The indigo dye is extensively used by textile industries and is considered a recalcitrant substance, which causes environmental concern. Chemical products used on textile processing, which affect the environment through effluents, can be voluminous, colored and varied. Vat textile dyes, like indigo, are often used and dye mainly cellulosic fibers of cotton. Decolorization of this dye in liquid medium was tested with ligninolytic basidiomycete fungi from Brazil. Decolorization started in a few hours and after 4 days the removal of dye by Phellinus gilvus culture was in 100%, by Pleurotus sajor-caju 94%, by Pycnoporus sanguineus 91% and by Phanerochaete chrysosporium 75%. No color decrease was observed in a sterile control. Thin layer chromatography of fungi culture extracts revealed only one unknown metabolite of Rf = 0.60, as a result of dye degradation. The role of environmental concern is important due to the disorganized land occupation and intense exploitation of natural resources which lead to the degradation and exhaustion of the environment. Remonte sensing techniques allow identifying, recognizing and mapping areas modifiers besides estimating the extension of alterations made by man. Thus, the objective of this study was to map land use and occupation in order to evaluate the development of the Gloria Farm Stream watershed in Taquaritinga, SP, Brazil, from 1983 to 2000. The drainage network and agricultural and natural vegetation areas were identified by stereoscopic analyses of 2000 aerial photographs and by data analyses of the field and cartographic documents. The results verified that sugarcane became predominat in 2000 and it is distributed in relatively large areas with detriment to citrus orchards and other crops. The presence of dams, which is not noted in 1983 data, and the increase of forest and natural vegetal fragment areas in the analyzed period was observed. Recovered areas dur to reforestation with native species were identified along the streams and springs of Jabuticabal Mountain Range.

Considering the current context of environmental concern, the main purpose of this research was to develop and apply indicators to evaluate the environmental risk for airports. As a result, 19 indicators related to storage and handling dangerous substances were created. These indicators represent five conditions varying from the worst (level 1) to the ideal condition (level 5). The indicators were applied, as a study of case, at Viracopos International Airport, Campinas (SP). The results showed a medium performance of 2.3, using a scale raging from 1.0 to 5.0, characterized as 'critical'. Then, the indicators were analyzed to determine the major weaknesses related to the environmental management at Viracopos International Airport, as well as to identify good practices and solutions. Among the suggested management strategies, we highlight the suitability of areas for storage of dangerous substances. In general, it can be inferred that the indicators proposed in this paper to evaluate the performance in the management of environmental risks at the Viracopos International Airport and propose actions to prevent, monitor, correct, and mitigate the environmental impacts of its operations.

Taking into account the current context about environmental concern, the main purposes of this research were to develop and apply indicators in order to evaluate waste residues management in airports. As a result, 17 indicators related to generation, storage, transportation, collection, and solid waste disposal were created. These were applied in Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas, São Paulo State, Brazil. The results obtained in the study had a 2.9 performance, in a scale from one to five, characterized as regular. Posteriorly, the main weaknesses in waste residues management were analyzed in such Airport, as well as good practices and solutions were identifed. The highlighted management strategies suggested were the adjustment of areas for waste storage, recycling, and residues composting.

Recently, the environmental concern has grown due to the higher awareness about the availability and the importance of natural resources for survival on the Earth. So, laws and regulations were implemented aiming the environmental preservation. It has being developed new systems, technologies and techniques in order to minimize wastage of resources and minimize waste generation that may cause environmental impacts, in order to abide by the laws and regulations. These techniques and systems have been developed mostly for the industrial sector, because it’s one of the most responsible for the waste generation and impacts. One of the most employed systems is the environmental management, performed during the environmental diagnosis of the area/activity. So, this study aimed the environmental assessment and the establishment of proposals for the mitigation of the most significant environmental impacts generated in five industries of the Antonio Crepaldi industrial district – Presidente Prudente, in order to contribute to environmental issues and provide greater efficiency in the productive process of these industries...
