na adesão ao processo por parte dos actores; 2) capacidade de coordenação e cooperação dos operadores na gestão colectiva da fileira; 3) especificidade do produto; e 4) relevância do mercado. Os resultados revelam a existência de correlação positiva entre as variáveis referidas. Em geral, a “sucesso calculado” elevado corresponde “sucesso observado” também elevado. Contudo, assumem especial interesse os produtos em que tal correlação não é tão marcada, em particular os casos em que o score da primeira variável é muito superior ao da segunda. Trata-se de situações em que bons ou aceitáveis níveis de organização, dinamismo, capacidade de gestão e de coordenação das Entidades Gestoras não se reflectem em volumes e taxas de crescimento da produção elevados, melhoria de preços e distribuição do valor acrescentado pelos diferentes intervenientes da fileira dos produtos. ABSTRACT The article evaluates the performance of PDO/PGI animal-based products in the region of Trás-os-Montes, northern Portugal, using a cross analysis of the variables “observed success” and “measured success”. The “observed success” was estimated by the simoultaneous verification of at least three of the following indicators: 1) annual production and growing economic importance; 2) growth rates higher than those of the reference market; 3)notoriety of the name of the specif product; and 4) price higher than the one for the standard product. The “measured success” was determined by crossing the variables 1) rapid actor involvement in the process; 2) actor coordination and cooperation capacity in collective chain management; 3) product specificity; and 4) market relevance. The results show a positive correlation between the two mentioned variables. In general, to a high “measured success” corresponds a high “observed success”. However, those products in which such correlation is not so high, particularly those with a higher score of the first variable, assume a special interest. This products, in general, correspond to situations in which with good or acceptable levels of organization, better dynamics, management and coordination capacity of the management bodies, do not reflect in production and high growth rates, price improvements, and distribution of the added value among the different chain actors.

The effects of sintering on several properties of FTO and ITO substates used in DSC have been investigated. FTO & ITO substrates were prepared with a range of sizes and aspect ratios - emulated laboratory style test cells through to prototype modules. Time and temperature of the sintering profiles were varied and sheet resistance and flatness measured. Electrical properties of the substrates were then further characterized by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and module sized devices were assembled and thickness variations over the device area were determined and related to performance.
