L'olimpisme: una institució

Aquest treball es va realitzar per a l’assignatura Campus “Olimpisme, Esport i Societat” durant el curs 1996-97 amb l’objectiu de plantejar un possible marc teòric a partir del qual pot contemplar-se el fenomen de l’Olimpisme com a institució amb uns mites fundadors que el legitimen i uns mecanismes de preservació.

Esta ponencia fue presentada en el International Symposium on Olympic Villages, Museo Olímpico, Lausana, Suiza. Su objetivo es exponer la evolución histórica del concepto de villa olímpica en los Juegos de Invierno y reflexionar sobre aquello en lo que se podría convertir. Esta evolución histórica puede dividirse en tres grandes períodos en que se basa este plan: antes de 1960, de 1964 a 1984 y a partir de 1988.

La Olimpiada Popular de 1936: deporte y política

Las complejas relaciones entre política y deporte y, más concretamente aún, entre deporte y pulsión nacionalista, son exploradas por el autor a la luz de la Olimpíada Popular de 1936, organizada –y finalmente no celebrada– en la Barcelona inmediatamente anterior al golpe de Estado del 18 de julio como réplica y alternativa a los Juegos Olímpicos que aquel verano se celebraron en Berlín, entonces capital del incipiente Tercer Reich.

Olympic Games as showcase

In the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, besides the country-versus-country typical showdown in the backdrop of Olympics, and the economic and political impulses for the host city, there was a third factor complicating the celebration: rivalry between the Catalan hosts and the Spanish state. By guiding the development of and eventual Olympic projection of national identity, Catalan and Spanish politicians hoped to create a resounding rallying point around which they could unite disparate individuals. The text is made up of: an introduction, five paragraphs on the different political perspective, conclusions, a commentary on the tallying of score and a note section with bibliographical references.

Documento publicado en 1992 por el CEO-UAB como parte de la colección &i&Working Papers&/i& que incluye la historia de los pictogramas de los distintos Juegos Olímpicos, de Invierno y de Verano, desde Tokio '64, cuando se inicia su diseño sistemático, hasta Barcelona '92, cuando los recursos gráficos se integran en un proceso único de información y de representación de la identidad olímpica y de la cultura de la ciudad sede.

L'oferta cultural en les polítiques de màrqueting de les ciutats

Estudi realitzat a partir d’una estada a la Université René Descarte - Sorbonne Paric V, França, des d’agost fins desembre del 2006. Les diferents activitats culturals de caràcter temporal s’utilitzen, cada cop més, com una eina clau en la promoció turística, econòmica o social de les ciutats. Sovint, aquests ús es fa sense tenir uns objectius clars ni unes eines d’avaluació reals dels resultats obtinguts, fet que condiciona l’efectivitat de les polítiques. S’ha analitzat quins tipus de polítiques s’utilitzen a nivell europeu i valorar-ne la seva efectivitat. Concretament, s’ha establert contacte amb una cinquantena d’establiments culturals –alguns d’ells dels més importants del món -, que han mostrat la seva experiència en el camp. Així mateix s’ha pogut parlar amb responsables de grans esdeveniments culturals. Tot i l’augment de la preocupació per part dels diferents equipaments culturals per la imatge que projecten, aquest fet no es tradueix en canvis destacables en les seves polítiques. Actualment, únicament els grans museus nacionals disposen dels instruments financers i de personal necessaris per portar a terme actuacions que influeixin en la imatge que projecten. Tot i així hi ha una preocupació generalitzada del conjunt d’equipaments per la seva imatge, preocupació que es tradueix en algunes iniciatives innovadores, portades a terme amb pocs mitjans, però amb uns resultats molt satisfactoris.

The economy of the Beijing Olympic Games: An analysis of first impacts and prospects

This paper was presented at the International Sport Business Symposium, held by the Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing, in 2008. The speakers, Ferran Brunet, as a professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Zuo Xinwen, as a member of Beijing Development and Reform Commission, both set out to analyze changes in the economic and social development of the city which were undertaken with the aim to celebrate the 2008 Olympic Games. They discuss aspects as a transformation in the mode of economic growth, resources of the Organizing Committee, investments related to the Games, transport and communications, industries, the balance of urban and rural development, urban construction and management service and operations into a well-off society.

Globalization and international relations: the Olympic Movement and European Integration

Essay elaborated by Shaelyne Johnson, undergraduate student of Global Studies at the University of California-Santa Barbara, during her internship at CEO-UAB for the academic course 2008/2009. She compares the organisational structure, goals and objectives of the institutions in the Olympic Movement and the European Integration, in order to find connections between both movements which were caused by globalization. The paper begins with an introduction of the changing world nowadays, followed by an overview on the structural similarities in the historical unfolding between these two parallel movements and, before concluding, new means for international relations are considered. This document is available in English through the digital library at the CEO-UAB Portal of Olympic Studies and the digital repository RECERCAT.

Sports and journalism ethics: the coverage of 2012 London Olympics in the British, North-American and Spanish press

Sports and journalism ethics: the coverage of 2012 London Olympics in the British, North-American and Spanish press is a research focused on analysing the treatment that the quality press of three countries (United Kingdom, United States of America and Spain) will carry out in the London Olympic Games. Through a solid methodological approach based on the combination of the qualitative content analysis and qualitative indepth interviews, the investigation will study if the media provide a quality coverage,that is, if they adequate their pieces to the fundamental principles of journalistic deontology (truth, justice, freedom and social responsibility). Furthermore, the research will assess if the selected media comply with the prescriptions established in the ethical codes, stylebooks, newsroom statutes and national and international recommendations about journalism ethics, ranging from each media’s guidelines to key transnational codes established by the UNESCO, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) orthe Council of Europe.

Proposta de projecte educatiu i cultural ubicat al centre cívic i cultural “la Sitja” de Fornells de la Selva. El projecte he estat elaborat pensant en la viabilitat per poder presentar-lo a la regidoria per desenvolupar-lo o almenys perquè prenguin consciència de la importància de desenvolupar un projecte educatiu i cultural a l'equipament de “la Sitja”. El treball està basat en l'estudi i resultats i vol incidir en la millora de les polítiques educatives i culturals del municipi i concretament en les polítiques que es porten a terme al centre cívic i cultural. Les polítiques educatives i culturals parteixen de les necessitats detectades en l'estudi i tenen per finalitat final contribuir en la millora de la vida dels seus ciutadans

Madrid 2020, ahora o nunca

Aquest treball té la voluntat de ser un reportatge d’investigació sobre la cursa olímpica de Madrid, des de la candidatura de 2012 fins la de 2020. Els defensors dels Jocs Olímpics a la capital espanyola justifiquen el seu tercer intent consecutiu en el fet de tenir el 80% de les infraestructures necessàries construïdes. En canvi, l’oposició ha trobat en la crisi econòmica el millor motiu per posicionar-se en contra de la celebració dels JJOO.Hem realitzat una sèrie de 15 entrevistes amb tota mena d’experts i personalitats de l’àmbit, intentant albergar sempre tots els possible punts de vista que hagin sorgit al respecte. El resultat ha sigut un article de llarga extensió que fa un repàs a tota la història olímpica de Madrid fins a dia d’avui i intenta interpretar tots els esdeveniments ocorreguts fins ara.
