Use of a condom in sex relations by HIV carriers

The frequency with which condoms are used in sex relations by subjects with HIV was determined by interviewing 132 individuals, 82 men and 50 women, most of them from São Paulo state and some from other regions of the country, all of them seen at an outpatient clinic of the School of Medicine in Botucatu. The women were younger, were of lower educational level and had poorer professional qualification than men. Also, a greater proportion of women were widowed, separated or divorced. We observed that 43.9% of men and 72% of women had been contaminated by the sexual route, but only 41.2% of the men and 31.8% of the women reported the use of a condom after the diagnosis of infection, with most men and women preferring sexual abstinence. The results enable the conclusion that there is still a need to continue to provide information about the use of condoms and to guarantee their free-of-charge distribution due to the low levels of education and professional qualification of the individuals studied. The data also suggest that campaigns for the dissemination of preventive measures should consider the social and cultural differences of infected women.

Escrita no feminino - Ana de Castro Osório : uma lição da história e às mulheres portuguesas

Ana de Castro Osório, ao escrever Uma Lição da História (1909) traduz os saber, sentir e fazer " literários transmitindo simultaneamente ideário respeitador da emancipação das mulheres atendendo ao empenhamento da consciência nacional, a qual, segundo republicanistas como Ana de Castro Osório deveria sobe modo acontecer na mulher portuguesa nascida aristocrata ou burguesa. Ao continuar a "lição" observada no Conto Maravilhoso (Marchen), segundo os Irmãos Grimm, Ana de Castro Osório pratica-a , adap tando à sua "História da Carochinha" a Ideologia republicana desenvolvida na sua obra intitulada "Ás Mulheres Portuguesas (1905), a qual comunga bem das ideias de republicanos e feministas como Henriques Nogueira, Antero de Quental, Carolina Michaelis de Vasconcelos, Teófilo de Braga

Viajar no Feminino – As palavras das Imagens: Viagem de Egéria à Terra Santa, séc. IV

Egéria was a 4th century A.D. nun who undertook a long journey from her homeland, the roman province of Gallaecia, to the Near East. Her itinerary, which described the segment between Mount Sinai and Constantinople, revealed the enthusiasm which graced her original decision to embark on the journey, and the determination with which she faced every stage. She kept a Diary throughout her journey. Probably, it constitutes one of the first known Travel Diaries. Her reports describe her observations and the splendor of the Christian cult sites. Her text is affectionately dedicated to her fellow nuns that remained in the West of the Empire, keeping their uniting bond strong. Our study aims to search all references to visited sites in Egéria’s text, as the information contained therein serves as a precious descriptor of their locations, spatial organization and environment. Egéria visits unique, historical sites, which will influence her writing style. She is, in fact, a pilgrim to a recently created historical site, The Holy Land. Egéria lived during a fundamental historical and artistic Framework, that of the architectural forms of expression of the First Christianity. Her words can be translated into images, as a partitions script, a visualization of lights and ambiences, and a testimonial of places that no longer exist. We hope to see, in Egéria’s written work, the images she observed, for her words are images. We expect a complementary approach among the research methods given by Archeology, composed by Architecture and explained by the sensible text from Egéria’s journey - a religious and artistic journey written from a powerful feminine point of view.

Alcoolismo feminino: um estudo de suas peculiaridades. Resultados preliminares

OBJETIVO: Apresentar os resultados parciais de um estudo qualitativo realizado com mulheres alcoolistas, discutir as peculiaridades do alcoolismo feminino e a importância do seu significado nos serviços especializados. MÉTODOS: Foram realizadas entrevistas semi-estruturadas com nove mulheres que se tratavam no serviço de alcoolismo de uma instituição pública. RESULTADOS: Observou-se comportamento particular de beber, violência doméstica e maior adesão ao tratamento quando eram participantes de um grupo composto somente por mulheres. CONCLUSÃO: O estudo apontou a relevância de tentar compreender o alcoolismo feminino com todas as suas peculiaridades e a possível relação dessa compreensão com os tratamentos oferecidos.
