The Distributed Network Protocol v3.0 (DNP3) is one of the most widely used protocols to control national infrastructure. The move from point-to-point serial connections to Ethernet-based network architectures, allowing for large and complex critical infrastructure networks. However, networks and con- figurations change, thus auditing tools are needed to aid in critical infrastructure network discovery. In this paper we present a series of intrusive techniques used for reconnaissance on DNP3 critical infrastructure. Our algorithms will discover DNP3 outstation slaves along with their DNP3 addresses, their corresponding master, and class object configurations. To validate our presented DNP3 reconnaissance algorithms and demonstrate it’s practicality, we present an implementation of a software tool using a DNP3 plug-in for Scapy. Our implementation validates the utility of our DNP3 reconnaissance technique. Our presented techniques will be useful for penetration testing, vulnerability assessments and DNP3 network discovery.

Bluetooth is a short-range radio technology operating in the unlicensed industrial-scientific-medical (ISM) band at 2.45 GHz. A piconet is basically a collection of slaves controlled by a master. A scatternet, on the other hand, is established by linking several piconets together in an ad hoc fashion to yield a global wireless ad hoc network. This paper proposes a scheduling policy that aims to achieve increased system throughput and reduced packet delays while providing reasonably good fairness among all traffic flows in bluetooth piconets and scatternets. We propose a novel algorithm for scheduling slots to slaves for both piconets and scatternets using multi-layered parameterized policies. Our scheduling scheme works with real data and obtains an optimal feedback policy within prescribed parameterized classes of these by using an efficient two-timescale simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA) algorithm. We show the convergence of our algorithm to an optimal multi-layered policy. We also propose novel polling schemes for intra- and inter-piconet scheduling that are seen to perform well. We present an extensive set of simulation results and performance comparisons with existing scheduling algorithms. Our results indicate that our proposed scheduling algorithm performs better overall on a wide range of experiments over the existing algorithms for both piconets (Das et al. in INFOCOM, pp. 591–600, 2001; Lapeyrie and Turletti in INFOCOM conference proceedings, San Francisco, US, 2003; Shreedhar and Varghese in SIGCOMM, pp. 231–242, 1995) and scatternets (Har-Shai et al. in OPNETWORK, 2002; Saha and Matsumot in AICT/ICIW, 2006; Tan and Guttag in The 27th annual IEEE conference on local computer networks(LCN). Tampa, 2002). Our studies also confirm that our proposed scheme achieves a high throughput and low packet delays with reasonable fairness among all the connections.

Bluetooth is an emerging standard in short range, low cost and low power wireless networks. MAC is a generic polling based protocol, where a central Bluetooth unit (master) determines channel access to all other nodes (slaves) in the network (piconet). An important problem in Bluetooth is the design of efficient scheduling protocols. This paper proposes a polling policy that aims to achieve increased system throughput and reduced packet delays while providing reasonably good fairness among all traffic flows in a Bluetooth Piconet. We present an extensive set of simulation results and performance comparisons with two important existing algorithms. Our results indicate that our proposed scheduling algorithm outperforms the Round Robin scheduling algorithm by more than 40% in all cases tried. Our study also confirms that our proposed policy achieves higher throughput and lower packet delays with reasonable fairness among all the connections.

A method for the delipidation of egg yolk plasma using phospholipase-C, n-heptane, and 1-butanol has been described. An aggregating protein fraction and a soluble protein fraction were separated by the action of phospholipase-C. The aggregating protein fraction freed of most of the lipids by treatment with n-heptane and 1-butanol was shown to be the apolipoproteins of yolk plasma, whereas the soluble proteins were identified as the livetins. Carbohydrate and the N-terminal amino acid analysis of these protein fractions are reported. A comparison of these protein fractions with the corresponding fractions obtained by formic acid delipidation of yolk plasma has been made. The gelation of yolk plasma by the action of phospholipase-C has been interpreted as an aggregation of lipoproteins caused by ionic interactions. The role of lecithin in maintaining the structural integrity of lipoproteins has been discussed.

Incubation of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPD) with sodium nitroprusside (SNP) decreased its activity in concentration- and time-dependent fashion in the presence of a thiol compounds, with DTT being more effective than GSH. Both forward and backward reactions were effected. Coinciding with this, HgCl2-sensitive labelling of the protein by [32P]NAD+ also increased, indicating the stimulation of ADP-ribosylation. Treatment with SNP of GAPD samples from rabbit muscle, sheep brain and yeast inactivated the dehydrogenase activity of the three, but only the mammalian proteins showed ADP-ribosylation activity. The SNP-modified protein of rabbit muscle GAPD, freed from the reagent by Sephadex filtration showed a concentration-dependent restoration of the dehydrogenase activity on preincubation with DTT and GSH. Such thiol-treated preparations also gave increased ADP-ribosylation activity with DTT, and to a lesser extent with GSH. The SNP-modified protein was unable to catalyze this activity with the native yeast enzyme and native and heat-inactivated muscle enzyme. It was possible to generate the ADP-ribosylation activity in muscle GAPD, by an NO-independent mechanism, on dialysis in Tris buffer under aerobic conditions , and on incubating with NADPH, but not NADH, in muscle and brain, but not yeast, enzymes. The results suggest that the inverse relationship of the dehydrogenase and ADP-ribosylation activities is coincidental but not correlated

We combine multiple scattering and renormalization group methods to calculate the leading order dimensionless virial coefficient k(s) for the friction coefficient of dilute polymer solutions under conditions where the osmotic second virial coefficient vanishes (i.e., at the theta point T-theta). Our calculations are formulated in terms of coupled kinetic equations for the polymer and solvent, in which the polymers are modeled as continuous chains whose configurations evolve under the action of random forces in, the velocity field of the solvent. To lowest order in epsilon=4-d, we find that k(s) = 1.06. This result compares satisfactorily with existing experimental estimates of k(s), which are in the range 0.7-0.8. It is also in good agreement with other theoretical results on chains and suspensions at T-theta. Our calculated k(s) is also found to be identical to the leading order virial coefficient of the tracer friction coefficient at the theta point. We discuss possible reasons for the difficulties encountered when attempting to evaluate k(s) by extrapolating prior renormalization group calculations from semidilute concentrations to the infinitely dilute limit. Abstract: The idea of a “paradise in politics” is an answer to the cosmogonic- anthropogonic problem that, through their bodies, the life of human beings has been shaped politically from the very beginning: all creation is a creation of bodies and bodies are power. All creation, furthermore, means separation, it emerges through a multiplicity of things and beings only. The conventional solution for the problem, in the realm of human beings, consists in forming societies out of a multiplicity of indivuals that remains as such. The solution of a “paradise in politics”, however, envisions a “healing” of creation through a bodily transmutation by which a world of bodies emerges that is freed from the problem of bodies: separation, power. The article discusses the negative cosmology with which all tales on a paradise in politics start. It shows the essential role of phantasy in the constitution of these tales, and elucidates the principal structural elements through which visions of a paradise in politics are built. A special attention is given to the parallelism between these visions and known religious thought, as in the case of the concepts of apokatastasis or perichoresis, for instance. Methodically, the article achieves a demonstration of its subject by an extensive presentation and analysis of two case studies: Rousseau’s vision of a “terrestrial paradise” and the attempt at “bodily redemption” put on the stage in 1968-69 by the “Living Theatre” Group with its performance “Paradise Now”.

A general review of stochastic processes is given in the introduction; definitions, properties and a rough classification are presented together with the position and scope of the author's work as it fits into the general scheme.

The first section presents a brief summary of the pertinent analytical properties of continuous stochastic processes and their probability-theoretic foundations which are used in the sequel.

The remaining two sections (II and III), comprising the body of the work, are the author's contribution to the theory. It turns out that a very inclusive class of continuous stochastic processes are characterized by a fundamental partial differential equation and its adjoint (the Fokker-Planck equations). The coefficients appearing in those equations assimilate, in a most concise way, all the salient properties of the process, freed from boundary value considerations. The writer’s work consists in characterizing the processes through these coefficients without recourse to solving the partial differential equations.

First, a class of coefficients leading to a unique, continuous process is presented, and several facts are proven to show why this class is restricted. Then, in terms of the coefficients, the unconditional statistics are deduced, these being the mean, variance and covariance. The most general class of coefficients leading to the Gaussian distribution is deduced, and a complete characterization of these processes is presented. By specializing the coefficients, all the known stochastic processes may be readily studied, and some examples of these are presented; viz. the Einstein process, Bachelier process, Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, etc. The calculations are effectively reduced down to ordinary first order differential equations, and in addition to giving a comprehensive characterization, the derivations are materially simplified over the solution to the original partial differential equations.

In the last section the properties of the integral process are presented. After an expository section on the definition, meaning, and importance of the integral process, a particular example is carried through starting from basic definition. This illustrates the fundamental properties, and an inherent paradox. Next the basic coefficients of the integral process are studied in terms of the original coefficients, and the integral process is uniquely characterized. It is shown that the integral process, with a slight modification, is a continuous Markoff process.

The elementary statistics of the integral process are deduced: means, variances, and covariances, in terms of the original coefficients. It is shown that an integral process is never temporally homogeneous in a non-degenerate process.

Finally, in terms of the original class of admissible coefficients, the statistics of the integral process are explicitly presented, and the integral process of all known continuous processes are specified.
