In a borehole in the southern outskirts of the town of Göttingen, limnic sediments of several Pleistocene warm periods occur intercalated with coarse solifluction debris and gravel of the river Leine. Pollen analysis of the limnic sediments in a borehole at Ottostrasse gave evidence of three warm periods of interglacial character, followed by three interstadial phases. The warm phases are separated one from another by stadial phases with, at least in one case, indications of periglacial solifluction. This sequence belongs to the Brunhes magnetic epoch. The pollen data allow to exclude an Eemian or Holsteinian age of the warm period sediments. Thus a Cromerian age is assumed, though the exact position of the newly described warm periods within the ''Cromerian'' remains uncertain. A section in a borehole at Akazienweg is of Holsteinian age.

The importance of pollen analytical data for the reconstruction of the natural conditions and their changes caused by human impact in prehistorical and historical times is beyond all doubt. Pollen analysis can, however, be hampered by poor pollen preservation and low pollen concentrations. As an example pollen assemblages from excavation areas near Pompeii (see doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.777531) and from the Old Botanical Garden of the University of Göttingen are discussed. A pollen diagram (see doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.820590) from the site Höllerer See in Austria (N of the city of Salzburg) demonstrates the intensive agricultural influence on the vegetation of the area during Roman and Medieval times. Human influence was much weaker during the Iron and the Bronze ages. There is no indication of human impact on the vegetation during the Migration period.

This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map entitled: Goettinga, urbs munitissima et splendida electoratus Brunsvico-Luneburgici Academia Georgia Augusta inclyta, accurate aere repraesentata à Matth. Seuttero, Geogr. Caesar, Aug. Vind. It was published by M. Seutter, ca. 1740. Scale [ca. 1:3,500]. Covers Göttingen, Germany. Map in German and Latin. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the Deutsches Hauptdreiecksnetz (DHDN) 3-degree Gauss-Kruger Zone 3 coordinate system. All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, index maps, legends, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as roads, drainage, built-up areas and selected buildings, fortifications, ground cover, and more. Includes indexes, illustrations, and view. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps from the Harvard Map Collection. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features. The selection represents a range of originators, ground condition dates, scales, and map purposes.

Presentation of the main findings of the first ESIL IEL IG Conference in Göttingen in March 2014. The conference provided a thorough overview over all of the current legal issues relating to preferentialism. Particularly the discussions on the role of academia in solving these new challenges in global trade regulation were perceived as fruitful and inspiring.
