The first direct experimental evidence of a multiparticle-hole ground state configuration of the neutron-rich Mg-33 isotope has been obtained via intermediate energy (400 A MeV) Coulomb dissociation measurement. The major part similar to(70 +/- 13)% of the cross section is observed to populate the excited states of Mg-32 after the Coulomb breakup of Mg-33. The shapes of the differential Coulomb dissociation cross sections in coincidence with different core excited states favor that the valence neutron occupies both the s(1/2) and p(3/2) orbitals. These experimental findings suggest a significant reduction and merging of sd-pf shell gaps at N similar to 20 and 28. The ground state configuration of Mg-33 is predominantly a combination of Mg-32(3.0,3.5MeV; 2(-), 1(-)) circle times nu(s1/2), Mg-32(2.5MeV; 2(+)) circle times nu(p3/2), and Mg-32(0; 0(+)) circle times nu(p3/2). The experimentally obtained quantitative spectroscopic information for the valence neutron occupation of the s and p orbitals, coupled with different core states, is in agreement with Monte Carlo shell model (MCSM) calculation using 3 MeV as the shell gap at N = 20.

O sedentarismo é caracterizado como a ausência ou baixos níveis de atividade física. A prática regular de atividade física está associada de forma positiva ao funcionamento dos sistemas cardiovascular, respiratório e musculoesquelético, bem como contribui para a saúde psicológica, bem estar e redução dos riscos de desenvolvimento de diversas doenças crônicas não transmissíveis. O sedentarismo constitui-se, portanto, como principal fator de risco para a morte súbita, causa ou agravamento da grande maioria das doenças. O objetivo do estudo é propor um plano de intervenção para redução do sedentarismo na população adstrita à equipe Azul da UBS Cecília Rodrigues Miranda do Distrito de São José de Almeida, município de Jaboticatubas, Minas Gerais. A realização de um diagnóstico situacional identificou altos níveis de inatividade física nesta população associados a diversos problemas de saúde. O plano prevê ações que incentivem uma mudança comportamental, principalmente relacionada à prática regular de atividade física, capaz de atingir aspectos relacionados à busca pelo bem estar e que, de forma sustentável, possa reverter alguns hábitos locais nocivos à saúde.

Este é um plano de intervenção na área de abrangência da Equipe de Saúde da Família (ESF) azul do Centro de saúde Etelvina Carneiro, Belo Horizonte. Partindo do problema do alto fluxo da demanda espontânea e que fazer para melhorar o acolhimento. O plano pretende trabalhar com a demanda espontânea, tentando reorganizar o processo de trabalho da equipe numa forma mais humana, com boa ética profissional, com a utilização do método clínico centrado na pessoa. Na realização do plano foi utilizado o método de Planejamento Estratégico Situacional. Foi feita uma revisão da literatura com os seguintes descritores: demanda espontânea, atenção primaria de saúde(APS); comunicação em saúde; prevenção; atenção centrado na pessoa; humanização na Atenção Primaria, e cuidado em saúde. A partir dos nós críticos as operações propostas foram:1) capacitar adequadamente aos profissionais que fazem acolhimento;2) melhorar as condições do local de acolhimento;3) diminuir a quantidade de pacientes para a demanda espontânea com mais atividades de prevenção e promoção de saúde;4) aumentar número de visitas domiciliar a grupos de risco;5) envolver todos os profissionais disponíveis para oferecer os melhore recursos e atendimento;6) definir quanto tempo será necessário para uma consulta pré-agendada. A análise de viabilidade mostrou que o projeto é viável. A elaboração deste plano de intervenção possibilita à ESF azul oferecer um modelo assistencial centrado nas pessoas, com um atendimento mais efetivo a partir da criação de um acolhimento mais qualificado e humano. Dessa forma, busca-se continuar no sentido do cumprimento da missão deste serviço de saúde: cuidar da saúde da população, de acordo com as diretrizes defendidas pelo Humaniza SUS.

O câncer de colo de útero é o quarto tipo de câncer mais comum entre as mulheres no mundo. A realização periódica do exame citopatológico (Papanicolaou) continua sendo a estratégia mais adotada para o rastreamento do câncer do colo do útero. A partir dos dados fornecidos pelo Sistema de Informação Básica em Saúde verificou-se que no ano 2013, somente o 13 % das mulheres da equipe, estavam com exame preventivo de Papanicolaou em dia. Nesta perspectiva, o principal objetivo deste trabalho foi propor um projeto de intervenção para melhorar a adesão das mulheres ao exame citopatológico na área de abrangência da Equipe Azul da UBS Bom Jesus, localizada em Belo Horizonte/MG. Para tal foi utilizado o método de Planejamento Estratégico em Saúde para o desenvolvimento do projeto a partir do modelo proposto no Modulo de Planejamento e Avaliação das Ações de Saúde. Foi realizada também, a revisão da literatura por meio da leitura de artigos científicos disponíveis nas bases de dados: Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) entre outras. Trata-se de uma proposta de intervenção intersetorial e multiprofissional direcionada a melhorar a qualidade de assistência que é prestada pela equipe de saúde na atenção da mulher, onde se propõem ações educativas para as usuárias, além da capacitação dos profissionais de saúde. Desse modo, espera-se que ocorra um aumento da cobertura de exames de Papanicolaou na área de abrangência da equipe e, por conseguinte, um aumento da detecção precoce do câncer do colo do útero, diminuindo assim, a mortalidade devido a este tipo de câncer.

A adolescência corresponde ao período de vida entre os 10 e 19 anos, no qual ocorrem mudanças corporais, comportamentais e aquisição da capacidade reprodutiva. Por ser a gestação na adolescência suscetível a promover complicações obstétricas, problemas psicossociais e econômicos, esta realidade é considerada em vários países como problema de saúde pública. O território de abrangência da equipe da UBSF Paineiras, no município de Tupaciguara-MG, tem como um dos problemas prioritários a elevada proporção de gestantes adolescentes. Tendo em vista o número expressivo de adolescentes grávidas do total de acompanhamentos de Pré-Natal na UBSF foram elaborados os projetos "Cuidar, aprender e escolher" e "Prevenção e cuidados" voltados à atenção integral à saúde dos adolescentes e conduzidos por meio de grupos operativos realizados na unidade de saúde com as gestantes adolescentes e em escola de ensino fundamental com os adolescentes do oitavo e nono anos. Com o foco em ações de educação em saúde serão abordados temas de direitos sexuais e reprodutivos, gravidez na adolescência, anticoncepção, proteção contra doenças sexualmente transmissíveis, orientações sobre o pré-natal, o parto e o puerpério. Pretende-se que o grupo operativo aproxime os adolescentes da equipe de saúde local, incentive o autocuidado e a prevenção da gestação na adolescência. Garantir os direitos sexuais, os direitos reprodutivos e da atenção integral à saúde dos adolescentes é uma questão de Direitos Humanos e envolve diversos setores da sociedade e responsabilidade da saúde pública

A hipertensão arterial sistêmica tem alta prevalência e baixas taxas de controle, ocupa lugar de destaque no contexto epidemiológico e é fator de risco para doenças decorrentes de aterosclerose e trombose, que se manifestam, predominantemente, por doença isquêmica cardíaca, cerebrovascular, vascular periférica e renal. O controle está diretamente relacionado ao grau de adesão do paciente ao regime terapêutico. Este estudo tem o objetivo de promover a adesão ao tratamento anti-hipertensivo pelo usuário assistido pela Unidade Básica de Saúde da Família Pedra Azul, município de Contagem, MG, através da elaboração de um plano de intervenção por meio do Método de Planejamento Estratégico Situacional. Espera-se aumentar a adesão dos pacientes hipertensos ao tratamento e desenvolver ações de promoção da saúde e prevenção de doenças secundárias, pela equipe de saúde

Monte Carlo track structures (MCTS) simulations have been recognized as useful tools for radiobiological modeling. However, the authors noticed several issues regarding the consistency of reported data. Therefore, in this work, they analyze the impact of various user defined parameters on simulated direct DNA damage yields. In addition, they draw attention to discrepancies in published literature in DNA strand break (SB) yields and selected methodologies. The MCTS code Geant4-DNA was used to compare radial dose profiles in a nanometer-scale region of interest (ROI) for photon sources of varying sizes and energies. Then, electron tracks of 0.28 keV-220 keV were superimposed on a geometric DNA model composed of 2.7 × 10(6) nucleosomes, and SBs were simulated according to four definitions based on energy deposits or energy transfers in DNA strand targets compared to a threshold energy ETH. The SB frequencies and complexities in nucleosomes as a function of incident electron energies were obtained. SBs were classified into higher order clusters such as single and double strand breaks (SSBs and DSBs) based on inter-SB distances and on the number of affected strands. Comparisons of different nonuniform dose distributions lacking charged particle equilibrium may lead to erroneous conclusions regarding the effect of energy on relative biological effectiveness. The energy transfer-based SB definitions give similar SB yields as the one based on energy deposit when ETH ≈ 10.79 eV, but deviate significantly for higher ETH values. Between 30 and 40 nucleosomes/Gy show at least one SB in the ROI. The number of nucleosomes that present a complex damage pattern of more than 2 SBs and the degree of complexity of the damage in these nucleosomes diminish as the incident electron energy increases. DNA damage classification into SSB and DSB is highly dependent on the definitions of these higher order structures and their implementations. The authors' show that, for the four studied models, different yields are expected by up to 54% for SSBs and by up to 32% for DSBs, as a function of the incident electrons energy and of the models being compared. MCTS simulations allow to compare direct DNA damage types and complexities induced by ionizing radiation. However, simulation results depend to a large degree on user-defined parameters, definitions, and algorithms such as: DNA model, dose distribution, SB definition, and the DNA damage clustering algorithm. These interdependencies should be well controlled during the simulations and explicitly reported when comparing results to experiments or calculations.

In this work, the energy response functions of a CdTe detector were obtained by Monte Carlo (MC) simulation in the energy range from 5 to 160keV, using the PENELOPE code. In the response calculations the carrier transport features and the detector resolution were included. The computed energy response function was validated through comparison with experimental results obtained with (241)Am and (152)Eu sources. In order to investigate the influence of the correction by the detector response at diagnostic energy range, x-ray spectra were measured using a CdTe detector (model XR-100T, Amptek), and then corrected by the energy response of the detector using the stripping procedure. Results showed that the CdTe exhibits good energy response at low energies (below 40keV), showing only small distortions on the measured spectra. For energies below about 80keV, the contribution of the escape of Cd- and Te-K x-rays produce significant distortions on the measured x-ray spectra. For higher energies, the most important correction is the detector efficiency and the carrier trapping effects. The results showed that, after correction by the energy response, the measured spectra are in good agreement with those provided by a theoretical model of the literature. Finally, our results showed that the detailed knowledge of the response function and a proper correction procedure are fundamental for achieving more accurate spectra from which quality parameters (i.e., half-value layer and homogeneity coefficient) can be determined.

Objective To assess the prevalence of insulin resistance (IR) and associated factors in contraceptive users. Methods A total of 47 women 18 to 40 years of age with a body mass index (kg/m(2)) < 30, fasting glucose levels < 100 mg/dl and 2-hour glucose level < 140 mg/dl after a 75-g oral glucose load were submitted to a hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp. The women were distributed in tertiles regarding M-values. The analysed variables were use of combined hormonal/non-hormonal contraception, duration of use, body composition, lipid profile, glucose levels and blood pressure. Results IR was detected in 19% of the participants. The women with low M-values presented significantly higher body fat mass, waist-to-hip ratio, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR and were nulligravida, showed > 1 year of contraceptive use and higher triglyceride levels. IR was more frequent among combined oral contraceptive users, however no association was observed after regression analysis. Conclusions The prevalence of IR was high among healthy women attending a family planning clinic independent of the contraceptive method used with possible long-term negative consequences regarding their metabolic and cardiovascular health. Although an association between hormonal contraception and IR could not be found this needs further research. Family planning professionals should be proactive counselling healthy women about the importance of healthy habits.

The electrochemical properties of methylene blue immobilized on cellulose/TiO2 and mixed oxide SiO2/TiO2 matrices were investigated by means of cyclic voltammetry. The electron mediator property of the methylene blue was optimized using a factorial design, consisting of four factors in two levels. The experimental observations and data analyses on the system indicate that the lowest peak separation occurs for Sil/TiOAM, 1.0 mol L-1 KCl solution and 20 mV s-1 scan rate, while values of current ratio closest to unity were found for Cel/TiOAM independent of electrolyte concentration, 0.2 or 1.0 mol L-1, and scan rate, 20 mV s-1 or 60 mV s-1.

The adsorption capacity of alpha-chitosan and its modified form with succinic anhydride was compared with the traditional adsorbent active carbon by using the dye methylene blue, employed in the textile industry. The isotherms for both biopolymers were classified as SSA systems in the Giles model, more specifically in L class and subgroup 3. The dye concentration in the supernatant in the adsorption assay was determined through electronic spectroscopy. By calorimetric titration thermodynamic data of the interaction between methyene blue and the chemically modified chitosan at the solid/liquid interface were obtained. The enthalpy of the dye/chitosan interaction gave 2.47 ± 0.02 kJ mol-1 with an equilibrium constant of 7350 ± 10 and for the carbon/dye interaction this constant gave 5951 ± 8. The spontaneity of these adsorptions are reflected by the free Gibbs energies of -22.1 ± 0.4 and -21.5 ± 0.2 kJ mol-1, respectively, found for these systems. This new adsorbent derived from a natural polysaccharide is as efficient as activated carbon. However 97% of the bonded dye can be eluted by sodium chloride solution, while this same operation elutes only 42% from carbon. Chitosan is efficient in dye removal with the additional advantage of being cheap, non-toxic, biocompatible and biodegradable.

The covering of the soil is an agricultural practice that intends to control the harmful herbs, to reduce the losses of water by evaporation of the soil, and to facilitate the harvest and the commercialization, once the product is cleaner and healthier. However, when the soil is covered important microclimatic parameters are also altered, and consequently the germination of seeds, the growth of roots, the absorption of water and nutrients, the metabolic activity of the plants and the carbohydrates storage. The current trial intended to evaluate the effect of soil covering with blue colored film on consumptive water-use in a lettuce crop (Lactuca sativa, L.). The experiment was carried out in a plastic greenhouse in Araras - São Paulo State, Brazil from March 3rd, 2001 to May 5th, 2001. The consumptive water-use was measured through two weighing lysimeter installed inside the greenhouse. Crop spacing was 0.25 m x 0.25 m and the color of the film above soil was blue. Leaf area index (IAF), was measured six times (7; 14; 21; 28; 35; 40 days after transplant) and the water-use efficiency (EU) was measured at the end. The experimental design was subdivided portions with two treatments, bare soil and covered soil. The average consumptive water-use was 4.17 mm day-1 to the bare soil treatment and 3.11 mm day-1 to the covered soil treatment. The final leaf area index was 25.23 to the bare soil treatment and 24.39 to the covered soil treatment, and there was no statistical difference between then.

OBJECTIVE: This epidemiological survey assessed the dental caries profile in Monte Negro, a small town in the Amazonian state of Rondônia, Brazil, and its relationship with the northern region, national and global goals for oral health in the years 2000 and 2020. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The groups randomly examined were composed of individuals aged 5, 12, 15 to 19, 35 to 44, 65 to 74 years, living in both rural and urban areas. RESULTS: The means dft (standard deviation) and DMFT (standard deviation) for the groups were, respectively, 3.15 (3.12), 3.41 (2.69), 5.96 (4.19), 16.00 (7.30) and 25.96 (9.82). Caries-free individuals were 34.42%, 14.81% and 8.16% in the preschoolchildren, schoolchildren and adolescent groups, respectively. The Significant Caries Index percentages applied to the two younger groups were 6.65 and 6.70, and they increased to 32.00 in the individuals aged 65 to 74 years. Care Index percentages for adolescents, adults and elderly groups were, respectively, 29.40, 25.00 and 1.41. The dental caries profile in Monte Negro in 2008 shows that, 8 years after the year 2000, no FDI/WHO goal for any age settled in 1982 has been achieved. Dental caries increased with age and the main dental problem of adult and elderly groups was tooth loss. CONCLUSION: Oral health promotion and prevention of oral disease policies are urgent needs. Setting of oral health goals and targets to people living in Monte Negro or Amazonia to be pursuit and achieved in a near future is an important action to do because of the culture, sanitary conditions and socioeconomic aspects of this particular population.

Aspects related to the nature of stem thickening in monocotyledons have been the subject of many studies. Primary thickening has been attributed to the Primary Thickening Meristem (PTM). According to most authors, it gives rise, besides the adventitious roots, to the vascular tissues and part of the cortex. In other words, it has centripetal and centrifugal activity. For some authors, however, it gives rise only to the vascular system, and for others, only to part of the cortex. However, this work demonstrated that PTM corresponds to the pericycle in the meristematic phase or to the pericycle associated with the endodermis, also with meristematic activity. It was observed that the pericycle was responsible for the formation of the vascular system of the rhizome and of the adventitious roots; the endodermis gave rise to cell layers with radial disposition which comprised the inner portion of the stem cortex, and which corresponded to the region known as the derivatives of the meristematic endodermis (DME). A continuity was also demonstrated between the tissues of the stem and root in species of Scleria Berg. (Cyperaceae).
