Potential Adverse Effects of the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline on Arctic Caribou and Proposed Mitigation

The Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline (ANGP) is proposed for construction on the North Slope in 2016. It will be aligned through Arctic caribou habitat and evidence shows that caribou are negatively affected by human development. This Capstone identifies potential adverse affects of ANGP on Arctic caribou using interviews from expert caribou biologists and the 1977 Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) as a model. Based on a synthesis of the interviews and TAPS analysis, this capstone proposes and examines a set of seventeen conservation measures to be implemented during construction and operation of ANGP to minimize adverse impacts on caribou herds. These conservation measures can be used as a baseline for future developments on the North Slope to promote caribou herd management.

Climate Change Policy & the Natural Gas Transmission Sector

Various emission reduction strategies are proposed to manage climate change in the U.S. This applied capstone evaluates the most likely policy options considering impacts and benefits to the natural gas transmission sector (NGT). It examines a case-study including a comparison of policy options to recommend the most beneficial program to the NGT sector. Two conclusions of major importance are: a federally preempted cap-and-trade program would be the most cost-effective for the NGT sector and the NGT sector should not be the point of regulation of any climate policy. Recommendations, strategies, and costs for implementation of a compliance plan for a federally preempted cap-and-trade program were developed as a tool for NGT companies as part of this applied capstone project.

This fulfills the statutory requirement in Section 19-130, Commission Study and Report, of Article 19 (220 ILCS 5/19) of the Illinois Public Utilities Act ("Act"). Section 19-130 requires the Illinois Commerce Commission ("Commission") to prepare an annual report analyzing the status and development of the retail natural gas market in the State of Illinois, including data on volumes of natural gas sold to retail customers and the number of customers served by alternative gas suppliers and gas utilities. The required data is included in tables and attached as an appendix.

Análisis de la influencia política y económica de las negociaciones sobre gas, en las relaciones bilaterales de la Unión Europea y Rusia del 2003 al 2008

Esta monografía tiene como propósito analizar la manera en que el gas influenció las relaciones bilaterales entre Rusia y la Unión Europea en el periodo del 2003 al 2008. La deficiencia de Fuentes energéticas propias en la Unión Europea, sobre todo de hidrocarburos, contribuyó a que en este periodo, la Federación Rusa alcanzara algunas de las metas que se había propuesto a nivel político y económico desde la llegada del presidente Vladimir Putin al poder, con el fin de hacer un reposicionamiento de Rusia a nivel regional, basado en la “reciprocity” (reciprocidad), donde Rusia brinda gas a la UE pero a su vez, la UE debe brindar seguridad en otros sectores. A través de la teoría de Barry Buzan “Regional Security Complex” se muestra la influencia del sector energético (energetic) en el campo político y económico en las relaciones bilaterales de estas dos unidades del sistema internacional.

Opciones y desafíos para la comercialización del gas boliviano

La actual situación energética a nivel mundial ha puesto a los países desarrollados en una clara dependencia por este recurso si desean mantener sus niveles actuales de crecimiento económico. Bolivia al poseer gas natural, y dadas las condiciones energéticas a nivel mundial, debería estar encaminado a un crecimiento económico sostenible por los próximos años, sin embargo la situación de pobreza en la que se encuentra sumida desde el siglo pasado no ha cambiado. Analizar diversos mercados alternativos, además de los consolidados es la consigna de este trabajo con el objetivo de reducir la vulnerabilidad y el riesgo ante posibles situaciones en el MERCOSUR que afecten el ingreso que percibe el país por la exportación de gas a Argentina y Brasil. En este sentido Chile surge como una nueva opción de destino del gas, tanto económica como comercial, pero problemas limítrofes del pasado hacen un tanto difícil establecer nuevas negociaciones comerciales, pero no imposibles. El objetivo es el de establecer nuevas negociaciones comerciales con el país trasandino, utilizando al gas natural como un medio para alcanzar un mejor nivel económico.

Desenhos de mercado de gás natural e o caso brasileiro

Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar os principais fatores envolvidos no desenvolvi- mento e funcionamento da indústria de gás natural, para então detectar e diagnosticar as principais falhas existentes no mercado brasileiro de gás. A análise é realizada a partir da caracterização dos diversos desenhos de mercado da indústria de gás natural presentes no mundo (desde a estrutura totalmente verticalizada até a mais competitiva, com a presença de mercados de atacado e varejo). Pontos importantes são ressaltados tais como os princípios de precificação do gás em cada modelo, as práticas regulatórias empregadas e as principais estruturas surgidas. Destas, destacam-se as relações entre os agentes nos mercados de varejo competitivos, o livre acesso, o bypass físico e comercial e o surgimento do mercado spot. Essa linha de trabalho culmina com a análise da atual estrutura do mercado de gás natural no Brasil, assim como possíveis desenhos que essa indústria poderá atingir a médio e longo prazos dependendo dos mecanismos regulatórios utilizados. Para isso, são apresentados os modelos de gás existentes e a interação entre eles. Ressalta-se, também, a importância do livre acesso para o desenvolvimento do setor no Brasil.

Fatores de decisão da adoção do gás natural na geração de energia elétrica em pequena escala em postos de combustíveis: um estudo de anális de decusão usando o processo de hierarquia analítica AHP

A modeling of criterias and alternatives is through and applied a questionnaire based on method AHP to proprietors of gas stations. The considered alternatives had been the maintenance of the current state with electric energy of the deliverer and the generation in small scale based on the natural gas. The used criteria had been Cost of the Investment, Final Cost of the Energy, Operational cost, Ambient Benefits, Risk and Variation of Costs. The study it was carried through in the city of Natal, RN in ranks that make use of the natural as for resale, where the generation alternative on the basis of the available gas is present. The main results evidence in a dimension the viability of use of method AHP with questionnaire by means of validation of the judgments with analysis of variance beyond proper the normal mechanisms of analysis of consistency to the method. The main results of the analysis help to show that in this in case that the profile of models of criteria and judgments of the actors is similar, with the final evidence of that it has a dominance of the maintenance of the energy of the deliverer. Fatores de sucesso no desenvolvimento de novos produtos em pequenas empresas: um estudo de caso em um fabricante de equipamentos para gás natural veicular

This study presents itself as a contribution to the solidification of the Natural Gas industry, within the scope of the development of new products. The goal of this paper is to analyze the factors that lead to the success of new products through the evaluation of the activities done during the process of development of these products in the Natural Gas sector. To achieve this goal a case study was done in a small company of this segment. At first, as a basis for the study, a bibliographical research was done with books, theses, dissertations, monographies, publications in national and international periodicals, congress annals and publications in the internet related to the subject. Afterwards, a case study was done, aiming at the acquisition of further knowledge about the real process of development of products in a small company of the Natural Gas sector, allowing for the performance of the evaluation. The case study was done at Gas Project and Systems do Brasil, a company that works with the development of electronic equipment to the conversion of car engines to natural gas, through direct observations and interviews with the person responsible for the development and management of products. Through the evaluation of the process it was observed that the activities related to it are done in an informal way and some activities are considered unnecessary for their success. The results also suggest an emphasis in the technological activities, something that was not observed in the activities related to the market. The instruments used in this evaluation prove to be efficient to evaluate the process of development of new products in other companies, including those of different areas. Taking into account the relevance of the studied theme to the strengthening of the Natural Gas industry, it is necessary to do further complementary studies
