The Mackenzie Heritage Printery Museum in Queenston, Ontario, is Canada’s largest working printing museum. The museum is housed in the 19th century home of William Lyon Mackenzie, a journalist and politician who published the Colonial Advocate and was instrumental in the Rebellion of 1837. The museum contains a Louis Roy Press, the oldest in Canada and one of the few original wooden presses remaining in the world.

Armory and Lineages of Canada 1914

A book called "Armory and Lineages Of Canada 1914" with the copyright year 1913. The book is signed by H.K. Woodruff and it is also signed by Margaret Woodruff Band. The Birthday Scripture Text Book

The Birthday Scripture Text book was published by the Book Society, Bristol. This book is signed by Jane Woodruff, St. Catharines, Ontario, 1872. There is also a label in the book which reads "Suite 1208 Chicago Savings Bank Building State and Madison Streets, Chicago". The book measures 10.5cm x 7cm and has a leather cover with metal trim. The clasp is no longer on the book. Some of the pages are stained and all of the pages are falling out. Many of the pages have handwritten birthday, births and death notices. The Book of Common Prayer Canada

The book of Common Prayer Canada is bound in soft leather. This book contains 2 book plates from St. George's Church, St. Catharines. The first one says that Margaret Julia Band was confirmed April 17, 1935 and had her first communion April 21, 1935. The second one says that Percy Caruthers Band was confirmed April 8, 1936 and received first communion April 12, 1936. There is also an inscription which reads "To Margaret from her mother, April the 21st, 1935, St. Catharines. The full text is available in the Brock University Special Collections and Archives.

Chamber's Historical Questions with Answers

The book is hardcover and inscribed with an illegible signature, dated 1880 and below that is the signature Margaret J. Woodruff. The preface of the book begins, "The present work is designed to fulfil an important purpose in Education - that of bringing clearly into view the leading facts which are supposed to be gained through a long course of instruction. Without proposing to supersede the elementary books usually employed, it offers a certain test of what is presumed to have been previously learned. With such a work in their hands, Schoolmasters, Tutors, Governesses, or Parents, may at once satisfy themselves as to the degree of knowledge on a variety of subjects attained by the young person under their charge, and for whose intellectual culture they feel a special interest." Dictionary of the Zeta Psi Fraternity of North America

A hardcover Dictionary of the Zeta Psi Fraternity, edited by Arthur H. Motley and Harry B. Carpenter. An excerpt from the forward reads: "Having the sincere purpose of placing in the hands of all Brothers of the Fraternity a Directory of the full membership of our order, with addresses as perfectly correct as time and equipment would permit, supplemented with such alphabetical and geographical indices as will make the volume a handy and accurate cross-reference to our membership...". Included with this book is a typewritten letter from Gordon Waldie, treasurer of the Toronto Chapter of the Zeta Psi Fraternity thanking Mrs. Percy Band for the gift of the original initiation certificate of the late Hamilton K. Woodruff. Mr. Woodruff was one of the Charter members of the Fraternity and he was the 7th man initiated into this, the first Canadian chapter of any fraternity. The letter is dated Nov. 21, 1949. The Long Point Company Yearbook 1966

This book marks the one hundredth anniversary of the formation of the Long Point Company. There are penciled initials R.A.L. [Robert A. Laidlaw], Jan. 12th, 1967 within the front cover. See the full text of this item in the Brock University Special Collections and Archives.

The New Testament of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ

This book was presented by the Canadian Bible Society (British & Foreign Bible Society) to the Canadian Soldiers in the war of 1914. There is an inscription which reads "Niagara-on-the-Lake, August 15th 1915 Presented to the 35th overseas Battalion Draft. P.C. Band to his father before his departure for the front". The word "confirmed" is written below this but the rest of the page is torn out. There is also a book plate that reads "Presented by the Canadian Bible Society (British & Foreign Bible Society) to the Canadian Soldiers in the War of 1914. 'Be strong and of a Good Courage'". Rollin's History Volumes 1-7

A seven volume set of books that cover the history of the Egyptians, Carthaginians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Medes and Persians, Grecians and Macedonians. Each of the volumes state that they are translated from the original French. The first volume begins with a memoir of the other Charles Rollin. The first volume also contains a note addressed to Mr.William Woodruff, thanking hime for the loan of the first 4 volumes and asking if he can loan the other volumes. The note is singed by Fred Goring in July of 1838. All volumes are stamped "The property of William Woodruff, St. Davids, Niagara" or "The property of William Woodruff, Niagara". The History of the Consulate & The Empire of France Under Napoleon

The book is stamped in the front and back with the "Upper Canada College" crest. There is also a plate within the book indicating that it was presented to H.K. Woodruff by the senate as an acknowledgement of merit and as a reward for general proficiency in Upper Canada College in June, 1878. On the top of this plate it says: 1st Form Prize, Upper Modern Form.
